Carbine Gate Guard for CDL7100 - Mounting Box - Black

The Carbine CGG-CDL7 is a purpose-built mounting box designed to allow Carbine CDL7 series digital locks to be installed on metal gates. It is constructed from powder-coated stainless steel and adjusts to suit gate post sizes from 40mm to 65mm, supporting both 60mm and 70mm backsets.

Fitting a digital lock directly to a metal gate presents two problems: the gate frame is rarely the right thickness to accept a standard mortice lock, and the internal side of the gate is exposed to reach-through attacks. The CGG-CDL7 solves both. Its protective internal box prevents access to the lock mechanism from the inside of the gate, and its patented design is engineered to minimise the amount of drilling and cutting required during installation. The CDL7 digital lock mounts directly to the gate guard without requiring additional mounting plates.

The CGG-CDL7 is ambidextrous - it can be mounted for left or right hand gate configurations. The built-in handle stop prevents the lever from being over-rotated, which protects the lock mechanism during normal operation. The strike plate is adjustable to compensate for gate sag, maintaining consistent latch engagement over time. The latch position remains consistent from the outside of the gate post regardless of gate thickness within the adjustment range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the CDL7100 digital lock come included with this gate guard?

No. The CGG-CDL7 is the mounting box only - the CDL7100 digital lock is sold separately. The gate guard is designed to accept the CDL71 and CDL72 locks (single and dual keypad variants) and they mount directly to the gate guard without additional mounting plates. Check the Carbine CDL7 range for the correct lock model for your application.

What gate post sizes does this fit?

The CGG-CDL7 adjusts to suit gate post thicknesses from 40mm to 65mm. This covers the majority of standard aluminium and steel tubular gate frames used in Australian residential and commercial installations. If your post falls outside this range, the gate guard cannot be used and an alternative mounting solution is required.

Can this be installed on a timber gate?

The CGG-CDL7 is designed for metal gates. For timber gates, a different gate guard model is required. Contact us before ordering if you are unsure whether your gate material is compatible.

What backsets does this support?

The CGG-CDL7 supports both 60mm and 70mm backsets. The backset is the distance from the edge of the gate to the centre of the latch bolt. Confirm which backset your CDL7 lock is configured for before installing - the gate guard accommodates both, but the lock and gate guard must be set to match.

What does the handle stop do and why does it matter?

The handle stop is a mechanical feature that limits how far the lever can be rotated past its normal operating position. Without it, a lever can be over-rotated under hard use or attempted forced entry, which can damage the internal mechanism of the lock. The built-in handle stop on the CGG-CDL7 protects the CDL7 lock from this type of damage in a gate environment where levers are often pushed hard.

Additional Information

Lock Not Included - Order Separately:
This listing is for the CGG-CDL7 mounting box only. The CDL7100 digital lock must be ordered separately. When ordering, confirm whether you need the CDL71 (single keypad, PIN entry from one side) or CDL72 (dual keypad, PIN entry from both sides). Both variants mount directly to the CGG-CDL7 gate guard without additional plates.
Gate Sag and Strike Adjustment:
Gates sag over time - particularly wider or heavier metal gates. As a gate drops on its hinge side, the latch and strike move out of alignment, causing the gate to drag or fail to latch fully. The CGG-CDL7's adjustable strike plate can be repositioned to realign with a sagging gate without replacing the lock or gate guard. This is a significant practical advantage in gate environments compared to a fixed strike.
Outdoor and Weather Exposure:
The CGG-CDL7 is constructed from stainless steel with a powder-coated finish for weather resistance. For coastal or marine-adjacent installations, confirm the corrosion resistance requirements of your site with your installer. The CDL7 digital lock paired with this gate guard also has its own IP and environmental ratings - check the CDL7100 product page for details before specifying in high-salt or high-humidity environments.
Installation Instructions:
Two sets of installation instructions are available for download in the PDF Resources section below. The CGG-CDL7 Gate Guard Instructions (A01) is the current version specific to this model. The CGG Gate Guard Instructions (Rev A) covers the broader gate guard range. Terry's recommends reviewing both documents prior to installation.
