Yale Home Module with Door Sensor - Bluetooth and DoorSense Upgrade for Assure Locks
The Yale Home Module with Door Sensor (part number YD-MD01) is the small white module that turns a Yale Assure series lock from a keypad into a connected smart lock. It clips into the battery compartment at the back of the lock, and from that moment the lock talks to the Yale Home app over Bluetooth.
What it adds is substantial: app control, auto-lock and auto-unlock, 24/7 activity history, Apple HomeKit, and the DoorSense door position sensor that ships with it. That sensor mounts on the door jamb and tells the lock whether the door is genuinely closed, so it will not deadbolt into fresh air on a door left ajar. Add the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2 (sold separately) and remote access, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings come with it.
Every current Australian Assure lock we stock already includes a Yale Home Module in the box. If you are buying a new Assure deadbolt or Assure lever, you do not need this as well. Order this module when you are replacing a lost or faulty one, or upgrading an older Assure lock that shipped without one.

What the Module Adds
An Assure lock on its own is a keypad. The module is what makes it smart, and the Hub 2 is what makes it remote. Yale's own comparison sets the three tiers out clearly.

This module is for the Yale Assure series only. It will not fit or function in the Yale Unity Entrance, the Unity Slim, the Unity Security Screen Door lock or any other brand, all of which have their own built-in connectivity. It is also not a gateway - it provides Bluetooth at the lock, not remote access.

Yale Gateways and Modules
Three different jobs, routinely confused. The module gives the lock Bluetooth; the gateway gives the home remote access; the network module puts the lock on a third-party Zigbee hub instead.
Fitting and Compatibility
The module slots into a bay at the top of the battery compartment on the inside of an Assure lock. No tools beyond a screwdriver for the battery cover, and no change to the door.
- 1. Fit the module. Remove the interior battery cover and slide the module into its bay at the back of the Assure lock.
- 2. Fit the door sensor. Mount the supplied DoorSense sensor to the door jamb, opposite the lock, so it reads reliably from a normal close rather than a firm push.
- 3. Download the Yale Home app and pair the lock over Bluetooth.
- 4. Add a gateway later if you want remote access. The Connect Plus Hub 2 is optional and can be added at any time.
The Home Module and the Zigbee Network Module occupy the same bay in the lock and are mutually exclusive. You choose the Yale Home ecosystem or a third-party Zigbee system, not both. Fitting one means removing the other.
Yale Home App and Remote Access
The module pairs the lock to the Yale Home app, which is a free download for iOS and Android. Over Bluetooth, within range of the door, the app gives full lock control, guest code management, auto-lock and auto-unlock settings and the activity history.
Apple HomeKit works at the lock through the module and needs no gateway. Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings and worldwide remote access all require the Connect Plus Hub 2, which connects the lock to your home Wi-Fi. The hub is a separate purchase and can be added at any point.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Every current Australian Assure lock we stock includes a Yale Home Module in the box. Buy this module only to replace a lost or faulty one, or to upgrade an older Assure lock that shipped without one. If you are unsure which you have, check the interior battery compartment before ordering.
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. The module gives the lock Bluetooth, so the app works when your phone is near the door. Locking or checking the door from work or overseas needs the Connect Plus Hub 2 as well. Apple HomeKit is the exception - it works through the module alone.
DoorSense is the small sensor supplied with the module that mounts on the door jamb. It tells the lock whether the door is actually closed, as opposed to merely locked. Without it, auto-lock can throw the bolt while the door stands open, which looks secure in the app and is not. It is the reason this is a module with door sensor rather than a plain Bluetooth module.
No. There is one module bay in the lock, so the Home Module and the Zigbee Network Module are mutually exclusive. Choose the Yale Home ecosystem or a third-party Zigbee system. Fitting one means the other comes out.
No. The module draws power from the lock's own AA batteries. It will draw some current, so expect a modest reduction in battery life against the same lock running as a plain keypad - the trade for Bluetooth, DoorSense and the activity trail always being live.
Additional Information
- Module first, gateway later is a sensible order. Most owners find Bluetooth, auto-lock and the activity trail cover what they actually wanted, and only reach for a gateway when they need to let someone in while away. There is no penalty for adding the Hub 2 later.
- Get the DoorSense position right the first time. A sensor mounted too far from the lock, or on a door with an excessive jamb gap, produces a lock that reports the door as permanently ajar. That is a fitting problem, not a fault. See the misalignment guidance in Chapter 12.
- The Connect Plus Wi-Fi Bridge has been superseded. Older Yale packaging and documentation refer to a "Connect Plus Bridge". In Australia the current gateway is the Connect Plus Hub 2, and that is what to order for remote access on an Assure lock.
- A three-year software support commitment is published, not implied. ASSA ABLOY's Cyber Security declaration states a minimum three-year support period from the declaration date. That is worth weighing against unbranded smart modules, where no such commitment exists. Our note on platform lifespan covers why this matters.
- The Assure range is not the whole Yale smart lock range. If you are weighing an upgrade rather than a repair, the Unity Entrance and Unity Slim have Bluetooth and HomeKit built in with no module to fit or lose.

