Carbine CEL2-BT Digital Bluetooth Leverset with RFID and Key Override – Matte Black Kit with Batteries
The Carbine CEL2-BT-SL8MBKIT is the Bluetooth leverset in the CEL2-BT range, combining four access methods: touchscreen PIN code, RFID/NFC credential, Bluetooth via the Carbine Connect App (iOS and Android), and mechanical key override. It stores up to 200 combined user codes and RFID credentials and supports up to 10 Bluetooth users managed through the app or directly on the keypad.
The leverset is designed to IP54 standards and is NCC compliant. It is fire rated for use on E-Core and Firecore fire-rated door assemblies. For installations where the full fire door hardware pack is required, the dedicated fire door kit versions are the CEL2-BT-SL8MB-FRKIT and CEL2-BT-SL8MB-FRKIT. See: Buyers Guide Ch05: Fire Door Smart Locks.
The Carbine Connect App communicates via Bluetooth only — no internet connection, gateway, or hub is required. This means remote access from outside Bluetooth range is not available. For context on whether this matters for your application, see: Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi? and Buyers Guide Ch08: Gateway Comparison.
A Satin Nickel variant (CEL2-BT-SL8SNKIT) is also available.
The CEL2-BT leverset is certified for use on fire-rated door assemblies. Certifications: E-Core (FAS220275 DHAR1.8 item 18, Jensen Hughes — FRL -/120/30, valid to 30/11/2027) and Firecore (FRT230184, Warringtonfire — FRL up to -/120/30, valid to 20/12/2028). For dedicated fire door installation kits, see the CEL2-BT-SL8MB-FRKIT. See: Fire door types and smart lock certification · Fire rating certificates
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)

Key Features
- Four access methods: touchscreen PIN code, RFID/NFC credential, Bluetooth via Carbine Connect App, and mechanical key override.

- Compatible with Mifare 13.56MHz RFID cards, FOBs, wristbands, stickers, and NFC-enabled smartphones.
- Carbine Connect App (iOS and Android) — manage users, set time-restricted access, view event log, auto-unlock.
- Three Bluetooth user access types: permanent, time period (limited duration), and scheduled (specific times of day).
- Auto-unlock feature — phone opens the lock automatically on approach via GPS and Bluetooth (optional).
- Event log records all access activity — viewable when connected via Bluetooth.
- Carbine Connect App penetration-tested; rated “Low Risk”.
- Guiding code, double authorisation, vacation mode, passage mode, auto-lock 5–99 seconds.

- Fits standard 54mm lockset hole; door 35–51mm; backset 60–70mm adjustable.
The Carbine Connect App (iOS and Android) pairs to the lock by scanning a QR code inside the battery compartment. Once paired, up to 10 Bluetooth users can be added by sharing access via QR code, SMS, or email. Users can be assigned permanent, time-limited, or scheduled access. The event log shows all entry activity. The auto-unlock feature unlocks the door as you approach, using GPS and Bluetooth — requires Location set to “Always” and app running in the background. Bluetooth range only — no internet, gateway, or remote access. See: Buyers Guide Ch08: Gateway Comparison
Access Methods
Works on 13.56MHz Mifare NFC (ISO14443 Type A) — RFID cards, FOBs, wristbands, stickers, and most NFC-enabled Android phones. Australian Mifare transit cards (Go card, Opal, Myki, SmartRider, MyWay, metroCard) are compatible. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are NOT compatible (ISO14443 Type B). If your phone’s NFC chip is incompatible, a Mifare RFID sticker on the back of the phone is the recommended workaround. See: Carbine CEL RFID Application List (PDF) · Buyers Guide Ch03: Access Methods
Suitable Uses
- Residential entry and front doors requiring keyless access with the flexibility of both RFID credentials and Bluetooth app management.
- Short-stay rental properties where the host wants app-based user management alongside tap-and-go RFID card access for cleaners or regular service providers. See: Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi?
- Strata and apartment entry doors requiring NCC lever compliance. See: Buyers Guide Ch04: Door Types
- Fire-rated door assemblies (E-Core and Firecore). For the dedicated fire door kit, see the CEL2-BT-SL8MB-FRKIT. See: Buyers Guide Ch05: Fire Door Smart Locks
- Applications requiring passage mode for free-flow periods (hold-open function via #-key). See: Buyers Guide Ch04: Door Types

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I control this lock remotely from anywhere?
No. The Carbine Connect App communicates via Bluetooth only — you must be within approximately 10 metres of the lock. There is no cloud connection or gateway. For remote access you would need to share a PIN code in advance. See: Buyers Guide Ch08: Gateway Comparison
Does this leverset work on fire doors?
Yes. The CEL2-BT leverset is certified for use on E-Core (FRL -/120/30) and Firecore (up to FRL -/120/30) fire-rated door assemblies. For the dedicated fire door installation kit with all required hardware, see the CEL2-BT-SL8SN-FRKIT. See: Apartment fire doors on the Gold Coast
Will my NFC phone work as an RFID credential?
Most NFC-enabled Android phones with Mifare support work. Check your phone’s NFC chip before installation. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are not compatible. If your phone is incompatible, a Mifare RFID sticker adhered to the back is the recommended workaround. See: Carbine RFID Application List (PDF)
What is passage mode and how do I activate it?
Passage mode keeps the latch retracted, allowing the door to open and close freely without entering a code. To activate: enter a valid user code, then hold the [#] key for 1 second after the door unlocks. The lock stays in passage mode until you activate the screen and hold [#] again. This is useful for high-traffic periods such as business open hours or events. See: Buyers Guide Ch04: Door Types
My door is not within 35–51mm thick or 60–70mm backset — will this fit?
This lock requires 35–51mm door thickness and a 60–70mm backset. Outside these ranges it is not compatible. See: Buyers Guide Ch02: Measuring Your Door · How to measure your backset
Additional Information
The QR code inside the battery compartment is the only way to pair a new device to the lock. Photograph it immediately after installation and store it safely. For commercial or short-stay rental applications, Carbine recommends removing the QR code label from the lock (after photographing it) to prevent unauthorised re-pairing. If the QR code is lost without a backup copy, the lock must be factory reset and cannot be paired via app without the code.
The connecting cable between the exterior and interior modules must be routed correctly into the designated channel of the mounting plate. Incorrect routing is the most common installation failure — a pinched cable causes an unresponsive keypad, a battery cover that won’t seat, or the Set button being held down. If the keypad stops responding after the battery cover is installed, check the cable routing first. See: 3 common DIY smart lock installation mistakes
The factory default programming code is 12345678. This code can both unlock the door and access programming mode. Change it to a private code immediately after installation. Never share the programming code with tenants or regular users — issue separate user codes or Bluetooth app access for day-to-day entry. See: The realities of electronic door locks
Auto-unlock uses GPS and Bluetooth to open the lock as you approach home. It requires Location permission set to “Always” (iOS) or “All the time” (Android), and the app must run in the background. GPS accuracy and phone model can affect reliability. The lock activates when you re-enter a 200-metre radius and come within ~10 metres via Bluetooth. Test thoroughly before relying on it. Disabled by default.
