Carbine CEL-RFID-UFOB MIFARE Key Fob – RFID Credential for CEL Digital Locks
The Carbine CEL-RFID-UFOB is a compact MIFARE 13.56MHz RFID key fob for use with Carbine's CEL-3IN1 and CEL2 series digital locks. It provides the same wireless access credential functionality as the CEL-RFID card, in a fob form factor suited to keyring carry.
The fob uses the same MIFARE chip standard (NXP Mifare S50, ISO14443 Type A) as all other credentials in the CEL-RFID range. It is enrolled directly through the lock's programming mode — no separate programmer, reader, or software is required. Once enrolled, it operates by presenting the fob to the RFID read zone on the lock body.
The CEL-RFID-UFOB is part of Carbine's broader CEL accessory credential range, which also includes the CEL-RFID ISO card and CEL-RFID-ST-C metal sticker label. All three formats use the same chip and are interchangeable from a compatibility perspective.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the CEL-RFID-UFOB fob compatible with the same locks as the CEL-RFID card?
Yes. All credentials in the CEL-RFID range – card, fob, and metal sticker – use the same NXP Mifare S50 chip and the same ISO14443 Type A protocol. They are interchangeable from a compatibility perspective. The CEL-RFID-UFOB works with all Carbine CEL-3IN1 and CEL2 series locks that support RFID access.
Will any RFID fob work with my Carbine CEL lock?
Only credentials using MIFARE chips (ISO14443 Type A) are compatible. Credit cards and payment fobs – including VISA PayWave and Mastercard PayPass – use EMV chips (ISO14443 Type B) and will not work. Many building access cards, key fobs, and transport cards in Australia use MIFARE and will be compatible. Carbine recommends using original CEL-RFID credentials to guarantee compatibility. Third-party MIFARE fobs may work but Carbine cannot provide support for them, particularly if their settings are altered in a third-party reader.
How many fobs can I enrol on my CEL lock?
The CEL-3IN1 supports up to 25 RFID credentials and 25 PIN codes (plus one programming code). The CEL2 series shares a combined pool of 100 credentials across PIN codes and RFID cards and fobs. Each fob enrolled reduces the available PIN code slots by one. Refer to the user guide for your specific lock model to confirm the limits.
How do I enrol this fob into the lock?
Enrolment is done directly through the lock's programming mode – no separate programmer, app, or software is required. Enter programming mode using the master code, select the Add Card or Add Credential function, then present the fob to the RFID read zone on the lock body. The full procedure is in the CEL-3IN1 User Guide linked in the PDF Downloads section below.
Is this fob compatible with the CEL2-BT Bluetooth deadbolt variant?
No. The CEL2-BT deadbolt supports PIN code and Bluetooth access only – RFID is not available on that variant. RFID credential access, including this fob, is available on CEL2-BT leverset models and on all CEL-3IN1 and CEL2-3IN1 locks. Confirm your lock model before ordering if RFID access is a requirement. See our Carbine CEL & CDL Digital Lock Range – Complete Buyer's Guide for a model-by-model access method breakdown.
Additional Information
The most common point of confusion when sourcing RFID credentials is the difference between MIFARE (ISO14443 Type A) and EMV (ISO14443 Type B) chips. Bank-issued payment cards and payment fobs, including VISA PayWave and Mastercard PayPass, use EMV chips and will not register on a CEL lock. MIFARE credentials include Opal cards, Myki cards, Go cards, generic building access fobs, and this CEL-RFID-UFOB. When sourcing third-party credentials, confirm the chip type is MIFARE or ISO14443 Type A before purchasing.
On CEL locks, PIN codes and RFID credentials draw from a shared pool. Each fob enrolled reduces the number of available PIN code slots by one, and vice versa. Plan your credential allocation before issuing fobs across multiple users. Where a mix of PIN and fob access is required, a practical approach is to assign fobs to users who need keyless carry (cleaners, contractors, guests) and PIN codes to residents or regular occupants.
If a fob is lost or needs to be revoked, it can be deleted from the lock individually through programming mode without affecting any other enrolled credentials. A factory reset is not required. Refer to the CEL-3IN1 User Guide for the credential deletion procedure. It is good practice to delete the lost credential promptly and assign a new fob to the affected user.
While many third-party MIFARE fobs will operate a CEL lock, Carbine only provides support for original CEL-RFID accessories. If settings on a third-party credential are altered in another reader or access control system, this may affect its operation on the Carbine lock. For installations where credential reliability matters, use original Carbine accessories. For further detail on compatible MIFARE types and Australian transport cards that are compatible, refer to the CEL-RFID Digital Lock Applications Guide linked below.
