Häfele Zigbee Gateway with Wi-Fi/USB Cable
The Häfele Zigbee Gateway (Cat. 985.03.024) is the bridge between compatible Häfele smart locks and the Häfele Smart Living App. It connects to your home or office 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network on one side, and communicates with the lock via Zigbee protocol on the other, linking them to the internet and enabling remote app features.
Without a gateway, the Häfele Genesis DL8800 Smart Lock and Häfele Digital Deadbolt DL4000 operate fully as standalone units using their onboard access methods. The gateway is only required when you want to use Smart Living App features such as remote unlock, timed codes, and access history. If remote access is not needed, the gateway does not need to be purchased.
The gateway is a compact, circular white device powered by USB (cable supplied). Cat. 985.03.024 supersedes the earlier Cat. 985.03.006.
The gateway is only needed when you want to use the Häfele Smart Living App for remote access features. Compatible Häfele smart locks operate fully without a gateway using their onboard credentials. Purchase this gateway only when remote app features — such as remote unlock, timed codes, access history, or remote authorisation management — are part of your installation plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the gateway to use my Häfele DL8800 or DL4000?
No. Both the DL8800 and DL4000 operate fully as standalone locks without a gateway, using their onboard access methods — PIN code, RFID card/tag, fingerprint (DL8800 only), and mechanical key override. The gateway is only required if you want to use the Häfele Smart Living App for remote features such as remote unlock, timed codes, or access history.
Does the gateway need to be positioned near the lock?
The gateway communicates with the lock via Zigbee, which has a useful indoor range. The gateway does not need to be immediately adjacent to the lock, but should be within Zigbee range of it and within Wi-Fi range of your router. Exact range will vary depending on wall construction and interference. Position the gateway centrally where both signals are reliable.
What Wi-Fi does the gateway connect to?
The gateway connects to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. It does not support 5GHz. If your router uses band steering (automatically merging 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one network name), the gateway may experience connectivity issues. In that case, configure your router to broadcast the 2.4GHz band separately. See our article on why smart locks sometimes drop off Wi-Fi for more detail.
I already have a DL8800 installed without a gateway. Can I add the gateway later?
Yes. The gateway can be added to an existing DL8800 or DL4000 installation at any time. Pair it with the lock through the Häfele Smart Living App following the in-app pairing instructions. No hardware modification to the lock is required.
What is the difference between Cat. 985.03.006 and Cat. 985.03.024?
Cat. 985.03.024 is the current version of the Häfele Zigbee Gateway and supersedes Cat. 985.03.006. The updated model includes Wi-Fi connectivity integrated into the gateway unit, which is why the product name now includes "Wi-Fi" explicitly. If you have ordered or specified Cat. 985.03.006 in the past, Cat. 985.03.024 is the current replacement.
Additional Information
The gateway connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. Most home routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Where a router uses band steering to merge these into a single network name, the gateway may struggle to maintain a stable connection. If you experience repeated disconnections, separate the 2.4GHz band in your router settings and connect the gateway to that network explicitly. Refer to Chapter 08 — Gateway Comparison in the Häfele Smart Locks Buyer's Guide for further guidance on gateway placement and network considerations.
Position the gateway where it has a reliable Zigbee signal to the lock and a reliable Wi-Fi signal to your router. For most Australian residential installations, a power point in the same room as, or adjacent to, the entry door is sufficient. Avoid placing the gateway inside metal enclosures or behind large metal appliances, as these can attenuate both Zigbee and Wi-Fi signals.
The current gateway is Cat. 985.03.024. The earlier Cat. 985.03.006 has been superseded. If you have an existing install specifying 985.03.006, the current 985.03.024 is the replacement. Confirm compatibility with Häfele Australia if you have any concerns about pairing the updated unit with an older lock installation.
The Häfele Smart Living App is capable of managing other Häfele smart home products beyond door locks — including doorbells, roller door controls, lighting, air conditioning, cameras, and blinds — where those products are also compatible with the Zigbee Gateway. Confirm which Smart Living App integrations are relevant to your installation with Häfele Australia.

How to Make a Claim
- Keep your proof of purchase (receipt or invoice) — this is required for all Häfele warranty claims.
- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries (including Gold Coast Smart Locks) in the first instance to assess the fault and initiate the claim process.
- If directed to engage Häfele directly, contact them on 1300 185 044 or email customercare@hafele.com.au.
- Häfele will determine whether the product will be repaired, replaced, or refunded at their discretion.
- Reasonable claim expenses are covered by Häfele. Retain any receipts for costs incurred and contact Häfele directly to arrange reimbursement.
Exclusions
This warranty will be voided if:
- The lock is not installed in accordance with Häfele's installation instructions, where that non-compliance gives rise to the fault.
- The lock is installed in an outdoor setting without cover, in direct contact with rain or harsh weather conditions.
- The lock is misused, abused, or operated contrary to the instructions contained in the owner's handbook.
- The lock is used for any purpose other than its intended use.
This warranty does not cover:
- Damage to surface coatings caused by cleaning or maintenance products not recommended in the owner's handbook.
- Defects caused by normal wear and tear, accident, negligence, alteration, or misuse.
- A product that has been dismantled, repaired, or serviced by anyone other than an authorised Häfele service agent.
- Consumable items such as batteries.
Important Notes
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. The benefits of this warranty are in addition to any other rights or remedies you may have under law.
- Repairs carried out under this warranty do not extend or reset the warranty period. The warranty period for any replacement parts fitted ends at the same time as the warranty for the entire product.
- Service call charges apply where a technician attends and the fault is found to be excluded by this warranty, or where the product is found to be in full operating condition — these costs are borne by the owner.
- Häfele offers ongoing service and maintenance agreements through their Service+ Assist program. Contact Häfele on 1300 185 044 or email customercare@hafele.com.au for details.
