ASSA ABLOY SMARTair Knob Cylinder - Wireless Online + Openow, HID iCLASS, IP56 - SNZB43X030E10MI

The ASSA ABLOY SMARTair Knob Cylinder in the Wireless Online + Openow tier (SNZB43X030E10MI) is the top model in the SMARTair knob cylinder range. It replaces the mechanical cylinder in an existing door and reads HID iCLASS RFID credentials and Openow smartphone keys over Bluetooth Low Energy.

Wireless Online devices communicate with the TS1000 management software in real time through SMARTair communication hubs - each hub covers up to 30 doors within 30 m - so access rights, monitoring and alerts update live without anyone walking a card to the door.

This model carries an IP56 environmental rating in a black finish and is battery powered. If real-time monitoring is not required, the Update-on-Card + Openow cylinder is a lower-cost option on the same platform.

Cylinder Profiles

The SMARTair electronic knob cylinder is offered in several profiles so it can replace the existing mechanical cylinder in most door types. Confirm the profile your door uses before ordering:

  • Din Double cylinder - credential operation both sides.
  • Din Double thumbturn cylinder - credential outside, thumbturn inside.
  • Din Half cylinder - single-sided.
  • Din Oval e-cylinder.
  • Australian Din Oval e-cylinder - for Australian-profile hardware.

The cylinder suits all common door types and is engineered for greater attack resistance while remaining lightweight and robust.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Wireless Online give me over Update-on-Card?
Real time. Wireless Online cylinders talk to the TS1000 software live through SMARTair communication hubs (each hub covers up to 30 doors within 30 m), so rights changes, monitoring and alerts take effect immediately - nobody has to walk a card to an update point. Compare connectivity approaches in our gateway comparison chapter.
How does Openow smartphone access work?
Openow turns an iOS or Android phone into a secure digital key over Bluetooth Low Energy. Virtual keys are issued and cancelled over the air from the SMARTair software, so access can be granted or revoked without handing over a card.
Will it work with the iCLASS cards my site already uses?
This cylinder reads HID iCLASS credentials, so it suits sites already standardised on iCLASS. The reader technology must match the credential platform in use - if your site runs MIFARE or another technology, talk to us before ordering. Our access methods chapter explains the credential technologies.
Will it fit my existing door and lock?
The cylinder is made in Din Double, Din Double thumbturn, Din Half, Din Oval and Australian Din Oval profiles - confirm which profile your door hardware uses before ordering (see Cylinder Profiles above). The door type guide helps you check your door.
Is it weather rated for external doors?
This model is rated IP56. Note the rating varies across the range - Standalone and Wireless Online cylinders are IP56, while the Update-on-Card tiers are IP55 - so check the comparison table if you are ordering several tiers.

Additional Information

IP ratings vary across the knob cylinder range.
Standalone and Wireless Online models are IP56; the Update-on-Card tiers are IP55. Check the IP Rating column in the model comparison table before specifying a mixed-tier site.
A retrofit that keeps the door intact.
Because the electronics live in the cylinder, the existing lock body can often stay in place and nothing is drilled or cabled through the door. Lost credentials are cancelled digitally rather than rekeying. Browse the full range of cylinders and barrels for smart locks.
Credentials and commissioning.
Physical credentials are written with the SMARTair USB encoder; doors are commissioned with the portable programmer; the system runs on TS1000 with SMARTair communication hubs, and Openow mobile keys are enabled with an Openow mobile access licence. A TS1000 Lockdown upgrade is available for emergency lockdown control.
Professional installation is recommended.
SMARTair is a managed access control platform, and cylinder profile, door condition and commissioning all affect the result. See our advice and installation page, or read about site surveys and installation on the Gold Coast.
Stock varies across the range.
This model is normally stocked and usually ships in 3 business days, but several sibling tiers are special-order items on longer lead times - check the comparison table when ordering a mixed set.

Deeper questions and answers for the SMARTair knob cylinder range. For platform-wide questions see the Smart Lock FAQ chapter and the Smart Lock Buyers Guide.

