Yale Access DoorSense Door Position Sensor Kit for Yale Assure Smart Locks - Surface and Flush Mount
The Yale Access DoorSense kit (025-00174) is the replacement door position sensor for Yale Assure series smart locks fitted with a Yale Home Module. It is the small white part that mounts on the door frame, and it is what allows the lock to know whether the door is actually closed rather than merely locked.
One kit covers both installation methods. A surface-mount housing tapes and screws onto the face of the frame in a few minutes with nothing more than a screwdriver, and a flush-mount cap sits almost invisibly inside a drilled hole for a cleaner finish and a more robust reading. Mounting screws and double-sided adhesive tape are supplied.
This is a spare and replacement part. It is not a lock, it is not the Yale Home Module, and it does nothing on its own. The host lock must already have a Yale Home Module fitted, because that module contains the sensing electronics this magnet is read by.
Usually ships in 1 business day
Key Features
- Genuine Yale replacement DoorSense door position sensor for Assure series smart locks
- Both mounting formats supplied in one kit - surface mount for a no-drill install, flush mount for a near-invisible finish
- Reports true door state to the Yale Home app, so auto-lock cannot throw the bolt at an open door
- Enables door-ajar alerts and remote "is the front door closed" checks when the lock is paired with a Connect Plus Hub 2
- Completely passive - no batteries, no wiring and no electronics in the frame-mounted part
- Mounting screws and double-sided adhesive tape included
- Surface mount can be relocated to a perpendicular wall where the frame is not flat
How DoorSense Works
Yale sells this part as a "sensor", and that word does more harm than good once you have one in your hand. The part that mounts on the door frame is a small magnet held inside a plastic housing. It contains no electronics at all. The sensing is done by the Yale Home Module sitting inside the lock on the door.
When the door is shut, the magnet is held close to the module and the lock reports the door as closed. Swing the door open and the magnet travels away with the frame, the field the module reads collapses, and the lock reports the door as open. That state is what the Yale Home app displays, what triggers door-ajar alerts, and what auto-lock checks before it fires.
A conventional door contact is a two-part reed switch and magnet, both mounted on the opening, wired back to a panel. DoorSense is not that. There is one part on the frame and the reading is taken by the lock itself, which is why DoorSense needs a Yale Home Module and a standard alarm contact will not substitute for it.
Surface Mount and Flush Mount
Both formats are in the box and both do exactly the same job. The choice is between speed and reversibility on one hand, and appearance and reliability on the other.
What's in the Box
- Surface mount DoorSense housing and cover
- Flush mount cap
- Surface mount screws
- Double-sided adhesive mounting tape
Yale's installation procedure for flush mounting starts by pushing the magnet carrier out through the centre hole of the housing and pressing it onto the adhesive side of the flush cap, so the two shapes interlock. Work on the assumption that you are choosing one format and building it, not fitting two sensors.
Suitable Uses
- Replacing a DoorSense that has been lost, damaged, painted over or left behind at a previous address
- Restoring door position sensing to an Assure lock whose original DoorSense went missing during a renovation or repaint
- Changing an existing installation from surface mount to flush mount for a tidier result
- Second and third doors in a household already running the Yale Home app
- Rentals and short-stay properties, where auto-lock firing on an open door is a real and recurring problem
Yale Unity locks, the Yale Unity Slim and the Yale Libi range. The Unity locks handle door position differently and the Libi Essential Series is deliberately offline with no app and no sensing of any kind. This part is also useless on an Assure lock carrying a Yale Zigbee Network Module instead of a Yale Home Module, because that module does not support DoorSense.

Lock Compatibility
DoorSense is a Yale Home Module feature. The magnet is only useful on an Assure series lock that has a Yale Home Module fitted in its module bay.

Installation and Calibration
Surface mount. Choose a spot within 38mm of the edge of the door frame, level with the Yale Home Module in the lock. Peel one side of the mounting tape and press it to the back of the housing, aligning the edges and screw holes, then peel the other side and press the housing onto the frame with the pill shape running vertically. Hand tighten the supplied screws, fit the cover, then calibrate.
