The Borg BL3430DKOGATE is a fully mechanical back-to-back keypad gate lock from Borg's purpose-built gate lock family - it clamps to the face of a metal box-section gate post with no mortice cutting, carries a full keypad and lever handle on both sides of the gate, and adds a euro cylinder Double Key Override (DKO) with a code lockout function. A lever on each face makes it genuinely pull-friendly: heavy and outward-opening gates are easier to operate than with a knob, and the lever suits frail hands.
The Double Key Override does two jobs. Turned one way, the key opens the gate without a code. Turned further, it deadlocks the latch bolt and locks both keypads out entirely - the correct code will not open the gate until the key releases it. That gives a supervisor, body corporate manager, or facility keyholder the ability to shut a gate down completely at the end of the day, regardless of who knows the code. The euro cylinder itself is not supplied and is ordered separately.
There are no batteries, no wiring, and nothing to charge - the keypads, latch, and key override are entirely mechanical. The marine grade keypads are tested to 1,000 hours of salt water exposure, the spring-loaded latch bolt adjusts from 65mm to 80mm of projection with 20mm of bolt withdrawal, and the lever is reversible on site to suit either hand of gate. Browse the full Digital Mechanical Locks range for every battery-free keypad lock we stock.
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
The keypads are marine grade quality, tested to 1,000 hours of salt water exposure, with the housing finished in black powder coat. For severe, front-line coastal exposure, the step-up BL3430DKOMGPROECP carries Borg's full Marine Grade Pro external coating across the lock - the grades are unpacked in MG Pro and ECP explained.
This is a standard-chamber Borg lock: changing the PIN means taking the lock off the gate and repositioning the code tumblers at a bench using the supplied tweezers. It is entirely doable - the process is covered step by step in the bench method and Borg standard chambers - but if codes will rotate often, the Easicode Pro sibling changes codes on the gate in a couple of minutes.
Both faces of the gate carry a full keypad and lever operating on the same PIN code, so the gate cannot be opened from either side without it. On a gate this matters more than on a door: a single-sided gate lock can often be defeated by simply reaching over the gate to the free inside handle. Our guide to double-sided gate locks covers exactly why back-to-back is the right call on most secure gates.
A euro profile cylinder fits into the lock body and gives the keyholder two functions: (1) emergency key access without the code, and (2) a code lockout - the key deadlocks the latch bolt and disables both keypads, so no code will open the gate until the key releases it. The euro cylinder and keys are not supplied - order a standard euro profile cylinder in the correct length for your gate post from our cylinders and barrels range or through your locksmith.
The inside keypad requires the correct PIN before the lever will operate, and the key lockout can disable code entry entirely. That makes this lock unsuitable for any fire door, required exit path, or emergency egress route - see why exit paths need free egress. It is also not suitable for pool safety barrier gates, where a code-to-exit lock conflicts with the barrier's compliance requirements - the pool barrier gate rules explain what is and is not allowed. Confirm compliance with your certifier before installing on any regulated gate or door.
There is no power source, no wiring, and no battery to go flat on a rainy night. The keypads, latch, and key override are all purely mechanical - one of the biggest practical advantages of a mechanical digital lock on an outdoor gate.
Like all mechanical digital locks, this lock holds one active code at a time - everyone who uses the gate shares it, and there is no audit trail of who came and went. Since a code change on this model is a bench job, plan your code-sharing discipline up front - or step up to the ECP sibling if you expect frequent rotation. See the honest limitations of mechanical digital locks.
This gate lock is built for light to medium traffic - residential gates, strata side gates, plant rooms, and service enclosures where a manageable number of people come and go each day. The forend fixing clamps to a hollow box-section post, which is a genuine structural consideration: it is the right method for gates, but it is not a commercial heavy-duty door lock.
For a busy commercial entrance with constant daily cycles, choose a heavy-duty rated mechanical digital lock instead - the Borg BL7701 heavy duty or the dual-keypad Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD. Our guide to what heavy duty actually means explains cycle ratings and where the line sits.
The BL3430DKOMGPROECP is this exact lock - same back-to-back keypads, same Double Key Override - with two upgrades: Easicode Pro on-gate code changes (no bench job) and the full Marine Grade Pro external coating. If either matters on your site, it is worth the step up.
Key Features
- Back-to-back keypads - the same PIN code is required to enter and to exit the gate.
- Lever handle on both sides - designed for pulling a heavy or outward-opening gate closed, and easier than a knob for frail users.