Do I need one, and which one
Take the interior battery cover off and look at the bay above the AA batteries. If a small white module is seated there, you have one. Current Australian Assure stock ships with it fitted or in the box; older locks and some overseas-market stock did not.
Three different jobs. The Home Module (this product) goes inside the lock and gives it Bluetooth and the Yale Home app. The Connect Plus Hub 2 plugs into a power point elsewhere in the house and gives the lock internet, which is what remote access and voice control need. The Zigbee Network Module replaces the Home Module in the same slot and puts the lock on a third-party Zigbee system instead of Yale Home.
No. Those locks are a different platform with Bluetooth and Apple HomeKit built in, and they have no module bay. The Home Module is for the Assure and Assure SL series only. If you own a Unity lock and want remote access, the answer is a Connect Plus Hub 2, not a module.
What it does and does not do
Because they connect differently. HomeKit talks to the lock over Bluetooth through the module, with your Apple home hub handling anything remote. Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings all reach the lock through Yale's cloud, and the lock has no way onto the internet without the Connect Plus Hub 2. Gateways are covered in Chapter 08.
Knowing who came and went, and when. In a family home it answers "did the kids get in from school". In a rental it confirms whether a cleaner or tradesperson attended. In a short-stay property it settles disputes. It is the feature owners rarely buy the lock for and end up using most.
No. The module adds connectivity, not credentials. The lock's own keypad and mechanical key remain the physical ways in, and the app adds virtual keys and guest codes. Fingerprint and RFID are properties of the lock, not the module, and the Assure range does not offer them.
Setup, power and support
Minutes rather than hours. Battery cover off, module into its bay, cover back on, sensor onto the jamb, app downloaded and paired. The step worth taking slowly is the door sensor position - everything else is quick and reversible.
Somewhat, and that is expected. A Bluetooth radio and a door sensor that are always listening draw more than a keypad sitting idle. It is a fair trade for what they enable. If battery life falls well below expectation, look at the mechanical fit first - a bolt that drags, or a DoorSense sensor misreading and keeping the lock busy, costs far more than the radio does.

This warranty applies to genuine Yale products purchased new in Australia from ASSA ABLOY or its authorised resellers. It operates in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

- Keep your proof of original purchase (invoice or receipt).
- Contact Gold Coast Smart Locks - operated by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries - as your authorised retailer, and follow the steps on our Returns & Warranty page.
- Return the product securely packed to protect it in transit, together with your proof of purchase and your name, address, email and phone number.
- ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim. Where the warranty applies, they will (at their option) repair the product, replace it with the same or closest equivalent Yale product, or refund the price you paid.
Claims made directly to ASSA ABLOY require a Case Number from their Customer Service Department before goods are returned - products sent back without a Case Number may not be accepted. Costs of returning a product are the customer's responsibility.
What Is Not Covered
- Normal wear and tear.
- Misuse, abuse, accident, or use outside Yale's published technical specifications.
- Improper maintenance or neglect, or failure to follow ASSA ABLOY's care and maintenance recommendations.
- Use of batteries other than those specified; batteries themselves are not covered.
- Unauthorised alteration, modification or repair by anyone other than ASSA ABLOY authorised personnel.
- Custom orders made to components or specifications supplied by someone other than ASSA ABLOY.
- Goods that were not new when purchased, second-hand goods, or products not originally sold in Australia through ASSA ABLOY or an authorised reseller.
- Products with brands, marks, plates, numbers or other ASSA ABLOY information defaced or removed.
- Use of substitute, replacement or non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or cylinders.
- Corrosive exposure, including vapours, chemicals, abrasive compounds, contamination, pollution, coastal air, salt spray and high humidity.
- Removal, refitment or replacement of products, and any associated charges.
Important Notes
Batteries are consumable and are not covered. Cosmetic finishes and appearance are excluded. Stainless steel resists staining but is not stain-proof - tea staining is a natural process and is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
Damage from salt spray, coastal air, high humidity and other corrosives is excluded. In Gold Coast and coastal locations, choose a suitable finish and follow the care and maintenance guidance to protect your hardware and preserve your cover.
Your Rights Under the Australian Consumer Law
This manufacturer's warranty is in addition to other rights and remedies you may have under the law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