Choosing a SMARTair Management Tier

Which SMARTair management tier do I need?
It depends on how often access rights change and how quickly changes must reach the door. Standalone is programmed at each cylinder and suits small, simple sites. Update-on-Card carries rights on the credential, refreshed at update points - strong control without networking every door. Wireless Online adds live, real-time updates and monitoring through communication hubs. Openow adds smartphone keys to the UOC and Wireless tiers. This page is the Wireless Online + Openow cylinder; the model comparison table on the main description links every tier in the family.
What is the difference between Wireless Online and Openow?
They solve different problems. Wireless Online is system architecture - the cylinder talks to the management software in real time through wireless hubs. Openow is a credential - the smartphone acts as a secure digital key over Bluetooth Low Energy. A SMARTair product can support one, both or neither depending on the model: Wireless Online is the infrastructure, Openow is the way a user opens the door.
What infrastructure does Wireless Online need?
SMARTair communication hubs wired back to the TS1000 system - each hub covers up to 30 doors within 30 m of the hub. The cylinders themselves stay wire-free and battery powered; only the hubs are fixed infrastructure.

Credentials and Smartphone Access

What is the difference between MIFARE and HID iCLASS?
They are different RFID credential technologies used in commercial access control. MIFARE is widely used across many access systems; HID iCLASS is common in enterprise and institutional systems built around HID credentials. The reader must match the credential platform already on site - this cylinder reads HID iCLASS, so if your building runs on another technology, talk to us before ordering.
How are credentials issued and cancelled?
Physical iCLASS credentials are written with the SMARTair USB encoder and managed through the TS1000 software. A lost card is cancelled digitally - no locksmith visit, no rekeying, and the cylinder stops accepting that credential.
How do I set up and use Openow on my phone?
Download the Openow app from the App Store or Google Play, register with your email address and verify it, and your virtual key arrives over the air. At the door, open the app and hold the phone to the cylinder. The app supports multiple facility keys and can be protected with a security PIN. The Openow User Guide (PDF) walks through the steps.
What do the padlock colours in the Openow app mean?
Green means the door opened. Orange means the app could not connect to the lock - try again in a moment. Red means no access: the key has no rights on that door, the door is blocked, or you are outside your permitted time schedule.

Fitting and Installation

Which cylinder profile do I order?
The one your existing hardware uses. The range covers Din Double (credential both sides), Din Double thumbturn (credential outside, thumbturn inside), Din Half (single-sided), Din Oval and Australian Din Oval profiles. If you are not sure which profile your door has, send us a photo of the door edge and the existing cylinder before ordering.
Does anything get wired or drilled through the door?
No. The electronics and battery live in the cylinder itself, so the door is not cabled and the existing lock body can often stay in place. That is the core retrofit advantage of the format - see the door type guide for checking your door.
Who should install and commission it?
A locksmith or access control installer familiar with SMARTair. Cylinder profile, door condition and commissioning against the management system all affect the result - see our advice and installation page or read about site surveys on the Gold Coast. The installation and troubleshooting chapter covers common issues.

Managing the System

What software runs a SMARTair site?
The TS1000 management software (with a web manager option) is the platform hub - it manages users, credentials, schedules and doors across every SMARTair device type, from this knob cylinder to i-max escutcheons, wall readers and i-gate padlocks.
Does the cylinder keep an audit trail?
Yes. Openings and credential activity are available through the SMARTair software platform, which is one of the main reasons sites step up from mechanical keys - you can see who opened what, and when.
Can Wireless Online doors be locked down in an emergency?
The TS1000 platform offers a Lockdown upgrade that adds emergency lockdown control across wireless doors - a genuine consideration for schools and healthcare sites choosing the Wireless Online tier.
What happens when someone loses a credential?
Cancel it in the software and issue a replacement - the lost card stops working and there is no rekeying. How fast the cancellation reaches the door depends on the tier: immediately on Wireless Online, at the next update point on Update-on-Card, and at the cylinder on Standalone.
