This is a standard-chamber Borg lock: changing the PIN means taking the lock off the gate and rearranging the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) code pieces at a bench with the supplied tweezers, on each keypad unit. It is fiddly but entirely doable - the process is covered step by step in the bench method and Borg standard chambers. If you expect to change the code with any regularity - even once a year - the Easicode Pro BL3430MGPROECP changes codes on the gate in a couple of minutes.
Both faces of the gate carry a full keypad and lever operating on the same PIN code, so the gate cannot be opened from either side without it. On a gate this matters more than on a door: a single-sided gate lock can often be defeated by simply reaching over the gate to the free inside handle. The inside keypad requires the correct PIN before the lever will operate. Forend Fixing System - How the Lock Mounts
Unlike a door lock, the BL3430 never needs a mortice pocket. The lock body sits on the face of the gate post and two telescopic through-bolt fixings pass right through the post, clamping the unit firmly from both sides - a front collar and sleeve assembly on the keypad side, and a rear collar fitted from the post's rear side. Standard fixings suit square posts from 30mm to 60mm. Marine Grade models are finished in black powder coat with marine grade keypads (salt spray tested to 1,000 hours); MG Pro models carry Borg's Marine Grade Pro external coating. Spare red and blue code pieces are supplied in the box for lengthening or shortening the code. No spare keypad is catalogued for the BL3100-BL3400 gate lock series - if a keypad is damaged in service, contact us and we will handle it under warranty or source a resolution with Borg directly. The Easicode latch extension (BLGATELATCHNEW) and the Easicode change key belong to the ECP models, not this On The Bench version. This model has no key override, so no cylinder is required, and a euro cylinder cannot be retrofitted to this body - if you want a key override, the BL3430DKOGATE is this same back-to-back body with a Double Key Override (cylinder not supplied).

No - not on a pool safety barrier gate. This lock requires a code to exit, which conflicts with pool barrier compliance requirements. Pool barrier gates need a compliant self-closing, self-latching arrangement, and the rules around what locks are permitted are specific - read the canonical pool barrier gate treatment and why keypad locks and pool gates need care, and confirm any pool gate setup with a licensed pool safety inspector. For pool equipment enclosures and plant gates that are not part of the safety barrier itself, this lock is fine.

That is the point of back-to-back on a gate: a single-sided gate lock can often be defeated by reaching over the top to the free inside handle. Additional Information
Monthly: wipe both keypads, both levers and the exposed latch with a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (such as GT85) and remove the excess with a soft cloth. Do not use oil-based lubricants such as WD-40 - they attract dirt and wear down internal parts over time. Annually: remove the lock from the gate, spray the inside through the code piece holes on the reverse of each keypad with silicon-based lubricant, spray all fixings, accessories and the latch with silicon-based lubricant, then press each button and operate both levers several times to confirm smooth operation. Warranty
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled - doing so will invalidate the warranty. Fixing and Installation
Yes, if you are comfortable drilling accurate holes through a metal post. You will need a drill with metal bits, a square, a tape measure, and the included hex key - the two telescopic fixings pass through the post and clamp the lock from both sides, so the critical skill is drilling straight and level. No. The lock is easily reversible on site to suit either hand of gate, and the latch can be flipped to suit the swing direction. Do the reversal at the bench before mounting - the steps are in the BL3100-BL3400 installation instructions (PDF).
The forend fixing is engineered around hollow metal box-section posts - the telescopic fixings compress against the post walls. On thick timber the through-bolt principle can still work, but the anti-climb housing and latch geometry are designed for metal gate frames, and on an actual door you are better served by a purpose-built door lock. For a busy building doorway, look at the Borg BL7701 heavy duty instead.
The spring-loaded latchbolt projection is adjustable from 65mm to 80mm with the supplied hex key, and the bolt has 20mm of withdrawal when the lever operates. Set the projection so the bolt engages the strike fully with the gate closed against its stop - too short and the gate rattles, too long and the bolt binds. Codes and the On The Bench Code Change
Take the lock off the gate and work at a clean, well-lit bench. Remove the two red screws and lift the cover plate carefully - there are springs beneath it. With the coding chamber open and the C code piece held down, use the supplied tweezers to rearrange the code pieces: red coded pieces go in the button positions you want in your new code, blue uncoded pieces fill the rest. Reassemble, then test the new code several times with the lock still in hand before it goes anywhere near the gate. On a back-to-back lock, each keypad unit has its own coding chamber, so repeat the procedure on the second unit. The mechanical chamber gives over 8,000 possible combinations, and the buttons in a Borg code are pressed in any order - the chamber reads which buttons are coded, not the sequence. Longer codes are more secure but slower at the gate; most sites settle on four to five digits. Avoid obvious picks (unit numbers, years) - since a change is done On The Bench, choose a code you can live with for a while.

No fire rating is claimed for this product, and its code-to-exit design is fundamentally incompatible with fire doors and required exits regardless. Shared and common-property gates need everyone on the same code, and everyone briefed that a code change (a bench job) needs coordinating so nobody is locked out mid-change. It is not a high-security product - codes can be shared or observed, and the gate itself is usually the weaker element (most gates can be climbed). MG Pro adds Borg's full marine external coating across the lock and is the right call within the salt-spray zone - beachfront, marina, and exposed headland sites. Monthly, a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (such as GT85) on both keypads, both levers and the exposed latch, wiping off the excess so grit does not stick - never WD-40 or other oil-based lubricants, which attract dirt, and never graphite. A freshwater rinse helps if you are near salt. Annually, a full service: the lock comes off the gate, the inside is sprayed through the code piece holes on the reverse of each keypad, and every button and lever is cycled to confirm smooth operation. No - there is nothing electronic to short out and no battery to fail. The lock is designed for external metal gates exposed to the weather; the mechanical chamber keeps working wet or dry.
