KAS NEO Access Control Reader GEN2

The KAS NEO Access Control Reader GEN2 is a multi-format access control reader designed for guest rooms, common doors and managed access environments requiring flexible credential support and broader system compatibility.

This reader supports RFID, Fob Card, PIN code and Bluetooth entry, making it suitable for accommodation, apartment and commercial access control applications where different credential types may be required.

It is designed to operate across three different management pathways - Stand Alone, KAS Access and Lock-S - allowing the same reader platform to be deployed in simpler local systems or broader managed access networks.

FAQ icon Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can the NEO Access Control Reader GEN2 work as a standalone reader?
Yes. KAS states that the shared NEO / ACR platform supports local management functions, including local PIN and RFID programming, without requiring cloud setup for basic operation.
  • What happens after too many wrong PIN attempts?
The keypad locks out for 1 minute after 3 incorrect PIN attempts. KAS states this feature cannot be disabled.
  • Can this reader be used with an electric strike or mag lock?
Yes, but wiring method matters. KAS says the relay can be used as a dry contact or to switch a low-powered electric strike. Higher-powered strikes or electromagnetic locks should be wired with a separate figure 8 cable and appropriate power arrangement rather than relying on the reader alone.
  • Does the reader need a power supply included in the box?
No. KAS states that the power supply is not supplied with the HAR300 series reader and must be provided separately.
  • Can the reader be installed outdoors?
Yes. KAS states the keypad ACR is fully waterproof and suitable for direct outdoor rain exposure when installed correctly.
  • What should I do if the reader will not pair to the app?
KAS’s first troubleshooting step is to reset the device using the management-code reset command, then try pairing again. If that fails, KAS also documents a wireless-node reset procedure inside the unit.

Additional Information icon Additional Information

  • Shared NEO Programming Logic:
KAS notes that many local programming codes are shared between the NEO lock and the ACR, apart from ACR-specific customisation functions. That is useful for sites deploying both readers and locks within the same platform family.
  • Single and Dual Opening Modes:
The reader supports both single-opening and dual-opening logic. Dual mode requires matching RFID and PIN credentials for the same user ID, which can be useful where higher access assurance is required.
  • Free Passage Behaviour:
Free passage can be enabled locally after a valid opening action by holding the # key. KAS also notes that entering a PIN while free passage is active does not cancel it, but presenting a valid card can disable it.
  • Local User Capacity:
Shared local-management rules in KAS documentation show support for 100 PIN users and 100 RFID users, with user IDs running from 00 to 99. This is relevant where the reader is being used in local-management mode rather than only through higher-level software.
  • Relay and Power Limits Matter:
The HAR300 series reader is not a substitute for proper strike or lock power design. KAS lists dry-contact relay outputs and warns that high-powered locking hardware should be wired separately rather than treated as a simple reader-only hookup.
  • Cabling Guidance:
KAS states Cat-5 or Cat-6 cable is suitable for power, request-to-exit and relay wiring in lower-power applications, with a stated maximum 50 m run between the power supply and ACR reader unit.
  • Gateway Dependence for Online Features:
KAS states the HAR300 can receive online control when an activated gateway is in close proximity. That means remote and internet-based features depend on gateway visibility and signal path, not just the reader hardware itself.
  • Maintenance Detail:
KAS specifically advises removing the clear protective keypad film once the unit is fully commissioned. Leaving it on long-term can make later removal difficult.