Flush mount. Push the magnet carrier out through the centre hole of the housing with a small blunt object, peel the blue backing from the cap and press the cap onto the notched side of the carrier so the shapes interlock. Mark a point between 38mm and 89mm above the top edge of the deadbolt strike plate, centred on the frame, and aligned with the module. Tape the drill bit to mark a 12.7mm depth, drill a straight 15.9mm hole, and press the assembly in. If it is tight, protect the frame with scrap timber and tap it home.
Calibrate. In the Yale Home app, open Lock Settings, choose Calibrate Lock, then run Lock and DoorSense. Open and close the door afterwards and check the state shown in the app is correct.
On a surface mount install, tape the housing in place and calibrate before you drive the screws. If the readings are wrong you can peel it off and try a different spot rather than leaving two redundant holes in a painted frame. Yale recommends the same order. More on getting alignment right in Chapter 12 of the Buyer's Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The magnet is passive and the reading is taken by the Yale Home Module inside the lock. If your Assure lock has no module fitted, this kit will do nothing until you add a Yale Home Module.
Surface mount if you want it done in ten minutes, if the install might need to move, or if you are renting. Flush mount if you want it barely visible and you are happy to drill a 15.9mm hole in the frame. Yale rates the flush mount as the more robust of the two.
Yes. The surface mount housing has double-sided tape as well as screw holes, and plenty of installs run on tape alone. Tape it, calibrate, live with it for a week, then decide whether to add the screws.
No. DoorSense belongs to the Yale Home Module, and the two modules share one bay in the lock. Fit the Zigbee Network Module and you give up DoorSense, Apple HomeKit and the Yale Home app along with it.
Run the calibration again first, from Lock Settings, Calibrate Lock, Lock and DoorSense. If it still reads wrong, the magnet is too far from the module. Move the housing closer to the lock and recalibrate. Drift over months is normal on a timber frame that moves with the seasons and is fixed by another calibration.
Additional Information
- The naming trips people up. Yale calls both parts of the kit a "sensor", but neither contains any electronics. Buyers who expect a battery, a pairing step or an LED are looking for something this part does not have.
- Auto-lock is the real reason this matters. Without door position sensing, auto-lock counts down and fires whether or not the door is shut, which sends the bolt into the strike plate edge or straight past the jamb. That is where bent bolts and chewed strike plates come from.
- An awkward frame is not the end of it. Where the frame is not flat, or a wall runs perpendicular to the door right beside it, the surface mount can go on that wall instead, still using the lock module as the height reference.
- Painters lose these. A large share of replacement sales are frames that have been repainted with the housing removed and never refitted, or flush caps that have been filled over. Worth noting before a repaint.
- Coastal and exposed doors. There is no published weather rating for this part, so treat it as interior. On an exposed Gold Coast entry, that is worth reading alongside the coastal installation notes in our honest Yale assessment.

Yale DoorSense - FAQ, Fitting and Owner's Guide
Everything we get asked about DoorSense, from what the part actually is through to why the app keeps insisting the door is open. For wider smart lock questions see Chapter 13, the Smart Lock FAQ, or start at the Ultimate Smart Lock Buyer's Guide.
What DoorSense Actually Is
DoorSense is Yale's name for door position sensing. It is what lets the lock tell the difference between "the bolt is thrown" and "the door is actually shut". The part you buy here is the piece that mounts on the door frame. The electronics that read it sit inside the lock, in the Yale Home Module.
It is a magnet in a plastic housing, despite the catalogue calling it a sensor. Pull one apart and there is a small magnet carrier inside and nothing else. That is why it needs no battery, never needs pairing, and cannot fail electrically.
Three things. Auto-lock becomes safe to leave switched on, because the lock will not throw the bolt at an open door. The Yale Home app shows a genuine open or closed state rather than only a locked or unlocked state. And with a Connect Plus Hub 2 you get door-ajar alerts and can ask a voice assistant whether the front door is closed.
Not directly. It does not make the door harder to force. What it does is stop the lock reporting a false sense of security, and stop auto-lock damaging itself against an open door. Treat it as a reliability and mechanical protection part rather than a security upgrade.
