McGrath ULTRA-SECUA Dual Unlock Smart Lock — Screen Door
The McGrath ULTRA-SECUA Dual Unlock is a purpose-designed digital smart lock for hinged aluminium security screen doors, including single-point and triple-locking designs. It delivers keyless entry via PIN, RFID card or tag, and Bluetooth eKey through the McGrath Locks App, with a mechanical key override included. Unlike standard door smart locks, the ULTRA-SECUA is engineered for the specific challenges of screen door installation — narrow aluminium frames, multi-point locking bars, and the requirement for the internal handle to remain secure against tampering through the mesh.
The Dual Unlock configuration adds a coordinated unlocking action that requires simultaneous operation of the screen door lock and the paired main door lock. This prevents access by simply reaching through the screen and turning a standard lever. For a clear explanation of how Dual Unlock works and when it makes sense, see our guide: What Dual Unlock Actually Does.
The lock is supplied with a screen door mortice lock and strike plate. The external housing carries an IP66 rating for outdoor exposure.
Same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays)
The ULTRA-SECUA installation is more complex than a standard door smart lock. Correct spindle selection depends on screen door thickness (19-25 mm or 25-30 mm). Incorrect hub alignment will prevent the lock from functioning. Terry's recommends professional installation for this product. For our supply + install service, see Site Survey & Installation Services.

The ULTRA-SECUA suits single and multi-point hinge security and screen door locks. However, on some existing triple lock kits, the top and bottom locks — including the plastic adaptor — need to be reversed. This allows the triple kit to be locked from the inside by lifting the ULTRA-SECUA interior handle upwards. Failure to reverse these components will prevent the multi-point bars from operating correctly. Compatibility also depends on whether your triple kit uses rigid rods or flexible cables — cable-based kits are not compatible. The diagram shows the standard multi-point kit configuration. For full guidance see McGrath Ultra Secua & Triple Lock Kits — Cables vs Rods.
Dual Unlock allows your security screen door and main door to unlock together with a single action. For a clear, plain-English explanation of how it works and when it makes sense, read our guide: What Dual Unlock Actually Does. Not sure whether this or the standard ULTRA-SECUA is right for you? Installation & Compatibility
- Designed for hinged security screen doors. Not intended for sliding screen doors without specialist consultation.
- Compatible with most screen door mortice locks including Whitco, Austral, Doric, and Lockwood.
- Spindle selection depends on screen door thickness: 51 mm spindle for 19-25 mm doors; 57 mm spindle for 25-30 mm doors.
- Handing is field-changeable — rotate the interior handle 90 degrees with a screwdriver to change from left to right hand (or vice versa). See our guide to field-reversible handing for more detail.
- On triple-locking security screens, the top and bottom lock components (including the plastic adaptor) may need to be reversed to allow the interior handle to operate the multi-point bars correctly. Compatibility depends on whether the kit uses rods or cables — see our cables vs rods guide for brand-specific detail.
- Always check the clearance between your security screen and main door before ordering. See Check the Clearance Between Screen Door & Main Door for the measurement process. See also Chapter 02 — Measuring Your Door for the full set of pre-purchase measurements.
Handle Direction Adjustment
The ULTRA-SECUA suits both left-hand and right-hand opening screen doors. Handing is field-changeable without tools beyond a screwdriver — no need to order a specific handed version.
To change the handle direction:
- Using a screwdriver, loosen the inside screw on the interior assembly.
- Rotate the interior handle 90° to the left or right as required.
- Retighten the screw securely.
Handing should be confirmed during installation. If in doubt, a locksmith can set this correctly as part of the installation process.

Battery, Power & Backup Access
- Powered by 2 x 3V lithium batteries (included with the lock).
- Typical battery life approximately 3-4 years under normal residential use.
- Low battery alerts provided audibly at the lock and within the McGrath Locks App.
- Terry's strongly recommends using Duracell batteries when replacements are required. Do not mix old and new batteries.
- Mechanical key override provides emergency access if batteries are depleted.