- Double Key Override (DKO) via euro cylinder - manual key access independent of the code, plus a code lockout that deadlocks the latch bolt and disables both keypads until the key releases it. Cylinder not supplied.
- Marine grade keypads, tested to 1,000 hours of salt water exposure; black powder coat housing.
- Free-turning levers - each lever spins without operating the latch until the correct code is entered on that side.
- Over 1,000 code combinations; code set by repositioning the supplied tumblers.
- Forend fixing system - through-bolts to the face of the gate post with two telescopic fixings, no mortice cutting or edge drilling.
- Anti-climb housing design.
- Spring-loaded latch bolt, adjustable from 65mm to 80mm projection via the included hex key, with 20mm bolt withdrawal.
- Security fixings included.
- Suits square gate posts from 30mm to 60mm as standard; XL latchbolt available separately for posts up to 120mm.
- Fully mechanical - no batteries, no wiring, no power.
- Easily reversible on site to suit either hand of gate.
Forend Fixing System - How the Lock Mounts
Unlike a door lock, the BL3430 never needs a mortice pocket. The lock body sits on the face of the gate post and two telescopic through-bolt fixings pass right through the post, clamping the unit firmly from both sides - a front collar and sleeve assembly on the keypad side, and a rear collar fitted from the post's rear side. Standard fixings suit square posts from 30mm to 60mm. If your post sits outside that range, measure before ordering - our guide to measuring the gate stile and the forend fixing option walk through it, and the accessories table below lists the latch extensions and round post kit.
Access Methods
What's in the Box
- Outside keypad and lever unit with anti-climb housing (marine grade keypad, black)
- Inside keypad and lever unit (marine grade keypad, black)
- Adjustable spring-loaded latch bolt (65-80mm projection)
- Telescopic through-bolt fixing screws (suits 30-60mm gate posts)
- Code tumbler set (x4)
- Tweezers (code change tool)
- Hex key (latch projection adjustment)
- Fixings and installation hardware, including 2x pins, 2x sleeves, and the forend bracket
The euro cylinder and keys are NOT supplied - order a standard euro profile cylinder separately in the correct length for your gate post.
Suitable Uses
- Secure external gates where the code must work both ways - back-to-back keypads defeat the reach-over trick that undoes single-sided gate locks.
- Heavy or outward-opening gates - the lever handle on both sides is designed for pulling a gate closed, and suits frail users who find a knob difficult.
- Coastal and outdoor gates within the marine grade keypads' capability - see all locks rated for an external gate exposed to rain; for severe front-line salt exposure, step up to the MG Pro sibling.
- Plant rooms, pump enclosures, and restricted-access service gates where a supervisor needs key-based lockdown (DKO) and codes rotate rarely.
- Strata, body corporate, and managed-property side gates with stable codes - the manager's key shuts the gate down completely when needed.
- Not suitable for: pool safety barrier gates (see the canonical pool barrier treatment), fire doors, or any required exit path - the code-to-exit design and key lockout conflict with free-egress requirements.

Borg BL3100-BL3400 Gate Lock Series - Full Product Family
All ten models are purpose-built forend-fixing gate locks for metal box-section gate frames - fully mechanical, no batteries, black finish, 65-80mm adjustable latch. They differ in keypad configuration, marine grade tier, code change method, and key override.
Marine Grade models are finished in black powder coat with marine grade keypads (1,000 hour salt water tested); MG Pro models carry the full Marine Grade Pro external coating. Easicode Pro (ECP) models change codes on the gate; standard models use tumbler repositioning at the bench. DKO = Double Key Override, a euro cylinder key override with code lockout - the cylinder is not supplied on any key override model. For help decoding Borg's model naming, see the Borg naming guide.
Accessories and Spares - Borg Gate Locks
Borg's catalogued gate lock accessories and spare parts. Latch extensions serve gate posts wider than the standard fixing range; the round post kit adapts the forend fixing to round posts.
A euro profile cylinder (required to use the Double Key Override) is ordered separately - browse cylinders and barrels or ask us to match one to your gate post width.

Latchbolt projection adjusts 65-80mm with 20mm bolt withdrawal. Standard fixing suits 30-60mm square posts; the XL latchbolt option extends coverage to 120mm. See the full-width drawings in the Dimensions tab. Not sure your gate stile will take a lock at all? Start with how to measure a gate stile.
Frequently Asked Questions
No mortice, no edge drilling. The lock body sits on the face of the gate post and the two telescopic fixing screws pass right through the post, clamping the unit firmly from both sides. The spring-loaded latchbolt projects from the lock body into a strike on the opposite post or frame, and its projection adjusts from 65mm to 80mm with the included hex key. This is exactly the fixing method our narrow gate post guide recommends when a mortice lock physically will not fit the stile.