Will It Work With My Lock
Yale Assure series locks with a Yale Home Module fitted. In the Australian range that means the Assure Keyed Deadbolt and the Assure SL Deadbolt, in either finish. Yale also lists YRD426 and YRD446, which are not stocked here.
Check with us first. The Assure Keyed Lever Latch ships with a Yale Home Module, which suggests DoorSense should work, but the lever model does not appear on Yale's published module compatibility list. We would rather you asked than guessed on this one.
No. The Unity Entrance and Unity Slim are a different platform entirely, with Bluetooth and HomeKit built into the lock and no module bay. They handle door position their own way. The Unity Slim uses its own magnet housing assembly, which is the equivalent part for that range and is not interchangeable with this one.
No, and this is the single most useful thing to understand about the Assure module bay. There is one slot and two modules that compete for it. The Yale Home Module gives Yale Home, Apple HomeKit and DoorSense. The Zigbee Network Module hands the lock to a third-party hub and gives up all three. You cannot fit both.
No. A standard alarm contact is a reed switch and magnet pair wired to a panel, and the lock has no way to read it. DoorSense only works because the Yale Home Module inside the lock is looking for this specific magnet at a specific distance.
Fitting and Calibration
Within 38mm of the edge of the door frame, at the same height as the Yale Home Module in the lock, with the pill shape running vertically. The module height is the reference point, not the strike plate.
15.9mm diameter and 12.7mm deep, positioned between 38mm and 89mm above the top edge of the deadbolt strike plate and centred on the frame. Tape the drill bit to mark the depth, and keep the drill straight. Drill it crooked and the magnet ends up further from the module than it should be.
Push the magnet carrier out through the centre hole of the housing with something small and blunt. It can take a bit of force. Peel the blue backing off the flush cap to expose the adhesive, then press the cap onto the notched side of the carrier so the two shapes lock together. That assembly is what goes in the drilled hole.
In the Yale Home app, go to Lock Settings, then Calibrate Lock, then run Lock and DoorSense. Do it with the lock already installed and working. Afterwards, open and close the door and confirm the app is reporting the state correctly before you commit to any screws or filler.
Yes. Where the frame will not take a flat fixing, or a wall runs perpendicular to the door right beside it, mount the surface housing on that wall instead. Keep using the lock's module as the height guide. This is Yale's own documented fallback, not a workaround.
No. Tape it, calibrate, and check the readings first. Yale recommends deferring the screws for exactly this reason. Two spare holes in a painted frame are annoying and entirely avoidable.
Troubleshooting
The magnet is not close enough to the module. Recalibrate first. If that does not fix it, move the housing nearer the lock and calibrate again. On a flush mount that has been drilled too far from the lock, the honest answer is a second hole in the right place and a filled first one.
Timber frames move with humidity and season, and a door that has dropped slightly on its hinges changes the gap. Run a Door State Calibration again. If it drifts repeatedly, the underlying problem is usually door or hinge alignment rather than the magnet. See Chapter 12 on misalignment.
There is no battery. If DoorSense has stopped reporting, the problem is alignment, calibration, or the lock's own batteries, never this part running flat.
Yale publishes no weather rating for this part, so we treat it as interior. On a covered entry it is fine. On a west-facing door taking full sun and driving rain, expect the adhesive to give up first and use the screws or the flush mount.

What's in the Box - Yale Access DoorSense Kit
- Surface mount DoorSense housing and cover, the pill-shaped part that fixes to the face of the door frame
- Flush mount cap, the round part that sits in a drilled hole in the frame edge
- Magnet carrier, supplied inside the housing
- Surface mount screws
- Double-sided adhesive mounting tape
The kit supplies both mounting formats so you can pick the one that suits the door, not so you can fit two. Yale's flush mount procedure begins by removing the magnet carrier from the surface housing, which tells you the two share the magnet.
No Yale Home Module, no lock and no tools. This kit is the frame-mounted magnet only. If your Assure lock does not already have a Yale Home Module in it, you need one of those as well before DoorSense will do anything.
