dormakaba MS2602 Primary Mortice Lock – 60mm Backset – Satin Stainless Steel
The dormakaba MS2602 is a commercial-grade primary mortice lock body manufactured from 304 grade stainless steel throughout. It is designed for high-traffic applications where security compliance, egress function, and long-term mechanical reliability are required. The MS2602 is a primary lock — meaning it is the core mortice lock body supplied ready to accept an appropriate cylinder and adaptor combination for the function required on site.
The lock is rated to AS4145.2-2008 Security Level 8 (SL8) for physical security and Durability Grade 8 (D8) — the highest grades available under the Australian lockset standard. It is endorsed by the Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC) at Security Level 3 (SL3) when installed with an approved keying system, making it suitable for government and secure-facility applications.
The MS2602 supports single-action egress in compliance with Australian building egress codes. The cylinder egress turn operates in a downward motion. The lock body is fully non-handed and reversible, and is compatible with most electric strikes and restricted keying systems. It is supplied without a cylinder — the installer specifies and fits the appropriate cylinder for the required function.
The dormakaba MS2602 is fire rated to 4 hours when installed correctly in a compliant fire door assembly. This makes it suitable for fire doors in commercial buildings, stairwells, and emergency egress applications. All other hardware in the assembly — including the door closer, hinges, and seals — must also be fire rated and compatible with the certified doorset.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this lock include a cylinder?
No. The MS2602 is supplied without a cylinder. The installer specifies the appropriate cylinder and adaptor combination to suit the function required on site. Different function codes (KX storeroom, KZ classroom, KWTA entrance, TA patio, PTA privacy) all use the same MS2602 lock body with different cylinders and adaptors. Contact your dormakaba representative or a licensed locksmith to confirm the correct specification.
Is this lock suitable for fire-rated door assemblies?
Yes. The MS2602 is fire rated to 4 hours. When specifying for fire door use, the entire door assembly must be certified — not just the lock. Confirm that the door, door closer, hinges, and seals are all fire rated and compatible with the certified doorset. Installation on fire doors should be carried out by a licensed locksmith or fire door specialist. For a plain-English guide to what makes a lock compliant for use on apartment and commercial fire doors in Queensland, see our article on what locks are actually compliant on apartment fire doors.
What does SCEC SL3 approval mean?
SCEC stands for Security Construction and Equipment Committee, an Australian Government advisory body that endorses security products for use in government and sensitive facilities. SL3 is Security Level 3 on the SCEC scale. The MS2602 carries this endorsement when installed with an SCEC-approved keying system — the lock body alone does not confer the endorsement independently. If SCEC SL3 compliance is a project requirement, confirm the complete approved specification with your security consultant or dormakaba representative.
What function configurations can the MS2602 be adapted to?
The MS2602 is the primary lock body and can be configured to a wide range of functions by specifying the appropriate cylinder and adaptor. Available configurations include storeroom lock (KX), escape lock (KX), classroom lock (KZ), single cylinder exit door lock (KZ), emergency classroom lock (KXAT), double cylinder vestibule lock (KXKZ), entrance and office lock (KWTA), entrance lock (KXT), patio lock (TA), privacy latch (PTA), and exit lock. See the dormakaba MS2600/MS2900 technical catalogue (available in the PDF Files tab) for the full function code table. Contact dormakaba or your locksmith to specify the correct function code for your application.
Can this lock body be used with the dormakaba M5 BLE smart lock?
Yes. The dormakaba M5 BLE smart lock is supplied with the MS2602 mortice lock body as its primary lock. The DKMS2602SSS is also available separately when a replacement lock body is required or where the M5 BLE digital module is being upgraded onto an existing MS2602 installation.
Additional Information
The MS2602 is described as a primary mortice lock to distinguish it from secondary latching devices such as roller bolts and deadlatches. A primary lock provides the main active locking function of the door and is the lock body that accepts the principal cylinder. The "primary" designation is also relevant to SCEC and fire door specification, where a compliant primary lock is a mandatory requirement.
AS4145.2 is the Australian Standard for locksets and locksets for hinged doors. The security level (SL) grades rate physical resistance to attack, from SL1 (light duty residential) to SL8 (highest commercial security). The durability grade (D) rates mechanical cycle life, from D1 to D8. The MS2602 holding SL8 and D8 ratings means it has been tested to the highest grade available under the standard for both attack resistance and long-term mechanical durability. For a plain-English explanation of AS4145.2 and the other Australian standards that apply to commercial locks, see Chapter 11 — Australian Smart Lock Standards in our buyer's guide.
For fire door applications, confirm that the complete door assembly is certified — including the door leaf, frame, closer, hinges, seals, and all hardware. Lock certification alone does not make a fire door compliant. In Queensland, fire doors in Class 2-9 buildings require maintenance under AS1851 and QDC MP 6.1. Installation and modification of fire doors must be carried out by appropriately licensed tradespersons. For further guidance: our article on what locks are actually compliant on apartment fire doors covers the compliance rules; our article on fire door types and smart lock certification explains E-Core, Firecore and Pyropanel door assemblies; and Chapter 05 — Fire Door Smart Locks in our buyer's guide provides the full specification framework including NCC requirements and Queensland maintenance obligations.
The MS2602 is a versatile lock body, but selecting the correct function configuration requires understanding how the door needs to operate on both sides. For emergency egress, single-action egress (required under the NCC for certain occupancies), or privacy functions, the cylinder and adaptor combination must be matched precisely to the function code. Incorrect selection can result in a door that does not comply with egress requirements. Engage a licensed locksmith to specify and install the correct configuration, particularly on fire doors and in commercial buildings.
The MS2602 includes an anti-lockout (kick-off) mechanism as standard on applicable function configurations. This prevents the lock from being accidentally left in the locked position from inside, ensuring egress is always available. Note: the anti-lockout function is standard on most vestibule, entrance, and patio configurations, but is NOT standard on the T (Turn Exit Door Lock) function. Confirm anti-lockout requirements when specifying the function code.
