Does the compartment fit a full car key fob?
Yes. The internal storage area (L70mm x W75mm x H35mm) accommodates most modern push-button and flip-key car fobs without needing to detach the mechanical key. If your fob is unusually large, measure it against the compartment dimensions before ordering.
Is the RFID wallet a true signal blocker or just a foil bag?
The included wallet is a purpose-built signal-blocking pouch. Foil-lined bags reduce the radio frequency signal your fob transmits but do not fully stop it. The FK Surf wallet is designed to completely block the signal. Before relying on it, FK Surf recommends testing: with the key inside the correctly closed wallet, your car should not start. Even a small gap in the velcro closure can allow signal to escape.
Can I attach this to a tow point on a 4WD?
Yes. The steel shackle is sized for standard tow points, tow bars, and similar metal anchor points. FK Surf advises hiding the keysafe from view on the vehicle rather than leaving it visible. A keysafe in plain sight significantly increases the likelihood of a break-in attempt.
How do I maintain the combination dials after beach use?
After any beach or saltwater session, rinse the entire keysafe - particularly the combination dials - with fresh water to flush out salt residue. Apply a small amount of WD-40 or a similar light lubricant to the dials to prevent salt crystallisation from stiffening the mechanism. Salt buildup is the primary cause of combination stiffness on surf-use keysafes.
Should I store my smart key fob inside the keysafe when surfing?
FK Surf advises against this wherever avoidable. Their recommended approach is to store only a mechanical "surf key" (cut to open the car door only, with no remote or engine-start function) inside the keysafe, and place your full smart fob inside the RFID signal-blocking wallet inside the car. If you must leave the smart fob in the keysafe, use the RFID wallet inside the keysafe, conceal the keysafe from view, and consider adding a secondary deterrent such as a steering wheel lock.

Relay attack thieves use a signal amplifier to capture the fob's signal from inside the keysafe and relay it to a partner standing at your car - the vehicle detects the amplified signal, unlocks, and in many cases starts, just as if the key were nearby. Storing the fob in the RFID signal-blocking wallet stops the fob from broadcasting entirely. FK Surf include a plain-language warning in their product documentation: thieves actively target surf key safes at beach car parks. A determined thief with the right tools can break into most portable keysafes regardless of build quality. The most effective risk mitigation is to reduce the value of what is inside. Storing a mechanical surf key (door-open only, no remote functions) rather than a full smart fob means a break-in yields access to the car's interior but not the ability to drive it away. - Have your proof of purchase ready — order confirmation email or receipt.
- Where a return is required, ensure the item is in its original condition with tags attached (unless the item is faulty). Send via registered post — you are responsible for the item until it is received.
- Once the item is received and assessed, a replacement of the same item will be arranged if the claim is approved.
