The HID iCLASS SE Series R15 Reader (910NMNNEKMA001) is a mullion access control reader from HID, in black, with a 0.46 m pigtail lead. At 48 mm wide and 153 mm long it is made for door frames and mullions, and it will mount on any flat surface. It reads 13.56 MHz cards and fobs - Seos, iCLASS and SIO-encoded MIFARE - and sends them to the panel over Wiegand. There is no keypad.
It is a reader, not a standalone controller. It must be wired to an access control panel and fed from a 5 to 16 V DC supply - the panel decides who gets in and drives the lock. If you need a unit that controls a lock by itself, see the standalone options in the reader-only note below.
The R15 belongs to HID's iCLASS SE platform, so it is the one to pick when a site already runs iCLASS SE readers and wants a matching reader for another door, or a like-for-like replacement. It does not read 125 kHz proximity cards. Fitting out a new site? Compare the HID Signo 20, the Signo reader HID pairs with the R15, in the same mullion shape. The housing is IP55 rated for indoor or outdoor mounting and the reader carries the RCM mark for Australia and New Zealand.
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
The iCLASS SE R15 has no lock relay and holds no users of its own. It passes each card or fob to an access control panel, and the panel releases the electric strike, magnetic lock or other locking device. You also need a 5 to 16 V DC power supply and the cable run back to the panel - none of these are in the box. Looking for a unit that works on its own? The Neptune ACKPWB6K standalone keypad and the McGrath TGFP70 access control keypad both work as standalone keypads, and there are more in our keypads range. Not sure which way to go? Ask for a locksmith recommendation.
Access Methods
The R15 reads HID's secure 13.56 MHz credentials. It has no keypad and no fingerprint sensor, and it does not read 125 kHz proximity cards. The Credential Compatibility table below lists typical read ranges and the cards, fobs and tags we stock for it.
Credential Compatibility and Read Range
Read range depends on the credential as much as the reader. These are HID's typical figures for the R15, measured in open air - a metal mounting surface shortens them unless a spacer is fitted.
Programmed credentials are made to your site's card format, facility code and number range, so they need to match the system the reader is wired to. If your site is on HID's Elite program (site-specific keys), tell us before you order so the reader and credentials can be matched to it. HID's own figures are on page 2 of the iCLASS SE datasheet (PDF).
Key Features
- Mullion reader - 48 mm wide and 153 mm long, made for door frames and mullions, and at home on any flat surface.
- Secure 13.56 MHz credentials - Seos, iCLASS SE, iCLASS SR and iCLASS, plus MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire EV1 cards that carry HID's Secure Identity Object (SIO). See Credential Compatibility.
- Layered security - the SIO adds a layer of protection to the identity data beyond the security of the card itself, and binds that data to the credential.
- Keys held in secure hardware - cryptographic keys and operations are protected by an EAL5+ certified secure element, and the reader supports HID's iCLASS Elite program.
- Wiegand output for the access control panel.
- Wide supply range - the reader runs on anything from 5 to 16 V DC.
- Intelligent Power Management - an optional mode that cuts the current the reader draws.
- IP55 rated for indoor or outdoor mounting, rising to IP65 with HID's optional gasket.
- Optical tamper that signals the panel when the reader is taken off its backplate, plus an open collector output and a hold input.
- Field configurable - HID configuration cards change settings such as LED and beeper behaviour and the card number output.
- RCM marked for Australia and New Zealand, and covered by HID's lifetime reader warranty.

Suitable Uses
- Sites already running HID iCLASS SE readers that need a matching reader for another door, or a like-for-like replacement for a damaged one.
- Aluminium-framed and narrow-stile doors on a panel-based access control system - the 48 mm body sits on a door mullion or frame where a wall switch size reader will not fit. Check the frame first - see how to measure stile width.
- Office, tenancy and common-area doors where a card or fob is all that is wanted. See choosing a platform for commercial, office and retail sites.
