The Häfele Genesis DL8800 (DL8800) is a multi-credential smart lock built on an Australian mortice lock platform. It provides five access methods - touchscreen PIN code, RFID card or tag, fingerprint biometrics, mobile app control, and mechanical key override - and is certified to Australian fire door, lockset, and accessibility standards.
The DL8800 operates on Häfele's Smart Living App platform (available on iOS and Android) ![]()
, providing user management, access history, timed PIN codes, one-time random codes, and remote unlock capability. Remote access and app management features require pairing with the Häfele Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately). Without a gateway, the lock operates fully via its onboard access methods.
The body is constructed from stainless steel with forged steel front and back plates and is factory tested to AS4145.2 (Australian standard for locksets and door hardware). An Australian-profile oval cylinder is included, with master keying options available to suit site keying systems.
Usually ships next business day (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
The Häfele Genesis DL8800 is tested and certified for use on AU/NZ rated fire doors. Certified for E-Core and Firecore door systems. Pyropanel certification is pending. Tested to AS1530.4 (Fire resistance in construction). For a plain-English explanation of Australian fire door and lockset standards, see Chapter 11 - Australian Standards, AS1905.1. See also our guide to Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks.
Disability Act Compliance (DDA)
- The DL8800 lever handle is DDA compliant to AS1428.1 (Design for access and mobility). For more on DDA smart lock requirements, see Chapter 09 - DDA, NDIS & Accessibility.
- The Coogee lever design assists users with limited grip strength or reduced dexterity.
- DDA compliance relates to the lever handle design only and does not imply full building access compliance for the installation.

Remote App Access (Optional - Zigbee Gateway Required)
The DL8800 communicates using Zigbee wireless protocol. Remote access features - including remote unlock from anywhere in the world, one-time random codes, timed PIN codes, access authorisation management, volume control, and access history review - are only available when the lock is paired with the Häfele Zigbee Gateway with Wi-Fi/USB Cable (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately). The gateway connects to your home or office 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and bridges the lock to the Häfele Smart Living App. If your router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, this can cause connectivity issues - see our guide to Wi-Fi band steering and gateway selection before installing. Browse all smart lock gateways and modules.
The Häfele Smart Living App also integrates with your smart home - controlling doorbells, lights, air-conditioners, cameras, roller doors and blinds alongside your lock, all from one platform.
Without a gateway, the lock operates fully as a standalone unit using its onboard access methods: touchscreen PIN, fingerprint, RFID card/tag, and mechanical key.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The lock communicates using Zigbee protocol. To access remote features via the Häfele Smart Living App, the lock must be paired with the Häfele Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately). The gateway connects to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and bridges the lock to the internet. If your router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, see our article on why smart locks sometimes drop off Wi-Fi for network setup guidance. For a full comparison of gateway options, see Chapter 08 - Gateway Comparison.
Yes. The DL8800 is tested and certified to AS1530.4 for use on AU/NZ fire-rated door assemblies. It is certified for E-Core and Firecore door systems. Pyropanel certification was pending at the time of publication - confirm current status with Häfele Australia before specifying for Pyropanel assemblies. For a full explanation of fire door types and compliance, see our guide to fire door types and smart lock certification and Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks.
Yes. Order the No Cyl Lock Kit (912.20.787) and pair it with either the MK C4 Oval 570 Cylinder (911.75.222) for C4 master keying, or the MK Restricted Oval 570 Cylinder (911.75.226) for restricted keying systems. Confirm your keying requirements with your locksmith or Häfele distributor before ordering.
The lock uses Häfele Mifare credentials. Replacement key cards (912.20.905) and key tags (912.20.906) are available separately. Use Häfele-supplied Mifare credentials for guaranteed compatibility. Third-party Mifare credentials may work but are not manufacturer-confirmed. Browse all RFID cards and fobs.
Yes. An accessory screw pack with extended spindles (Cat. 912.20.785) extends the compatible door thickness range to 50-70mm. The standard screw pack included with the kit suits 30-50mm doors. For guidance on measuring your door, see Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door.
Additional Information
The DL8800 is certified for use on E-Core and Firecore fire door assemblies to AS1530.4. When specifying for fire door use, confirm that all other hardware in the assembly - including hinges, strikes, and door seals - is also fire rated and compatible. Pyropanel certification was listed as pending in the manufacturer brochure; confirm current certification status with Häfele Australia prior to installation. For a reference list of fire-rated smart lock test certificates, see Fire-Rated Smart Lock Certification - Test Reports. See also: apartment fire doors - what locks are actually compliant and our overview of asbestos risk in older apartment fire doors before drilling. For fire-rated door installations, also confirm whether a scar plate is required - see Scar Plates for Smart Locks - Fire Door Requirements. Fire door and commercial installations are also candidates for Terry's professional site survey and installation service - see Site Survey & Installation Services.
