The BDS LB22 is a galvanised (zinc plated) steel lock box made to suit the Borg 5000 series digital locks with a 60mm backset. It gives a mechanical digital lock a housing on a steel gate where the stile or post cannot take the lock, or cannot be morticed at all. The box measures 202mm wide, 200mm high and 35mm deep. It is welded to the gate frame, which is why it suits steel gates only. It is the larger of the two BDS boxes we list for Borg digital locks, and the BDS LB21 is its 2000 series counterpart. The LB22 is fixed by welding it to the gate frame, not by bolting or screwing it on, and steel cannot be welded to aluminium, so it will not go on an aluminium gate. We don't weld in-house: the gate comes off and goes to a local welding shop, or you arrange the weld yourself. On an aluminium frame, look instead at a short backset latch such as the Borg 28mm latch for the BL5000 series, the workshop mounting options, or the Carbine Gate Guard if you are fitting a Carbine CDL7100.

For an aluminium frame, look at a short backset mortice latch such as the Borg 28mm latch for the BL5000 series, the packing plate and scar plate workshop options, or the Carbine Gate Guard, a mechanically fixed mounting box for the Carbine CDL7100. Is a Lock Box Right for Your Gate?
It gives a Borg 5000 series digital lock with a 60mm backset a steel housing on a steel gate where the stile or post cannot take the lock, or cannot be morticed at all. It is the prefabricated box mounting option in our narrow gate guide, made in galvanised (zinc plated) steel with a Silver finish.
Measure the stile rather than the post. If the stile is 50 x 50mm or 65 x 65mm, a 60mm backset latch will not physically fit it. Fitting and Welding
No, welding isn't done in-house. The gate is taken off and goes to a local welding shop, or you arrange the weld yourself. We can advise on the lock and box before the gate goes, and our qualified locksmith recommendation can confirm which Borg model you have.
It is made as a weld-on box: the fixing is a weld to the gate frame, not a bolt-on or screw-fixed bracket. Where welding is not possible, the Carbine Gate Guard is a mounting box with mechanical fixing for the Carbine CDL7100, and our packing plate mounting block example shows a workshop approach.
They are the overall size of the box: 202mm wide, 200mm high and 35mm deep, with a 60mm backset. The 35mm is the box's depth, not a door or gate thickness. You can see the box drawn with these figures on PDF page 34 of the BDS catalogue, next to the LB21 at 92 x 175 x 30mm.

Other Ways to Lock a Narrow Gate
It is one of the four options. Option 1 is a 28mm short backset mortice latch, and for this series that is the Borg 28mm latch for the BL5000 series. The latch is morticed into the stile, and handing matters on short backset latches, so check your gate's handing before ordering.
Option 2 is a gate lock that clamps onto the stile, such as the Borg BL3400GATE with a single keypad or the BL3430GATE with back-to-back keypads. It is a different lock from the 5000 series, so it suits a gate where you are choosing the lock as well.
Option 4 covers a packing plate mounting block, scar plates bridging the stile and modifying the gate to take a 60mm latch. The Borg scar plates made for the 5000 series are SPBL5001.