- Panels with Wiegand reader inputs, on Seos, iCLASS or SIO-encoded MIFARE cards.
- External doors - the housing is IP55 rated for indoor and outdoor use, and HID recommends its optional gasket, which lifts the rating to IP65, for outdoor installation.
Standalone use without an access control panel - it cannot switch a lock on its own. Sites with 125 kHz proximity cards in use - the R15 will not read them; a Standard Profile HID Signo 20 reads both old and new. Doors that need a PIN - there is no keypad; use the Signo 20K keypad reader instead. Doors that need a fingerprint - see the RKLB40 biometric reader or our fingerprint range. Projects that must have OSDP or phone credentials as built - ask us first, or choose the HID Signo 20, which has both built in.
Available Finish Options
Black
(This Product)
STK 910NMNNEKMA001
Finish selection does not affect functionality, compliance, or performance. HID makes the iCLASS SE R15 in black only.
HID Reader Range
The R15 is one of three iCLASS SE readers we list. The five Signo models are shown beside them so you can compare shape, keypad and size.
This product is the bold row. HID names the Signo 20 in Standard Profile as the compatible Signo model for the iCLASS SE R15 - see page 2 of HID's Signo ordering guide (PDF). The Signo 20 is 45 mm wide and 121.5 mm long against the R15's 48 x 153 mm.
Accessories and Credentials
HID makes a mounting plate (6309-103-01), 12.7 mm reader spacers and an IP65 gasket kit (IP65GSKT-R15) for the R15. We do not list them, so contact us if you need one and we will match the right part. The two iCLASS SE accessories we do list are for other models and do not fit the R15: the RK40 IP65 gasket pack is for the RK40 keypad reader, and the R10 / RP10 mounting plate is sized for the shorter R10 and RP10.
Cards, fobs and tags we stock for it
125 kHz proximity credentials are not read by the R15. Programmed credentials need to match the system the reader is wired to - browse all RFID fobs, tags and cards, or contact us with your existing card details and we will match them.
Power, Wiring and Panel Connection
The reader runs from 5 to 16 V DC and connects to the panel through its 0.46 m pigtail lead. This part number is supplied for Wiegand. OSDP on an iCLASS SE reader depends on extra HID hardware inside the reader, so contact us before you order if your panel needs OSDP - every Signo reader speaks OSDP as built.
Pigtail colour code
- Wiring the reader incorrectly can permanently damage it - check every core before powering up.
- A low supply voltage shortens the cable run sharply. Keep the reader at 6.5 V DC or more for the full Wiegand distance.
- Optical tamper is on by default on most readers, but HID notes a configuration card may be needed to activate it. Test it at commissioning.
- The hold input either buffers a card read (the default) or disables reading until it is released, depending on configuration.
- Check that your panel's reader port is set for Wiegand, and for the card format your credentials carry, before the reader goes on the frame.
Full Specifications
Dimensions
The body is 48 mm wide, sized for a door mullion. Replacing an R15 with a HID Signo 20? The Signo is 45 x 121.5 x 19.5 mm - narrower and 31.5 mm shorter - so check what the smaller body will leave showing on the frame.
Installation and Setup
- Fix the backplate to the junction box or frame with the supplied screws - the 0.138-32 pair for an imperial junction box, the M3.5 x 12 mm pair for a metric one, or the two 1.5 inch screws straight into the surface.
- Wire the pigtail to the panel cable using the colour code above.
- Fit the reader - line up the top of the reader with the top of the backplate, then the bottom, and fix it with the standard screw or the anti-tamper security screw.
- Power up and test. The reader beeps three times and its light bar flashes three times at power-up. Present a card: the buzzer beeps and the LED flashes.
- On or near metal - including a metal junction box or an aluminium door frame - HID recommends a reader spacer. HID makes 12.7 mm spacers for the R15; contact us and we will match the right one.