The DL8800 supports scramble code entry, which allows additional random digits to be entered before or after the actual PIN code. This prevents observers from identifying the correct code through shoulder surfing or wear patterns on the touchscreen. The scramble digits are ignored by the lock; only the correct sequence within the string unlocks the door.
The No Cyl Lock Kit (912.20.787) is intended for installers integrating the DL8800 into an existing site keying system. A master keyed oval cylinder is ordered separately and fitted at installation. Confirm cylinder suitability with your locksmith or Häfele distributor to ensure compatibility with your existing keying system before ordering. For background on Australian mortice lock formats relevant to this installation type, see our guide to F05 vs F54 ANSI Mortice Locks - Smart Lock Compatibility.
IP55 confirms the lock has been tested for resistance to water spray from any direction and protection against dust ingress. This makes the lock suitable for installation on external entry doors in residential and light commercial environments. IP55 does not mean fully waterproof - avoid sustained high-pressure water contact or direct immersion. The Häfele warranty is voided by installing the lock outdoors without cover and exposing it to direct rain and harsh weather. Pair IP55 performance with appropriate shelter where possible for longest service life. A plain-English explanation of what IP ratings mean is linked from the IP rating row in the specifications table above. For broader context on how coastal environments affect smart lock longevity and maintenance needs, see How Long Do Digital Door Locks Last? - Coastal Environments.
The Coogee lever handle is DDA compliant to AS1428.1 (Design for access and mobility). Compliance relates to the lever handle geometry and operation only - it does not certify the entire installation as accessible under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. For NDIS, SDA, and aged care applications, refer to Chapter 09 - DDA, NDIS & Accessibility in the Smart Lock Buyer's Guide. The DL8800 is also featured in our guide to DDA smart locks for NDIS and disability housing.

Buying Decisions & Suitability
The DL8800 is built on a certified Australian mortice lock platform (AS4145.2), making it one of the few smart locks in Australia that is simultaneously fire door certified (AS1530.4), DDA compliant (AS1428.1), and capable of integration into master keying systems. Most smart locks use a tubular latch or euro-profile body and cannot claim fire certification or master keying. If a customer needs a multi-credential smart lock that ticks regulatory boxes for commercial or strata applications, the DL8800 is a narrow field. Browse our full range at All Smart Locks or explore fire door certified smart locks.
The Coogee lever handle is DDA compliant to AS1428.1, covering the lever geometry and operation force. This makes the DL8800 suitable as a lever smart lock where AS1428.1 lever compliance is needed - for example, NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) entries or aged care common areas. DDA compliance relates to the lever handle only - it does not certify the complete installation as accessible under the Disability Discrimination Act. Full accessibility compliance for a building requires all door hardware and clearances to be assessed together. See our full guide to Chapter 09 - DDA, NDIS & Accessibility and the blog article on DDA smart locks for NDIS and disability housing.
No. The DL8800 works fully as a standalone unit without the gateway. All onboard access methods - touchscreen PIN, fingerprint, RFID card/tag, and mechanical key override - operate independently without any gateway or internet connection. The Häfele Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024, sold separately) is required only if you want remote unlock from anywhere in the world, one-time codes, timed access authorisations, history log review, volume control, or smart home integrations via the Häfele Smart Living App. If you only need to grant entry via a PIN, card, fingerprint, or key, the gateway is optional.
The lock suits doors 30-50mm thick with the included screw pack (Cat. 912.20.784), or 50-70mm thick with the extended screw pack (Cat. 912.20.785). The backset is fixed at 60mm - the distance from the door edge to the centre of the spindle must be 60mm. The mortice is an Australian standard format (AS4145.2). Before ordering, confirm your door's thickness, backset, and stile width; for step-by-step measuring guidance see Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door and the section on mortice lever hardware measurement.
Access, Credentials & Codes
The lock stores up to 300 total credentials across all types: up to 10 administrator IDs, up to 100 fingerprints, up to 290 PIN codes, and up to 290 RFID key cards or tags. These pools overlap - the total is capped at 300 across all credential types combined. For most residential and light commercial applications, 300 is more than sufficient. Sites with more users would need to manage credential recycling when users leave.
Yes - with the Zigbee Gateway paired and the Häfele Smart Living App connected. The app allows you to generate a random one-time code for a guest, which becomes invalid after a single use. This is useful for allowing one-time entry to tradespeople or deliveries without issuing a reusable PIN. Without the gateway, all codes stored on the lock are persistent and must be manually deleted when no longer needed.
