The Yale Assure Lock SL is a 100 per cent key free touchscreen deadbolt for standard timber, fibreglass and aluminium entry doors. There is no keyway and no cylinder anywhere on the lock: entry is by PIN code on the capacitive touchscreen, or from your phone through the Yale Home App over Bluetooth. The app is a free download on both Android and iOS with the same features on each. The Australian HK build ships with the Yale Home Module and DoorSense door position sensor already in the box, so the smart features work from the moment it is fitted.
Mechanically it is a conventional adjustable-backset deadbolt. It suits the standard Australian single-bore preparation - a 54mm cross bore and a 25mm edge bore - at either a 60mm or a 70mm backset, on doors from 35mm to 57mm thick. If your door already carries a deadbolt, the Assure Lock SL drops straight into the existing holes with a Phillips screwdriver. See Chapter 02 for backset measurement before ordering.
Because the lock has no mechanical override, it is best specified where the dwelling has another way in. The two callouts below are the two things worth reading before you buy. A flat battery is recovered with a 9V battery held to the terminals under the keypad, not with a key. Yale Home App and Smart Home Integration
The Yale Home App is a free download on Google Play and the App Store and is the control surface for everything the Home Module adds: entry code management, guest access, the 24/7 activity trail, Auto-Unlock, Auto-Lock and DoorSense alerts. The app is the same on Android and iOS. No feature on this lock is reserved for one phone brand, and Auto-Unlock works on both.
Beyond the app, the lock joins a smart home by two routes. Apple HomeKit pairs directly to the Home Module over Bluetooth, so Siri and the Apple Home app work at the door with no extra hardware, though remote HomeKit control still needs your own Apple home hub. Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings all work through the optional Connect Plus Hub 2, which also delivers remote access to Apple households. Remote Access, Alexa and Google
The Assure Lock SL has no built-in Wi-Fi. Adding the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 - a plug-in 2.4GHz gateway, sold separately - extends the lock beyond Bluetooth range and enables:
- Lock, unlock and manage entry codes from anywhere
- Real-time notifications for entry, door ajar and low battery
- Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings voice control
- DualDoor single-command operation alongside a Yale Unity Security Screen Door Lock
Without the hub the lock is fully functional at the door: keypad entry, Bluetooth app control and HomeKit all work. The hub adds distance, not capability at the door. Security and Privacy Features
- Wrong code lockout. After five consecutive wrong entries the keypad shuts down for 60 seconds and flashes red.
- All Code Lockout Mode. The Master Entry Code holder can suspend every user code at once, leaving only the master working. A red padlock shows on the keypad when active.
- Privacy button. Held for four seconds on the inside lock, it disables all PIN codes - a do-not-disturb mode for the door. Read what an internal snib or privacy mode actually disables before relying on it.
- Master Entry Code separation. Yale recommends a master code of six or more digits used only for programming, with a separate everyday code for entry.
- Auto Re-lock. Off by default. Once enabled, the deadbolt re-throws after 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 minutes or 3 minutes.
- Inside notification light. Shows locked status on the inside escutcheon. Disabled by default and switched on in Advanced Lock Settings.
- One Touch Locking. Enabled by default. A single press of the keypad throws the bolt without a code.
Battery and Power
- 4 x AA alkaline batteries, supplied in the box.
- 9V emergency power. Hold a 9V alkaline against the two contacts under the keypad, either way round, then wake the lock and enter your code.
- Low battery warning. A red battery indicator on the keypad flashes and the lock announces low battery. Replace all four cells together with fresh alkalines.
- Alkaline only. Yale specifies alkaline cells. Lithium and rechargeable cells report voltage differently and can mask a genuine low-battery condition.

Choosing the right through-bolts
Three screw sets are supplied and only one pair is used. Green set B suits a 35mm door, black set C is the standard for 44.5mm, and silver set D covers 51 to 57mm. Check the door with the supplied door checker before assembly - fitting the wrong length is the most common reason a keypad will not sit flush.

