Borg BL2301 Mechanical Digital Lever Lock - Satin Chrome
The Borg BL2301SC is a fully mechanical pushbutton lever lock designed for internal doors where a lever handle is preferred over a knob. It shares the same 2000 Series tumbler-based pushbutton mechanism as the BL2001 — no battery, no electronics, no power required — but replaces the exterior knob with a clutching lever handle that remains disengaged until the correct code is entered.
The clutching lever is a key security distinction: the lever handle spins freely if someone attempts to operate it without entering the code first. Only after the correct combination is pressed does the lever clutch and allow the latch to retract. The inside lever is free at all times for immediate egress without a code.
The BL2301SC also includes a holdback function on the inside handle — the lever can be held in the open position after entering the code, keeping the door unlocked for continuous access. The holdback can be removed from the inside handle if this feature is not required. The lock is an ideal retrofit upgrade for existing BL2000-style or competitor equivalent 2000-series installations where lever operation is required.

Installing on a narrow aluminium gate frame?
Planning to mount a Borg 2000 or 4000 series on an external gate with a 50mm × 50mm (or larger) aluminium frame?
Worried if the standard 60mm latch included in the box will fit?
You’re right — it won’t.
To get this lock working properly on gate frames, you’ll need the correct latch with a shorter 28mm backset.

How to Change the Code
The code is changed by physically rearranging the red coded tumblers inside the keypad. The lock must be removed from the door. Keep the keypad face-down at all times during this process and take extra care when removing the cover plate — 14 small springs sit behind it.
- Remove the lock from the door by unscrewing the two screws at the top and bottom of the inside handle.
- Turn the keypad face-down on a flat surface. Remove the red retaining screws to release the cover plate over the coding chamber.
- You will see: red coded tumblers (4-5), blue un-coded tumblers, and one clear C tumbler. Never remove the C tumbler.
- Press and hold the C button. Use the tweezers to rearrange the red and blue tumblers into your new code positions.
- All square cut-outs must face outwards. For positions 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, Z: square cut-out faces left, dimple faces down. For positions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, X, Y: square cut-out faces right, dimple faces up.
- Replace the cover plate and secure with the red screws.
- Test the new code 3-4 times before refitting the lock to the door. Test once more after closing.
Spare tumblers are included to increase the code length to 6-7 digits or reduce to 3-4 digits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the BL2301 and the BL2001?
The BL2301 uses a lever handle on both faces instead of a knob. The exterior lever is a clutching lever — it spins freely until the correct code is entered. The BL2001 uses a knob on the outside that only turns when the code is entered. The BL2301 also includes a holdback function on the inside handle; the BL2001 does not. Both locks use the same underlying tumbler mechanism and code change procedure.
What is the holdback function and can I remove it?
The holdback snib on the inside handle allows the lever to be held in the open position after entering the code, keeping the latch retracted so the door can open and close freely without requiring the code each time. To activate holdback, turn the inside lever 90° and push the snib across. To release, apply slight pressure to the lever and push the snib back. If the holdback is not needed, the snib assembly can be removed from the inside handle — a holdback snib blank is included in the box to fill the hole.
Can this lock be used externally?
The BL2301SC is rated for internal use only. For external applications, consider the Borg BL2107 Marine Grade deadbolt or other externally rated Borg models.
Can the code be entered in any order?
Yes. The BL2000 series uses non-sequential code entry — the buttons can be pressed in any order. If the code is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 — pressing 5, 1, 3, 2, 4 is equally valid, as long as all correct digits have been pressed before operating the lever.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
