Frequently Asked Questions
- When is the extended latch required?
The extended latch is used when the gate-to-post gap is larger than normal or when fitting BORG gate locks to wider gate frames. - Is this latch suitable for outdoor installations?
Yes. It is weather resistant and intended for external gate applications. - Does this latch replace the standard latch directly?
Yes. It is a direct mechanical replacement for the standard BORG gate latch.
Additional Information
- This extended latch is commonly specified where gate movement or hinge wear increases the effective latch gap over time.
- Checking gate alignment before selecting latch length can prevent premature wear and unreliable locking.
- On commercial or rural gates, installers often default to the extended latch to allow for future gate movement.

How a Warranty Claim Works
Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor for Borg Locks. If the returned item is found by LSC to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced. Products must be returned to the LSC office with freight charges prepaid within the warranty period. A detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
Contact Terry’s Locksmiths first — we will assess the issue and manage the warranty process with LSC on your behalf. You do not need to contact LSC or Borg Locks UK directly.
Australian Consumer Law
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
