Carbine CEL-RFID MIFARE Card - Blue/White
The Carbine CEL-RFID is a MIFARE 13.56MHz RFID card designed as an additional or replacement credential for Carbine CEL-3IN1 and CEL2 series digital locks. It is sold individually and is compatible with any lock that reads MIFARE (ISO14443 Type A) credentials.
The card operates at 13.56MHz and uses the MIFARE chip standard - the same chip type used in many public transport cards across Australia. It is not compatible with EMV chips used in credit cards (VISA PayWave, Mastercard PayPass), which use ISO14443 Type B. Each card is programmed directly through the lock's programming mode; no separate programmer or software is required.
The CEL-RFID is credit card sized (86mm x 54mm) and is suitable for everyday carry in a wallet or card holder. It is part of Carbine's broader CEL accessories range, which also includes RFID stickers, wristbands, and fob-style credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will any RFID card work with my Carbine CEL lock?
Only MIFARE credentials using ISO14443 Type A chips are compatible. This includes transport cards, generic MIFARE key cards, and this CEL-RFID card. Credit cards (VISA PayWave, Mastercard PayPass) use EMV chips (ISO14443 Type B) and are not compatible. If you are unsure about a credential you already have, check that it states "MIFARE" or "13.56MHz ISO14443 Type A" on its packaging.
How many RFID cards can the CEL lock store?
The CEL-3IN1 and CEL2 locks share a combined credential pool. The CEL-3IN1 supports 1 programming code, 25 user PIN codes, and 25 RFID credentials. On the CEL2 series, this combined pool is 100 credentials total (shared across PIN codes and RFID cards). Check the user guide for your specific model to confirm the limits.
Can I use my NFC-enabled smartphone instead of a card?
Most NFC-enabled Android smartphones support MIFARE and can be used in place of a physical card. However, NFC behaviour varies between phone manufacturers and models - it is strongly recommended to test your specific handset before committing to phone-only access. Apple iPhones do not support third-party MIFARE credentials via NFC in the same way. If a smartphone is not compatible, Carbine RFID stickers (adhered to the back of the phone) are an alternative option.
How do I program this card into my lock?
Cards are enrolled directly through the lock's programming mode - no separate programmer, software, or app is required. The process is covered in the CEL-3IN1 User Guide PDF linked below. Briefly: enter programming mode using the master code, select the Add Card function, then present the card to the RFID reader zone on the lock body.
Is this card compatible with the CEL2-BT (Bluetooth) variant?
RFID card access is available on CEL2-BT leverset models but is not available on the CEL2-BT deadbolt variant. The CEL2-BT deadbolt supports PIN and Bluetooth only. Confirm your lock model before ordering if RFID access is required.
Additional Information
The most common source of confusion when sourcing RFID credentials is the difference between MIFARE (ISO14443 Type A) and EMV (ISO14443 Type B) chips. Bank cards, including VISA PayWave and Mastercard PayPass, use EMV chips and will not register on a CEL lock. MIFARE credentials include Opal cards, Myki cards, generic building access cards, and this CEL-RFID card. When sourcing third-party credentials, confirm the chip type is MIFARE / ISO14443 Type A before purchasing.
While most modern NFC-enabled Android phones support MIFARE, each manufacturer implements NFC differently. Some phones restrict background NFC reads, require specific app handshakes, or position the NFC antenna in a location that makes presentation to the lock inconsistent. Carbine recommends testing the specific handset model prior to installation. For phone-based access that proves unreliable, Carbine RFID stickers (available separately) can be adhered to the back of the phone as an alternative. Note that RFID stickers work best positioned toward the top of the phone and may be affected by wireless charging pads.
On CEL locks, PIN codes and RFID cards draw from a shared credential pool. Adding more RFID cards reduces the number of available PIN code slots, and vice versa. Plan your credential allocation before issuing cards across multiple users. Where a mix of PIN and card access is required, consider assigning cards to users who require keyless carry (cleaners, contractors) and PIN codes to resident users.
If a card is lost, it can be deleted from the lock individually through programming mode without affecting other enrolled credentials. Refer to the CEL-3IN1 User Guide for the card deletion procedure. Deleting and re-enrolling credentials does not require a factory reset of the lock.
