Austyle 49425 Sliding Door Entrance Lock - 28mm Backset - Satin Stainless Steel
The Austyle 49425 is the 304 stainless steel mortice body for sliding and security screen doors. It has a 28mm backset with 85mm centre-to-centre spacing and dual locking bolts, and it exists because a shallow aluminium stile will not take a standard 60mm mortice and a single bolt engagement is not enough security on a sliding panel.
It pairs with one lever set: the Austyle 59407 Digital Lever Entrance Set. The 59407 is the narrow-profile digital lever built for aluminium doors, and the 49425 is one of the three mortice bodies Austyle publishes for it. The 59407 arrives with a 30mm mortice as standard - this body is the sliding-door alternative, bought separately.
It will not work with the 59405 or 59406 lever sets, which use the 60mm 49429 entrance mortice instead. Confirm the door and the lever set before ordering - the mortice selection table below sets the three side by side.

- One host lever set only. Confirmed by Austyle for the 59407. Not listed for the 59405 or 59406 - do not assume interchangeability across the range.
- Also suits aluminium hinged doors with a shallow backset, where the preparation measures 28mm rather than 30mm or 60mm.
Mortice Selection - Which Lock Body Do You Need?
The 59407 takes three different mortice bodies, and the difference between them is backset. They are not interchangeable and the door has to be measured before ordering. How to measure a backset is a two-minute read, and what happens when it is wrong explains why it is worth doing first.
Austyle confirms the 49425 for the 59407 only. It is not listed for the 59405 or 59406, which take the 60mm 49429. Sharing a lever range is not the same as sharing a door preparation - a wrong backset means a door that has already been cut. See the backset mistake.

Measure from the door edge to the centre of the spindle hole. 28mm is this body; 30mm is the 49421 included with the 59407; 60mm is the 49429. On a sliding aluminium door the answer is usually 28mm simply because the stile is too shallow for anything deeper. How to measure a backset covers the method.
A sliding panel is held by its track, not by a frame, so a single bolt gives an intruder one point to work against and a light aluminium sash to lever. Two engagement points spread that load and make the panel much harder to spring. It is the same reasoning behind multi-point locking on any sliding door. See choosing bolt throw.
No. This is the mortice body alone. Cylinder, strike and all fixing hardware are supplied with the 59407 lever set.
Not for this body. Austyle publishes 1:1 templates for the 49429 and the 49421, and a door preparation template for the 59407 lever itself, but not one for the 49425. On a sliding door you are almost always fitting into an existing preparation anyway, so measure what is there rather than cutting to a drawing.
Additional Information
On aluminium sliding and screen doors the limiting measurement is the stile, not the door thickness. If the stile is too shallow the body will not seat regardless of what the lever set can handle. Stile width and screen door clearance are both worth a look before ordering.
Sliding doors are usually the ones opening onto a deck or a courtyard, which means more weather and, on the coast, more salt. A mortice inside an aluminium stile gets very little air. 304 stainless is there so the body still throws cleanly in five years, not for appearance - nobody ever sees it.
Dual bolts mean two things to align, not one, and sliding doors move in their tracks over time. If the bolts are stiff, check the receiver alignment and the track before suspecting the body. On hinged doors an extended striker - 85mm or 125mm - is often the answer; on a slider it is usually adjustment. Misalignment covers the diagnosis.
A mis-cut in a timber door can often be packed or plugged. A mis-cut in an aluminium stile usually means a new door leaf. Sliding and security screen doors have their own set of constraints, and most of them come down to how little material there is to work with. Our measuring your door chapter and the door type compatibility chapter are the background reading.
Door Type and Fit
Because there is less door. An aluminium sliding stile is a narrow extrusion, not a solid timber edge, so there is nowhere to put a 60mm body. A 28mm backset keeps the lock inside the material that actually exists. The same constraint drives the whole narrow-frame lock category. See also stile width.
It is listed for sliding and security screen applications on the 59407. The thing to check first is clearance - a screen door sits close to the main door and a lever that fouls the frame is a common and avoidable surprise. Yes, where the preparation is 28mm. The 49425 is not exclusively a sliding door part - it is a shallow-backset part, and some hinged aluminium doors are cut that way. What decides it is the measurement, not the door style. Browse sliding, screen and glass door locks for the wider range.
Security and Operation
On a sliding panel it is genuinely better. The weakness of a slider is that the panel can be flexed or lifted, and a single bolt gives one pivot to work against. Two spread the load and remove the easy lever point. On a solid hinged timber door the argument is much weaker - there a single well-thrown bolt into a sound jamb is fine. Track and alignment first. Sliding doors drop and drift over time, and two bolts mean two things that have to meet their receivers. Check the door runs true, then the receiver positions, then the lock. Filing a receiver to make it fit is a short-term fix that usually comes back. Troubleshooting works through it.
The 59407 lever set, not this body. Fingerprint, PIN, RFID, Bluetooth and a mechanical key override all live in the lever. If you want remote access as well, the lock needs the 59419 WiFi gateway hub - the 59407 has no built-in WiFi.

- Installation on tongue-and-groove doors, where water can penetrate through the groove
- Installation on gates
- Prolonged direct exposure to sunlight or rain - the lock must be positioned under an eave or in a sheltered area
- Damage caused by use of lithium or rechargeable batteries - only high-quality alkaline AA batteries (4 x AA) are supported
