Borg 2000/4000 Series Polymer Spacer (Packer) Plate - Black - 180 x 65mm - 5 Thicknesses
The Borg 2000/4000 Series Polymer Spacer (Packer) Plate (BLV4000X) is a black polymer packing plate designed and manufactured by Terry's Locksmiths to give a Borg mechanical digital lock a flat, solid mounting surface where the gate or door frame does not provide one. It is cut to the keypad footprint of the Borg 2000 and 4000 Series - 180mm high by 65mm wide, with two round fixing holes and a rectangular spindle slot in the keypad's positions - and comes in five thicknesses from 3mm to 12mm, so you can pack the keypad out by the amount the job needs and stack plates where more depth is required.
We make these plates because so many Borg locks go on gates. Aluminium and steel gate frames are hollow sections, often narrower than the keypad, so the lock has nothing flat and solid to sit against; a packer plate bridges the void and spreads the load, and because it is polymer it can be cut down or modified on site to suit the frame - the technique we use on our own gate installs, shown below. This plate suits every Borg 2000 Series lock and every 4000 Series gate lock we stock (the full list is under Compatible Borg Locks). Borg 5000 Series locks take the larger Borg 5000 Series Polymer Spacer (Packer) Plate instead.
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
The holes and slot are cut for the 2000 Series keypad body and the 4000 Series gate locks built on it. A Borg 5000 Series lock (BL5001, BL5051, BL5201MG, the BL5401 DDA levers and BL5701, and the rest of that platform) has a longer keypad and takes the Borg 5000 Series Polymer Spacer (Packer) Plate. Not sure which series you have? The model number on the lock starts with BL2 or BL4 for this plate, BL5 for the other.
Gate Mounting - Building Out the Surface with Packer Plates
A gate stile is rarely a solid block of material the size of a Borg keypad. Hollow aluminium and steel sections, open bar work, mesh infill and narrow stiles all leave the keypad short of a flat face to pull up against, and the lock's fixing bolts end up carrying the load on a thin wall or across a gap. The fix we use on our own installs is to build the surface out: stack packer plates to the depth the lock needs, cut them to the shape of the frame, and fix the keypad through the stack so it sits on a solid, flat block.
- Stack plates to reach the depth or build-out required - the five thicknesses can be combined in any order
- Cut, notch or drill the plates on site so the stack follows the frame section and clears bars, mesh or hinges
- The lock's own fixing bolts and spindle pass through the holes and slot, so the stack is clamped between the keypad and the frame; plates can also be screwed to the frame first to form a fixed mounting block
- Polymer will not rust or corrode on an outdoor gate, and the black plate sits unobtrusively behind the keypad
The full technique, with the three other ways to deal with a narrow gate frame, is in our blog Gate Post Too Narrow for a 60mm Latch? - this plate is Example 1, the packing plate mounting block.
Key Features
- Builds out a flat, solid mounting surface for a Borg 2000 or 4000 Series keypad on hollow, open or narrow gate frames - or packs a keypad off any face that needs it
- Cut to the 2000/4000 Series keypad footprint - 180 x 65mm, with the two fixing holes and the spindle slot in the keypad's positions
- Five thicknesses - 3mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm - chosen at checkout and stackable to the depth the lock needs
- Polymer construction - will not rust or corrode outdoors, and cuts, notches and drills on site with ordinary tools
- Black, so it sits unobtrusively behind the keypad - a natural match for the black Marine Grade Pro Borg locks
- Designed and manufactured by Terry's Locksmiths, from the way we mount Borg locks on gates ourselves
- A different job from a scar plate - a scar plate covers old holes on the face of the door; a packer plate builds the surface out behind the keypad (we stock both)
What's in the Box
- 1 x Borg 2000/4000 Series Polymer Spacer (Packer) Plate, black polymer, 180 x 65mm, in the thickness chosen at checkout
Sold as a single plate. No fixings are supplied - the lock's own fixing bolts and spindle pass through the plate. Order more than one plate, in the same or different thicknesses, to build a deeper stack.
Suitable Uses
- Mounting a Borg 2000 or 4000 Series lock on a gate - see our external gate locks and the gate section of our mechanical digital locks guide
- Hollow aluminium or steel gate sections, open bar gates, mesh and perforated panels, and narrow gate stiles where the keypad overhangs the frame
- Packing a keypad out to clear a hinge, a raised frame member, mesh infill or a cladding step so the keypad and the inside plate sit square to each other
- Building a mounting block for a back-to-back gate lock where both keypads need a solid face - the BL4441MGPROECP install pictured above
- Any timber, steel or aluminium door where a Borg 2000/4000 Series keypad has to be packed off the face - the plate is not limited to gates

Thickness Options - Item Codes
Choose the thickness at checkout. Every thickness is the same 180 x 65mm plate with the same holes and slot; only the depth changes. Combine plates to reach a build-out the single sizes do not give - 3mm and 8mm for 11mm, 6mm and 10mm for 16mm, and so on.

Frequently Asked Questions
Whenever the gate or door does not give the keypad a flat, solid face the size of its own footprint: a hollow or open section, a stile narrower than the keypad, mesh or bar infill, or a frame member that sits in a different plane from where the lock has to go. Stacking plates builds the surface out to the depth the lock needs so the fixing bolts clamp against something solid - the packing plate mounting block in our narrow gate frame guide. On a plain timber or sheet-steel gate with a solid face the width of the keypad, you do not need one.
Measure the build-out you need between the back of the keypad and the solid part of the frame, then choose the plate or combination of plates that fills it - the 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12mm plates can be stacked in any combination. If you are not sure, order two or three sizes; they are inexpensive, and a plate that is too thick can be trimmed. Better still, send us photos of the gate and we will tell you what the job needs.
Yes - that is the point of a polymer plate. Cut it with a fine-tooth hand saw, jigsaw or bandsaw, drill it with ordinary HSS bits and clean the edges with a file or sandpaper. We cut them to suit the fixtures and the gate on every install. Keep the two fixing holes and the spindle slot intact where the keypad sits, and cut the rest of the plate to follow the frame.
It fits every Borg 2000 Series lock and every 4000 Series gate lock, and their replacement keypads - the full list is under Compatible Borg Locks. It does not fit the Borg 5000 Series (BL5001, BL5051, BL5201MG, the BL5401 DDA levers, BL5701 and the rest of that platform), which takes the longer Borg 5000 Series Polymer Spacer (Packer) Plate.
It can, so add it up first. The plates add to the total thickness the keypad's fixing bolts and spindle must span, exactly as a thicker door would, and most Borg 2000 Series locks are supplied for doors 35mm to 54mm thick - a 50mm stile with a single 6mm plate is already 56mm. The 4000 Series gate locks go further (80mm or more); the door range is in the Specifications on each lock's page. Past the standard range, the 2000 Series takes the BL2000L long spindle or, for deeper builds, the BLS227A XXL extended spindle kit for doors up to 120mm thick - order it with the plates rather than finding out on the gate. Contact us if the total is unusual.