- For outdoor installation HID recommends its IP65 mounting gasket, fitted with the backplate. The R15 kit is HID part IP65GSKT-R15; contact us to order it.
- The reader is static sensitive - handle it as you would any electronic board.
- On a mullion, check the cable route and the clearance inside the frame before you fix the backplate.
- Settings such as LED and beeper behaviour are changed with HID configuration cards. Contact us if your site needs one.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. It reads the card or fob and passes it to an access control panel, which makes the decision and releases the lock. You need a compatible panel with a Wiegand reader input and a 5 to 16 V DC supply. If you want one unit that does it all, look at a standalone keypad such as the Neptune ACKPWB6K or the McGrath TGFP70 instead.
Seos, iCLASS, iCLASS SE and iCLASS SR credentials, plus MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire EV1 cards that carry HID's Secure Identity Object. It does not read 125 kHz proximity cards. The Credential Compatibility table lists the ones we stock.
Ask us before you order. HID has sold iCLASS SE readers in more than one build, and whether a reader works with phones depends on the build. If phones are part of the plan, the HID Signo 20 has Bluetooth and NFC built in on every profile.
Yes. The housing is IP55 rated for indoor and outdoor use, and the reader works in heat up to +65 deg C. For an exposed position HID recommends its optional gasket, which lifts the rating to IP65, and a spacer if the surface is metal. Contact us for both.
Buy the R15 to match iCLASS SE readers you already have. For a new site compare the HID Signo 20: OSDP and phone credentials are built into every one, the housing is IP65 rated, and its Standard Profile also reads 125 kHz proximity cards. HID names the Signo 20 as the compatible Signo model for the R15.
Additional Information
- Check your cards before you order. The R15 reads 13.56 MHz HID credentials and will not read a 125 kHz proximity card. If you are not sure what your cards are, send us a photo of the card and any numbers printed on it.
- Elite sites: HID's iCLASS Elite program gives a site its own authentication keys. Tell us if your site is on it, so the reader and the credentials can be matched.
- Metal surfaces cut read range. HID's read range figures are measured in open air, and it recommends a plastic or ferrite spacer on a metal mounting surface.
- Size the power supply on the peak. HID's figures for the R15 are 60 mA standby, 95 mA maximum average and 200 mA peak, plus 40 mA where a reader carries an add-on hardware module. Allow 240 mA for each reader on a shared supply and you are covered either way.
- Planning a later move to Signo? The HID Signo 20 is smaller than the R15, so a swap can leave old fixing holes or an unpainted patch showing. Allow for that on painted or anodised frames.
Warranty
HID readers and credentials bought new through authorised channels are covered by HID Global's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship: lifetime cover on HID Signo, iCLASS SE and HID Proximity readers and on HID-branded Seos, iCLASS, Proximity, MIFARE DESFire and UHF cards, fobs and tags, and 2 years on iCLASS SE reader accessories. Proof of purchase required for all claims.

HID iCLASS SE R15 Reader - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you choose, wire, set up and live with the HID iCLASS SE R15 reader. For general questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for the bigger picture start with the Buyer's Guide.
Choosing the Right Reader
It is a mullion access control reader. It reads Seos, iCLASS and SIO-encoded MIFARE cards and fobs, then passes them to an access control panel over Wiegand. It is 48 mm wide, 153 mm long and 23 mm deep, runs on 5 to 16 V DC and is IP55 rated for indoor or outdoor mounting.
No. It has no relay to switch a lock and no user list of its own - it is one part of a wired access control system. The panel holds the users and releases the door. For a unit that works alone, see the Neptune ACKPWB6K standalone and Wiegand keypad, the McGrath TGFP70 access control keypad or the rest of our keypads.
They are two HID reader platforms. Every Signo reader has OSDP and phone credentials built in and an IP65 housing, and a Standard Profile Signo also reads 125 kHz proximity cards. The R15 suits a site that already runs iCLASS SE readers; for a new site, compare the HID Signo 20.
