The BDS LB21 is a galvanised steel lock box made to suit the Borg 2000 series of mechanical digital locks, the range that includes the Borg BL2000SC. It gives a 60mm backset Borg keypad lock a housing on a gate where the stile or post is too narrow to take the latch, or cannot be morticed at all. LB21 is fixed by welding it to the gate frame, not by bolts or screws, and steel cannot be welded to aluminium, so it cannot go on an aluminium gate. Terry's does not do welding in-house: the gate comes off and goes to a local welding shop, or you arrange the weld yourself. No. LB21 is fixed by welding, and steel cannot be welded to aluminium, so it suits steel gates only. On an aluminium frame, the Carbine Gate Guard for CDL7100 is a mounting box that fixes mechanically, although it means using that Carbine lock instead of a Borg. Other routes for an aluminium frame are a short backset mortice latch or a workshop method from Option 4 of our narrow gate guide, such as a packing plate mounting block or scar plates that bridge the stile.
A welder, not Terry's. We don't do welding in-house, so the gate comes off and goes to a local welding shop, or you arrange the weld yourself. Is a Lock Box Right for Your Gate?
When the gate stile or post is too narrow to take the latch, or cannot be morticed at all, and you want to keep a Borg 2000 series keypad lock. A 60mm latch needs more room than a 50 x 50mm or 65 x 65mm stile can give (what backset actually means), so LB21 gives the lock a steel housing instead. That is Option 3, prefabricated box mounting.
No. It is welded to the gate frame, and steel cannot be welded to aluminium, so LB21 suits steel gates only. For aluminium, the Carbine Gate Guard for CDL7100 fixes mechanically (it is made for that Carbine lock), and a lock with a 28mm short backset latch, such as the Borg BL2002SC, is another route. Measure the stile, not the post (why the difference matters). The narrow group is 50 x 50mm and 65 x 65mm sections. Fitting and Welding
No. Welding is not done in-house at Terry's. The gate comes off and goes to a local welding shop, or you arrange the weld yourself. Before the gate comes off, compare the other narrow gate routes in What Fits What in case another suits your gate better.
They are the box size: 92mm wide, 175mm high and 30mm deep. The 30mm is the depth of the box, not a door or gate thickness. The 60mm in the name is the backset the box is set out for (what is backset?).
LB21 is set out for a 60mm backset. That is the latch size a narrow stile cannot take. If your lock has a 28mm short backset latch, you are on a different route altogether (Option 1, short backset mortice latch). Chapter 02: Backset and how to measure your backset help you check.

The Borg 2000 series. On our store that series includes the Borg BL2000SC (Satin Chrome) and Borg BL2000PB (Polished Brass) knob and medium lever locks and the Borg BL2000KSCNEW keypad only unit. Other Ways to Lock a Narrow Gate
A lock with a 28mm latch instead of a 60mm one. Borg locks with the 28mm latch include the BL2002SC, the BL2202SC with holdback and the BL2702SCECP with key override, and the latch is also sold on its own as BLS272000LH (left hand) and BLS272000RH (right hand). Read Option 1 first, and note that handing matters on short backset latches.
A gate lock that clamps onto the stile, such as the Borg BL3400 with a single keypad or the Borg BL3430 with back-to-back keypads. Option 2, a forend fixing system explains how it works on a narrow stile.
Option 4, get creative gives three examples: a packing plate mounting block, scar plates to bridge the divide, with plates such as the Borg scar plates for the 2000 and 4000 series, or modifying the gate to take a 60mm latch.
The TML25DGT mortice magnetic gate latch body, made by Trencab and listed in our BDS range, suits Borg 2000 and 4000 series keypads and is used on narrow stiles. It is a different product from the magnetic pool safety latches used on pool barrier gates (two very different products, one name). Be aware that about half of our magnetic latch installations have needed a return visit to realign (our field numbers), which is why we prefer the 28mm latch.