At a bench, not on the gate. The lock comes off the gate, the chamber is opened, and the code tumblers are repositioned with the supplied tweezers to set the new digits - then reassemble, test the new code several times, and refit. It is a careful 20-30 minute job the first time. The full procedure is in the bench method and Borg standard chambers. If that sounds like a chore you will face often, the Easicode Pro sibling changes codes on the gate in minutes.
No - not on a pool safety barrier gate. This lock requires a code to exit and can be key-locked out entirely, which conflicts with pool barrier compliance requirements. Pool barrier gates need a compliant self-closing, self-latching arrangement, and the rules around what locks are permitted are specific - read the canonical pool barrier gate treatment and why keypad locks and pool gates need care, and confirm any pool gate setup with a licensed pool safety inspector. For pool equipment enclosures and plant gates that are not part of the safety barrier itself, this lock is fine.
Two things. First, it is a conventional key override: turn the key and the gate opens without a code. Second, it is a code lockout: turn the key further and the latch bolt deadlocks while both keypads are disabled - the correct code will not open the gate until the key releases it. That gives an authorised keyholder full lockdown control over the gate. The euro profile cylinder is not supplied; source one in the correct length for your gate post from our cylinders range or through your locksmith.
Yes - both keypads run the same code and the inside lever will not operate without it. That is the point of back-to-back on a gate: a single-sided gate lock can often be defeated by reaching over the top to the free inside handle. If you want code-in but free-handle-out instead, the single-sided BL3400GATE (or the ECP-equipped BL3400MGPROECP) is the same lock without the inside keypad. Never fit a code-to-exit lock on a required exit path - see exit paths explained.
Additional Information
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation, and the lock must not be dismantled beyond the documented code change procedure.

Borg BL3430DKOGATE - Extended FAQ

Fixing and Installation
Yes, if you are comfortable drilling accurate holes through a metal post. You will need a drill with metal bits, a square, a tape measure, and the included hex key - the two telescopic fixings pass through the post and clamp the lock from both sides, so the critical skill is drilling straight and level. Allow an hour for a first install. If you would rather hand it over, our advice and installation service can arrange a locksmith fit.
Square posts from 30mm to 60mm on the standard fixings and latch. From 60mm up to 120mm, fit the 50mm latch extension or XL latchbolt option. Round posts need the round post kit. Measure the post face width before ordering - how to measure a gate stile shows exactly where to put the tape.
No. The lock is easily reversible on site to suit either hand of gate, and the latch can be flipped to suit the swing direction. Do the reversal at the bench before mounting - the steps are in the BL3100-BL3400 installation instructions (PDF).
The forend fixing is engineered around hollow metal box-section posts - the telescopic fixings compress against the post walls. On thick timber the through-bolt principle can still work, but the anti-climb housing and latch geometry are designed for metal gate frames, and on an actual door you are better served by a purpose-built door lock. For a busy building doorway, look at the Borg BL7701 heavy duty instead.
The spring-loaded latchbolt projection is adjustable from 65mm to 80mm with the supplied hex key, and the bolt has 20mm of withdrawal when the lever operates. Set the projection so the bolt engages the strike fully with the gate closed against its stop - too short and the gate rattles, too long and the bolt binds. The stainless steel strike is available as a spare if yours is lost or damaged.
Codes and the Tumbler Code Change
Take the lock off the gate and work at a clean, well-lit bench. Remove the retaining screws and lift the cover plate carefully - there are springs beneath it. With the chamber open, use the supplied tweezers to lift each tumbler and reposition it: coded tumblers go in the button positions you want in your new code, uncoded tumblers fill the rest, with the cut-outs oriented as the instructions show. Reassemble, then test the new code several times with the lock still in hand before it goes anywhere near the gate. Full detail with photos: the bench method and Borg standard chambers, plus the series instructions (PDF).
Each keypad unit has its own chamber, so a code change on a back-to-back lock means doing the tumbler procedure on both units. Keep them on the same code - the lock is designed around one shared code, and running different codes per side is a recipe for confusion at the gate. Budget roughly double the bench time of a single-sided model.
That is exactly what the Double Key Override is for - the key opens the gate regardless of the code, so a lost code never locks you out (provided the cylinder was fitted and a key is on hand). From there, take the lock to the bench and reset the code. If a keypad genuinely jams and cleaning plus lubrication does not fix it, contact Terry's Locksmiths - do not dismantle beyond the documented code change procedure or the warranty is void.
