Borg BL4409 MG Pro ECP Mechanical Digital Lock – Rim Fixed Slam Latch – Marine Grade Pro – Easicode Pro – Black
The Borg BL4409 MG Pro ECP is a fully mechanical marine grade digital lock designed for applications where the gate or door frame is too narrow or too thin for a conventional tubular mortice latch. Rather than boring through the door edge, the BL4409 uses a rim-fixed slam latch that mounts to the face of the door or gate, with the keypad outside and the slam latch body replacing the conventional inside handle. The slam latch auto-engages when the gate closes, and the external lever is clutched until the correct PIN is entered.
Two strike plates are supplied: a rim-fixed strike plate (standard, face-mounted) and a concealed fix rim strike plate (alternative, for inward-opening doors where a cleaner installation appearance is required). The lock suits gate and door thicknesses up to 85mm using the supplied spindle bar, which is cut to length on site. Marine Grade Pro construction with 316 stainless steel internal components and MG Pro black coating delivers 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray resistance. Easicode Pro (ECP) allows on-door code change without removing the lock.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
The BL4409 uses a rim-fixed slam latch in place of a conventional tubular mortice latch. It is surface-mounted to the face of the door – no boring through the door edge is required. There is no inside lever handle; the slam latch body on the inside of the gate incorporates a turn knob and a snib for holdback and deadlock operation. This makes the BL4409 the correct choice where the gate frame is too narrow, too thin, or otherwise unsuitable for a conventional mortice latch.
316 stainless steel internal components with MG Pro black marine external grade coating. Tested to 1,000 continuous hours of salt spray. Suitable for coastal, beachside, canal-front, and marine environments where standard finishes corrode prematurely.
Borg warrants corrosion resistance for 12 months from date of sale under specified conditions.
The PIN code can be changed while the lock is installed using the included code change key. No lock removal required. An optional code change disabling plug is included to prevent unauthorised code changes once set.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For heavy duty: consider the Lockwood DX, Borg 7701, or Carbine CDL7000 Series.
The BL4409 MG Pro ECP accepts one active PIN code at a time.
Key Features
- Rim-fixed slam latch – surface mounted to the face of the door, no mortice boring required.
- External clutching lever – free-turning until the correct code is entered, then retracts the slam latch.
- Inside slam latch knob allows manual retraction from inside at any time without entering a code.
- Holdback function – slide the snib on the slam latch body to hold the latch bolt withdrawn for free passage without entering the code.
- Deadlock function – the same snib can be engaged to deadlock the latch bolt, preventing gate operation even if the correct code is entered from outside.
- Both holdback and deadlock functions can be permanently deactivated using the supplied dome head screws if neither is required.
- Two strike plates supplied: rim-fixed (standard) and concealed fix rim strike (alternative, inward-opening doors).
- Easicode Pro (ECP) on-door/gate code change – no lock removal required.
- Optional code change disabling plug included.
- Marine Grade Pro (MG Pro) black external coating – 316 stainless steel internal components.
- 1,000 hour continuous salt spray tested.
- Fully mechanical – no batteries, no wiring, no power source.
- Over 4,000 user-defined code combinations; 14-button keypad, non-sequential entry.
- 40mm backset rim mount latch.
- Suitable for gate and door thicknesses up to 85mm – spindle bar cut to size on site.
- Reversible on site – the hand of the slam latch is changeable for left or right hand swing.
- Not available in back-to-back configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose the BL4409 over the BL4401?
The BL4401 uses a tubular mortice latch, which requires the door or gate to have sufficient material to bore through the edge. If the gate frame is too narrow, too thin, or is hollow section where a tubular latch won't work, the BL4409 is the correct alternative. The BL4409's rim-fixed slam latch mounts to the face of the gate, requiring only three small holes through the door rather than a mortice pocket. There is no inside lever handle on the BL4409 – the inside operation is via the turn knob on the slam latch body.
What is the holdback/deadlock function and how does it work?
The slam latch body has a snib on its back edge. Rotating the turn knob and sliding the snib upward (for right-hand installation) holds the latch bolt in the withdrawn position – this is the holdback. In the same snib position, the latch can also be set to deadlock: with the snib engaged, the latch bolt is locked out and cannot be retracted even by entering the correct code. This allows an authorised person inside the gate to prevent outside entry entirely. If neither function is required, the holdback/deadlock mechanism is permanently deactivated using the dome head screws and washers supplied in the box.
Which strike plate should I use?
Both are supplied in the box. The rim-fixed strike plate (standard) is face-mounted to the gate post frame and suits most installations. The concealed fix rim strike plate is an alternative for inward-opening doors where a cleaner finish is preferred – it requires 3 fixing holes rather than 2. Only one strike plate is fitted; the other is redundant depending on your gate configuration. Confirm which is appropriate before drilling.
How do I determine the correct spindle bar length?
The spindle bar is cut to length on site. The correct length is: gate/door thickness + 35mm. For example, for a 40mm thick door, cut the spindle to 75mm total. Always cut from the slam latch side, not the keypad side. The supplied bar suits thicknesses up to 85mm before cutting is required.
How do I change the PIN code?
With the gate in the open position, enter the current code. Insert the included Easicode Pro code change key into the hole in the * button and hold it fully pressed. Press C to clear the old code, enter your new code, then press the new code digits once more to confirm all are set. Release the key from the * button, then press C or rotate the lever to finalise. Test the new code at least five times before closing the gate. The code is non-sequential – if set to 1234, the keypad will open if entered in any order (4321, 2413, etc).
Additional Information
The BL4409 MG Pro ECP shares the same external keypad footprint as the BL2600 and BL2600 ECP series. This makes it a direct upgrade option for existing BL2600 installations without the need to fill or drill new holes through the door face. Confirm latch mounting hole positions before ordering as a replacement.
The slam latch is factory set for right-hand hung doors (door opens inward, hinges on right when viewed from the keypad side). For left-hand, or outward-opening configurations, the hand of the latch is changed on site by rotating the latch body. Confirm handing before installation. The handing guide is: Right hand = door opens inward, hinges on right (viewed from keypad side). Left hand = door opens inward, hinges on left. Right hand reverse = door opens outward, hinges on right. Left hand reverse = door opens outward, hinges on left.
Monthly: clean the keypad and lever surfaces with a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (GT85 or equivalent); remove excess with a soft cloth. Do not use oil-based lubricants. Annually: remove the lock and spray internally through the button holes; test all buttons and the lever. Refer to the Borg Servicing Guide PDF for full maintenance instructions.
The BL4409 auto-latches when the gate closes via the slam latch action, which aligns with the self-latching requirement of the Queensland Pool Safety Standard. However, the holdback and deadlock functions – if left engaged – would prevent the gate from self-latching. Ensure these functions are deactivated or managed appropriately for pool gate installations. Confirm compliance with a licensed pool safety inspector before installation.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