No. The R15 has no fingerprint sensor. HID's HID iCLASS SE RKLB40 biometric reader combines fingerprint, card and PIN in one wall mount unit, and there are standalone options in our fingerprint range.
Cards, Fobs and Compatibility
Seos, iCLASS SE, iCLASS SR and iCLASS, plus MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire EV1 cards that carry HID's Secure Identity Object (SIO). DESFire EV2 cards are read through their EV1 compatibility.
No. The R15 is a 13.56 MHz reader, so HID Prox, Indala, AWID and EM cards will not read. A Standard Profile Signo reader such as the HID Signo 20 reads both 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz credentials.
HID's typical figures for the R15 are 9 cm for an iCLASS card, 6 cm for a Seos, MIFARE Classic or MIFARE DESFire card, 4 cm for an iCLASS fob or tag and 3 cm for a MIFARE Classic fob or tag. They are measured in open air; a metal surface behind the reader shortens them.
Seos: Seos cards, Seos clamshell and ISO cards and the Seos key fob. iCLASS: iCLASS cards, the iCLASS key fob, the iCLASS tag and the iCLASS SE Key II fob. Programmed credentials are made to your site's format, so tell us what your system uses.
Only one of them. HID makes an EV3 compatibility card, base part 801, that carries the EV1-style SIO iCLASS SE readers look for. The other DESFire EV3 cards on our listing are for Signo readers. Check with us before you order.
Ask us before you order. HID has sold iCLASS SE readers in more than one build, and phone credentials depend on the build. Every Signo reader has Bluetooth and NFC built in.
It is HID's data model for the identity stored on a credential. The SIO adds a layer of protection to that data beyond the security of the card itself and ties it to the card it was issued on, which makes the data harder to copy to another card.
Power and Wiring
5 to 16 V DC. HID's figures are 60 mA on standby, up to 95 mA on average during continuous card reads and 200 mA at peak, plus 40 mA where a reader carries an add-on hardware module. Use a certified, power-limited supply.
It works with panels that take Wiegand readers. Tell us the panel make and model and we will confirm it before you order.
Not as supplied. This part number is the Wiegand reader. OSDP on an iCLASS SE reader depends on extra HID hardware inside the reader, so contact us if your panel needs it. Every Signo reader speaks OSDP as built.
For Wiegand, up to 152 m on 22 AWG cable with the reader at 6.5 to 16 V DC, or 91 m on 24 AWG. At 5 to 6.4 V DC the limit drops to 30.5 m on 22 AWG.
Red is positive, black is ground, green is Wiegand Data 0 and white is Wiegand Data 1. Orange and brown are the green and red LED inputs, yellow is the beeper input, blue is hold and violet is the open collector and tamper output. The full table is under Power, Wiring and Panel Connection.
It is optical. Once active, the output sinks to ground from its default 5 V DC when the reader is taken off its backplate. It is on by default on most readers, but HID notes a configuration card may be needed to activate it.
Installation and Mounting
A door mullion or frame, or any flat surface. The backplate fixes to an imperial or metric junction box, or straight to the surface with the two longer screws supplied.
HID recommends one when the reader is mounted on or near metal, including a metal junction box. HID makes 12.7 mm deep spacers for the R15. We do not list them, so contact us and we will match the right one.
No. The RK40 IP65 gasket pack is HID's kit for the RK40 keypad reader, and the R10 / RP10 mounting plate is sized for the shorter R10 and RP10. HID's R15 parts are the IP65GSKT-R15 gasket kit and the 6309-103-01 mounting plate - contact us for either.
Two 1.5 inch screws for fixing straight to a wall or frame, three 0.138-32 x 0.375 inch screws, two M3.5 x 12 mm screws for a metric junction box and one security screw. The HID 04-0001-03 security tool for that screw is not supplied.
A security installer or locksmith. The reader is one part of a wired system and has to be matched to the panel. An access control reader is a job for a security installer or locksmith - see when DIY is and is not appropriate, our advice and installation page and installation across the Gold Coast.