The DL8800 is designed to work with Häfele Mifare credentials (Cat. 912.20.905 for key cards, Cat. 912.20.906 for key tags). Third-party Mifare cards may work but are not confirmed by the manufacturer - compatibility cannot be guaranteed. For assured performance, use Häfele-supplied credentials. Replacement cards and tags are available separately. Browse RFID cards and fobs.
Scramble code allows you to enter random digits before or after your actual PIN when unlocking the door. The lock ignores the extra digits and only triggers on the correct code sequence within the string. This prevents anyone nearby from learning your PIN by watching which keys you press, or identifying your code from fingerprint wear patterns on the touchscreen. For most residential and commercial applications, enabling scramble code is a good security habit. It does not change how the PIN is programmed.
Gateway, App & Remote Access
With the Zigbee Gateway paired, the Smart Living App gives you: remote unlock from anywhere in the world; one-time random code generation for guests; custom PIN codes with controlled access times; management of access authorisations across all credential types; access history log review; volume control for the lock's audio feedback; and integration with smart home devices including doorbells, lights, air-conditioners, cameras, roller doors, and blinds. Without the gateway, the app cannot connect to the lock. For general gateway guidance see Chapter 08 - Gateway Comparison.
The Zigbee Gateway connects to your network via the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band only. If your router uses band steering (auto-assigning devices to whichever band it prefers), the gateway may not connect reliably if steered to 5GHz. The most reliable solution is to either create a separate 2.4GHz SSID on your router, or disable band steering temporarily to connect the gateway. Once connected, it usually maintains the connection. For a full explanation of this common issue, see band steering and gateway selection and our article on why smart locks sometimes drop off Wi-Fi.
Fire Doors & Compliance
The DL8800 is tested and certified to AS1530.4 (Fire resistance in construction) for use on AU/NZ fire-rated door assemblies. It is certified for E-Core and Firecore door systems. Pyropanel certification was listed as pending in the October 2023 manufacturer brochure - confirm the current status directly with Häfele Australia (1300 185 044) before specifying for Pyropanel assemblies. For a full explanation of fire door types including E-Core, Firecore, and Pyropanel, see Fire Door Types & Smart Lock Certification and Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks. For fire-rated installation work, also consider whether a scar plate is needed - see Scar Plates for Smart Locks - Fire Door Requirements.
Yes, if you are working on an older Gold Coast apartment fire door. Some pre-1990 fire doors on the Gold Coast contain asbestos in the core material. Drilling into one releases fibres. Before any drilling on an older fire door, check for asbestos risk - see our article on asbestos in Gold Coast apartment fire doors for the three risk windows and what steps to take. If in doubt, engage a licensed asbestos assessor before the locksmith appointment.
Installation, Power & Maintenance
The DL8800 has an emergency C-type USB port on the body. Hold a USB-C power bank against the port to supply temporary power, then unlock using your PIN code, fingerprint, or RFID card. This allows you to get inside to replace the batteries. As a further backup, the mechanical key override using the oval cylinder allows physical entry at any time regardless of battery state. The lock also gives advance low battery warnings via voice, tone, and LED indicators - so you should have plenty of notice before this situation arises.
Yes. IP55 provides a solid baseline for external door installations: it is tested against water spray from any direction and dust ingress. However, the Häfele warranty specifies that installing the lock outdoors without cover, in direct contact with rain and harsh weather, voids the warranty. Where the lock faces the elements directly - particularly near the ocean - a door with an adequate awning or overhead shelter provides the best outcome for both performance and warranty coverage. For broader context on how coastal conditions affect smart lock service life, see The Realities of Electronic Door Locks - Coastal Environments and How Long Do Digital Door Locks Last? - Coastal Environments.
Yes. Order the No Cyl Lock Kit (912.20.787) - this includes the electronic module and mortice but no cylinder. Separately, order either the MK C4 Oval 570 Cylinder (Cat. 911.75.222) for a C4 master keying system, or the MK Restricted Oval 570 Cylinder (Cat. 911.75.226) for a restricted keying system. A qualified locksmith fits the appropriate cylinder at installation, integrating the DL8800 into your existing key system. For more on Australian mortice lock standards and how they relate to smart lock installations, see our guide on F05 vs F54 ANSI Mortice Locks - Smart Lock Compatibility.
The DL8800 is a full Australian mortice lock installation - it requires cutting a mortice pocket and preparing the door face to accept the lock body. This is more involved than a rim lock or a deadbolt, and most buyers choose professional installation, particularly for fire door or commercial applications. Terry's Tradies provides supply and installation across the Gold Coast and surrounding areas. See our Site Survey & Installation Services article for more information. For a discussion of common installation mistakes, see Chapter 12 - Installation & Troubleshooting.
