KAS Tubular Latch - 127mm Backset, Fire Rated
The KAS NTL127 Tubular Latch is a 127mm backset tubular latch designed for use with KAS NEO, ACR, and PLATINUM smart lock systems in commercial and high-security door applications. It is fire rated to Australian Standards.
The NTL127 shares the same external dimensions and engineering as the NTL060 (60mm backset) and NTL070 (70mm backset) latches - the only difference between models is the backset measurement. All three latches feature the same latch head shape, tube flexibility design, throw and retraction mechanics, turning angle, and strike plate dimensions.
The latch tube incorporates a flexible neck design that releases bending stress caused by minor drilling errors during installation, reducing the risk of binding or premature wear in real-world site conditions.
Tested and rated to Australian Standards. Fire compliance is system-based and is limited by the Fire Resistance Level of the complete doorset assembly.
Key Features
- 127mm backset - designed for doors requiring a longer backset measurement.
- Fire rated to Australian Standards when installed as part of a compliant doorset assembly.
- Security pin incorporated into the latch head to resist unauthorised retraction.
- Flexible tube neck design absorbs bending stress from minor drilling misalignment, reducing binding and extending service life.
- Latch head does not protrude when the handle is in the fully rotated position - smooth, flush operation.
- 42-degree turning angle required for full latch retraction.
- 10-12mm throw with full retraction to 0mm on handle operation.
- Identical external dimensions to NTL060 and NTL070 - only the backset distance differs between models.
- Compatible with KAS NEO, ACR, and PLATINUM smart lock systems.
KAS Tubular Latch - Model Range
All three models share identical external dimensions, latch head shape, tube flexibility, throw/retraction, and turning angle. The backset measurement is the only mechanical difference between models. Bold row indicates this product.

Dimensions
All dimensions shown apply equally to NTL060, NTL070, and NTL127. Only the backset measurement (60mm / 70mm / 127mm) differs between models.

Suitable Uses
- Doors requiring a 127mm backset measurement
- Commercial and high-traffic doors requiring fire-rated latch hardware
- Doors installed with KAS NEO, ACR, or PLATINUM smart lock systems
- Applications requiring a security pin to resist unauthorised latch retraction
- Sites where drilling tolerance may be a consideration - tube flexibility reduces binding risk
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the NTL060, NTL070, and NTL127?
The only mechanical difference is the backset measurement - 60mm, 70mm, and 127mm respectively. All other dimensions, the latch head shape, tube flexibility design, throw, retraction, turning angle, fire rating, and security pin are identical across all three models. Select the correct backset to match the door hardware being used. - What does the security pin do?
The security pin is a 3-4mm pin incorporated into the latch head that prevents the latch from being retracted by external manipulation. It releases only when the handle is operated correctly, providing an additional layer of resistance against unauthorised entry. - What is the tube flexibility feature and why does it matter?
The latch tube includes a flexible neck section that allows a small degree of rotation. This absorbs bending stress caused by minor misalignment between the door bore and the lock spindle - a common result of drilling tolerance variation on site. Without this flexibility, misalignment causes stress concentration at the neck, leading to binding or component fatigue over time. - Is the fire rating applicable to all installations?
No. Fire compliance is system-based. The latch is rated to Australian Standards, but fire performance is only achieved when the complete doorset assembly - including the door, frame, and all installed hardware - meets the required Fire Resistance Level. Confirm full compliance with your fire door supplier or certifier. - What handle turning angle is required to fully retract the latch?
42 degrees of handle rotation is required for full latch retraction. At full retraction, the latch head does not protrude from the faceplate at all (0.00mm). When the handle is released, the latch returns to the full throw position of 10-12mm.
Additional Information
- Backset Selection:
The 127mm backset is the longest of the three KAS tubular latch options and is specified where the door lock handle or furniture is positioned further from the door edge than standard. Confirm the required backset before ordering - the backset cannot be adjusted after manufacture. - Fire Door Installation:
When installed on a fire-rated doorset, all hardware including the latch must be part of an assessed and compliant system. Substituting non-assessed components may void the fire rating of the complete doorset. Confirm suitability with your fire door supplier prior to installation. - Drilling Tolerance and Alignment:
The flexible tube neck is designed to accommodate realistic site drilling outcomes. However, significant misalignment (as illustrated in the tube flexibility diagram) will still cause high stress and should be avoided. The flexibility is a stress-relief feature, not a correction for poor installation practice. - Strike Plate Compatibility:
The supplied strike plate dimensions are specific to this latch range. Confirm strike plate compatibility with the door frame and any existing hardware before installation. The strike plate aperture must align accurately with the latch head throw position. - System Component:
The NTL127 is a system component designed for use with KAS smart lock hardware. It is not a standalone residential latch and should be specified and installed as part of a complete KAS access control installation.