Setup and Configuration
With HID configuration cards. Presenting one changes settings such as the LED and beeper behaviour or the card number output. Contact us if your site needs one.
It beeps three times and its light bar flashes three times. When you then present a card, the buzzer beeps and the LED flashes.
It lets the panel pause the reader. When the line is asserted the reader either buffers a card read, which is the default, or stops reading until the line is released.
An optional operating mode that reduces the reader's current draw - 35 mA against 60 mA in standard mode, both measured at 16 V.
Weather, Care and Troubleshooting
IP55 covers dust and water jets, and HID rates the R15 for indoor and outdoor use. For a fully exposed position HID recommends its optional mounting gasket, which lifts the rating to IP65. See our guide to IP ratings.
Up to +65 deg C in operation, at 5 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. The cold limit is -35 deg C, or -25 deg C for a reader with HID's add-on wireless module. Long exposure to direct sun is hard on any electronic device - see how sunlight and heat affect lifespan.
First the card type - a 125 kHz proximity card will not read on this reader. Then the mounting: a metal surface with no spacer shortens the read range. If the reader reads the card but the door stays locked, look at the panel - the reader only passes the card on, and the panel decides.
Add up the peaks. Each R15 idles at 60 mA but can draw 200 mA at peak, and HID adds 40 mA for a reader with an add-on hardware module. Allowing 240 mA for every reader on the supply covers both.
Compliance and Warranty
Yes. HID lists the RCM mark for Australia and New Zealand among the iCLASS SE reader certifications, with UL294, FCC, IC and CE.
HID's lifetime warranty for iCLASS SE readers, against defects in materials and workmanship. Details are under Warranty.
Cryptographic keys and operations are held in an EAL5+ certified secure element inside the reader.

HID Warranty
HID branded readers, credentials and accessories are covered by warranties issued by HID Global Corporation and its affiliated entities (part of ASSA ABLOY), distributed in Australia by LSC. Most HID readers and HID-branded credentials carry lifetime cover; a small number of specific models and accessories carry a fixed term instead.
The summary below sets out HID's published warranty structure. All warranty claims are handled by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries. Full terms and exclusions are set out in the official HID Global Warranty Policy linked at the base of this page.
Warranty Summary
Understanding "Lifetime" Cover
HID's published policy uses the term "Lifetime Warranty Period" without defining it further - it is not stated as a fixed number of years, "for the life of the product", or "as long as you own it". It applies for as long as HID continues to honour that stated period under its published policy.
How to Make a Claim
- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries with your proof of original purchase and a description of the fault.
- Where a claim needs to be escalated, HID requires written notice from the end customer within the applicable warranty period - we handle this notification on your behalf.
- HID's remedy, at its own option, is to repair the product, replace it, or issue a credit towards a future purchase.
- Postage, insurance and shipping costs to present hardware for warranty assessment are the end customer's responsibility under HID's policy - we'll advise what's needed before anything is sent.
Exclusions
This warranty does not cover, and will be voided by, any of the following:
- Installation by anyone other than HID or an HID-authorised installer
- Use other than as authorised in HID's own documentation
- Modification, alteration or repair by a party other than HID
- Combination with hardware, operating systems or tools not provided by HID
- Accident, neglect, misuse or negligence
- Upgrades, evaluation units and demonstration units
- Consumables - batteries, paper, pads, cleaning solution, towels, cartridges and cables
Important Notes
This manufacturer warranty applies in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. Where a failure does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced.
HID's published policy states the warranty is solely for the benefit of the original end customer. Products purchased through Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites are covered as supplied - contact us in the first instance for any claim rather than approaching HID directly.
A small number of HID accessories (such as certain Signo mounting plates and wall spacers) are not individually named in HID's published policy. Where this applies, contact us to confirm the term that applies to your specific item before relying on the Lifetime cover shown above for readers.