Installation Tips
On a door already prepared for a deadbolt this is a Phillips screwdriver job. On a new or unprepared door you will also need a drill, a 54mm hole saw, a wood chisel, a tape and a level. The points below come from Yale's own manuals and from what we see on site. More at Chapter 12 - Installation and Troubleshooting.
- Keep the bolt retracted. The bolt must be in the retracted, unlocked position through the whole assembly, and again before the batteries go in. Most first-time failures trace back to this.
- Check the door before you start. Use the supplied door checker to confirm thickness, backset, cross bore, edge bore and strike pocket depth. Set the adjustable deadbolt to 60 or 70mm to match.
- Route the cable under the bolt. The keypad harness passes beneath the deadbolt and through the cable hole in the mounting plate. Use the cable hooks and do not pinch it - a pinched harness causes scrolling numerals and phantom failures.
- Seat the cable connector fully. Push until it is firmly home in the adapter on the inside lock. A partly seated connector is the classic cause of fast battery drain.
- Thumbturn vertical. Check the thumbturn sits vertical and turns freely before the batteries go in.
- Batteries out before the module. The Home Module or a network module can only be inserted or removed with the batteries out.
- Let it hand itself. With the bolt retracted, fit the batteries and the lock will hand automatically. If the bolt will not throw afterwards, re-hand it from the settings menu.
- Manual screwdriver on the strike. Yale specifically warns against power drivers on the strike plate - they strip heads and enlarge holes. If the bolt is tight, bend the strike tab slightly or deepen the strike pocket.

How does Auto-Unlock work?
The app watches your phone leave and return using geofencing, then completes the unlock over Bluetooth as you reach the door. It only arms once you have genuinely left the area, so it will not fire while you are in the back garden. Bluetooth range first - the phone needs to be genuinely close. If you run the Connect Plus Hub 2, check it is on the 2.4GHz band and within range of both the router and the lock. Mesh networks that steer clients between bands are a common culprit; see band steering and smart locks.

Three usual causes. A cable connector that is not fully seated in the inside lock, a deadbolt binding in the strike, or a door that has dropped on its hinges. Can I fit it to an aluminium door?
Yale lists timber, fibreglass and aluminium. In practice the constraint is the stile - the escutcheon needs enough flat face either side of the 54mm bore. On narrow-stile aluminium, look at the Yale Unity Slim instead, which is purpose-built for narrow frames. Check stile width in Chapter 02.

Note that ASSA ABLOY Australia's specification sheet quotes the inside lock as 175 high x 75 wide, and the Yale catalogue quotes 168 x 70; the drawing is reproduced here exactly as issued and should be used for clearance checks.

Measure the flat face of the door stile either side of the bore. The outside keypad needs 66mm of clear width and the inside lock 70mm, plus room for the thumbturn to rotate. On narrow-stile aluminium doors, check this before committing.

Coverage is tiered by component type - mechanical parts, electrical and electronic components, and keys each carry their own warranty period. The summary below sets out each period, what is excluded, and how to make a claim through Gold Coast Smart Locks.
This warranty applies to genuine Yale products purchased new in Australia from ASSA ABLOY or its authorised resellers. It operates in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

- Keep your proof of original purchase (invoice or receipt).
- Contact Gold Coast Smart Locks - operated by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries - as your authorised retailer, and follow the steps on our Returns & Warranty page.
- Return the product securely packed to protect it in transit, together with your proof of purchase and your name, address, email and phone number.
- ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim. Where the warranty applies, they will (at their option) repair the product, replace it with the same or closest equivalent Yale product, or refund the price you paid.
Claims made directly to ASSA ABLOY require a Case Number from their Customer Service Department before goods are returned - products sent back without a Case Number may not be accepted. Costs of returning a product are the customer's responsibility.
What Is Not Covered
- Normal wear and tear.
- Misuse, abuse, accident, or use outside Yale's published technical specifications.
- Improper maintenance or neglect, or failure to follow ASSA ABLOY's care and maintenance recommendations.
- Use of batteries other than those specified; batteries themselves are not covered.
- Unauthorised alteration, modification or repair by anyone other than ASSA ABLOY authorised personnel.
- Custom orders made to components or specifications supplied by someone other than ASSA ABLOY.
- Goods that were not new when purchased, second-hand goods, or products not originally sold in Australia through ASSA ABLOY or an authorised reseller.
- Products with brands, marks, plates, numbers or other ASSA ABLOY information defaced or removed.
- Use of substitute, replacement or non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or cylinders.
- Corrosive exposure, including vapours, chemicals, abrasive compounds, contamination, pollution, coastal air, salt spray and high humidity.
- Removal, refitment or replacement of products, and any associated charges.

Batteries, finishes and stainless steel
Batteries are consumable and are not covered. Cosmetic finishes and appearance are excluded. Stainless steel resists staining but is not stain-proof - tea staining is a natural process and is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.

Easy to install. Fits easily in existing lock that had to be replaced. Very easy to program. It has very functional auto lock and unlock functions. Lock can also be operated using mobile phone apps and status of lock can also be viewed from apps.