The mechanical chamber gives over 1,000 possible combinations, and the buttons in a Borg code are pressed in any order - the chamber reads which buttons are coded, not the sequence. Longer codes are more secure but slower at the gate; most sites settle on four to five digits. Avoid obvious picks (unit numbers, years) - since a change is a bench job, choose a code you can live with for a while.
Key Override and Lockout
A standard euro profile cylinder, sized so the cam sits correctly in the lock body for your post width - measure the assembled depth before ordering. If you want the gate on the same key as your building, ask your locksmith to supply a keyed-alike euro cylinder. Browse the cylinders and barrels range or contact us with your post measurement and we will match one.
DKO is Borg's Double Key Override. A plain key override (the K models, like the BL3175GATEK) only opens the gate with a key. DKO adds the second function: the key can deadlock the latch bolt and lock the code out on both keypads, giving the keyholder a true lockdown. If you see suffixes like KO, DKO, MG, MG Pro, and ECP swimming together, the Borg naming decoder untangles the lot.
Yes - and you must plan for it. When the key lockout is engaged, neither keypad works, from either side. Anyone still inside the gated area cannot code out; they need the key or another exit. Make lockout a deliberate end-of-day procedure with a walk-through first, and never rely on this lock where people could be trapped - see exit paths and egress explained.
Egress, Compliance and Suitability
No fire rating is claimed for this product, and its code-to-exit design is fundamentally incompatible with fire doors and required exits regardless. If the opening you are securing is a building doorway with compliance requirements, you need hardware assessed for that role - the Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD is our dual-keypad heavy duty pick with documented compliance credentials. This lock belongs on gates.
Shared and common-property gates need everyone on the arrangement: who holds the code, who holds DKO keys, and who is authorised to engage the lockout. A neighbour key-locking a shared gate can strand the other party. Put the rules in writing (body corporate minutes work well) before the lock goes on - our guide to shared gates and access modes covers the common arrangements.
It is convenience-grade security done properly: it stops casual entry, defeats the reach-over trick, and the DKO deadlock adds genuine resistance when engaged. It is not a high-security product - codes can be shared or observed, and the gate itself is usually the weaker element (most gates can be climbed). Match the lock to the threat: for a side gate or plant enclosure it is well matched; for genuinely high-value targets, layer it with other measures. Our latch vs bolt security comparison is a straight-talking read on where these locks sit.
Weather and Maintenance
This model's marine grade keypads (1,000 hours salt water tested) with a black powder coat housing handle normal Australian outdoor exposure, including coastal suburbs, very well. MG Pro adds Borg's full marine external coating across the lock and is the right call within the salt-spray zone - beachfront, marina, and exposed headland sites. If you are on the fence, the deciding factors are laid out in MG Pro and ECP explained and the Borg section of Lockwood vs Borg vs Carbine.
Little, but not none: a monthly light spray of silicone-based lubricant on the buttons and lever pivots (wipe off the excess so grit does not stick), a freshwater rinse of the keypads if you are near salt, and an annual service check of the latch engagement and fixings. The routine is in the Borg Servicing Guide (PDF). Never use graphite or oil-based products on the keypads.
No - there is nothing electronic to short out and no battery to fail. The lock is designed for external metal gates exposed to the weather; the mechanical chamber keeps working wet or dry. That reliability in weather is a core reason gate installers keep choosing mechanical digital locks over battery keypads for gates.
Choosing Between Models
The BL3430GATE is this lock without any key override, and the BL3175GATEK is the knob-style back-to-back with a plain key override. What this DKO model adds is the lockout - the key does not just open the gate, it can shut the whole lock down. If nobody will ever need to lock the gate against code holders, save the money; if a manager or owner wants that control, this is the model.
Two things: Easicode Pro (codes change on the gate with a change key, no bench job, and the ECP chamber offers over 4,000 combinations) and the full Marine Grade Pro coating. Function is otherwise identical - same back-to-back keypads, same DKO lockout, same forend fixing and dimensions. Rotating codes more than once or twice a year, or a front-line coastal site, are each reason enough to choose the BL3430DKOMGPROECP.
Borg makes gate locks in other formats: the BL2615MGPROECP horizontal rim deadbolt suits gates needing a deadbolt rather than a latch, the BL4441MGPROECP is the timber-gate lever equivalent, and the BL4409MGPROECP slam latch self-latches on closing. If your gate currently relies on a magnetic latch, read why magnetic gate latches can be problematic before combining one with any keypad lock.