Wi-Fi Remote Access (Optional)
This smart lock does not include native Wi-Fi connectivity. Remote access and management features are available only when the lock is paired with a compatible McGrath Locks gateway. When a gateway is installed, users can remotely unlock the screen door, issue or revoke credentials, and view access activity through the McGrath Locks App from anywhere with an internet connection.
For guidance on selecting the right gateway model, see our comparison of all four TTLock-platform gateway generations or the McGrath gateway comparison. For the difference between Bluetooth-only and gateway-connected operation, see Chapter 14 — Bluetooth vs Gateway.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ULTRA-SECUA suitable for sliding screen doors?
The ULTRA-SECUA is designed for hinged screen doors. Sliding screen door applications should not be attempted without specialist consultation first. If you have a sliding screen door, contact Terry's before ordering to discuss options.
What door thickness does the ULTRA-SECUA suit?
The lock suits screen doors from 19 mm to 30 mm thick. Spindle selection is determined by door thickness: the 51 mm spindle suits 19-25 mm doors, and the 57 mm spindle suits 25-30 mm doors. Before ordering, confirm the thickness of your screen door and check the clearance between the screen and main door. See Check the Clearance Between Screen Door & Main Door for a step-by-step guide, and Chapter 02 — Measuring Your Door for the full set of pre-purchase measurements.
Can this be installed on a triple-locking security screen door?
Yes, but triple-locking screen installations are more involved than single-point replacements, and compatibility depends on your existing kit type. The first thing to check is whether your triple kit uses rigid rods or flexible cables — cable-based kits are not compatible with the ULTRA-SECUA. For rod-based kits, brand-specific modifications are typically required: Whitco installations usually require top bolt reversal and striker relocation; Lockwood installations are the most complex and are not DIY. This is why Terry's recommends professional installation. See the full guide: Triple Lock Kits — Cables vs Rods.
Does the lock require internet access to operate?
No. The lock operates locally via Bluetooth using the McGrath Locks App. No internet connection is required for day-to-day access. Remote management, remote unlocking, and credential issuance from outside the property require an optional Wi-Fi gateway. See Chapter 14 — Bluetooth vs Gateway for a full explanation of what changes when a gateway is added.
What is the difference between the ULTRA-SECUA and the ULTRA-SECUA Dual Unlock?
This product is the Dual Unlock variant, which adds a coordinated unlocking mechanism that pairs this lock with a compatible main door smart lock. The standard ULTRA-SECUA operates as an independent screen door lock without requiring synchronised operation with the main door. For a plain-English explanation of what Dual Unlock does, see What Dual Unlock Actually Does. See also: McGrath ULTRA-SECUA Digital Security Screen Door Smart Lock (standard variant).
Additional Information
This is one of the more technically involved smart lock installations available. Beyond the standard exterior and interior assembly, the installer must select the correct spindle for door thickness, correctly align the hub triangle, and on triple-locking screens potentially reverse the top and bottom lock components. Compatibility with triple locks depends on rod vs cable linkage — see Cables vs Rods — The Key Rule. Terry's strongly recommends professional installation. For details on our supply + install service, see Site Survey & Installation Services.
Insufficient clearance between your security screen and main door can prevent the ULTRA-SECUA from fitting without the lock body contacting the main door. This is a common oversight. Before ordering, measure the projection of your existing screen door lock and compare against the clearance available. See Check the Clearance Between Screen Door & Main Door for the measurement process.
The external housing carries an IP66 rating, providing resistance to dust ingress and high-pressure water jets. The internal unit — which houses the battery compartment — is not IP rated and must not be exposed to water or moisture. For a plain-English explanation of IP ratings, see Chapter 11 — Australian Smart Lock Standards.
For an overview of the McGrath Locks range and how this product fits within it, see Chapter 10 — Smart Lock Brand Profiles.
The standard version operates the screen door independently — no main door pairing required. View it here: McGrath ULTRA-SECUA Digital Security Screen Door Smart Lock. Not sure which is right for you? Read What Dual Unlock Actually Does.
