Decoding Lockwood Model Numbers

Lockwood's DX codes look cryptic, but they read cleanly once you know the pattern. Taking 530DXSC/PADSX2 from left to right:

Code Control - How the Code Works and How to Change It

The set ships with a factory 4 digit code, which you can change to any 4, 5 or 6 digit code of your own. The code lives in a mechanical tumbler chamber behind each keypad - there is no memory chip and nothing to reset electronically. Because it is a chamber rather than a sequence, each digit can be used once per code and the digits can be pressed in any order; the C button always clears a wrong entry and cannot be part of the code. One point specific to this double keypad set: because there is a coding chamber in each pad, changing the code means recoding both keypads at the bench and keeping them matched - this is a single-code system, so the two pads must always carry the same code. It is a fiddly job (small tumblers, and the sequence matters) but entirely doable with the supplied kit and the instructions in front of you. This double keypad set must never be fitted to a fire door or any required escape route. With a keypad on both faces, leaving through the door requires the code - there is no free, single-action exit, and code-controlled egress is prohibited on fire and escape doors. The 530 Digital DX Entrance Set family does carry genuine fire heritage - the set is fire rated to 2 hours under AS 1905.1 (see page 4 of the catalogue excerpt) - but that path belongs to the single keypad 530DXSC, where the inside knob turns freely without a code. When you change the code on a 530DXSC/PADSX2, you need to remove both keypads from the door and recode both chambers to the same new code. Mismatched chambers means one face of the door will not operate. Access and Codes

How does the double keypad actually work?
Both keypads carry a mechanical tumbler chamber. To open the door from either side, press C to clear any partial entry, type your code, then turn the knob. The code cancels automatically when you release the knob, so the door always re-locks. Because both chambers must hold the same code, the lock effectively enforces a single shared credential - no one passes through without entering it. Can you set different codes on each side?
No. This is a single-code mechanical system. Both chambers must be recoded to the same code at the bench - there is no way to run different credentials on the two faces. If per-user codes, individual permissions or different codes per direction are needed, a smart lock is the correct tool. How do I change the code - and do I have to do both keypads?
Yes - both keypads must be recoded at the same time. Remove both from the door, use the supplied code change kit to reposition the tumblers in each chamber to the same new code, then refit both before testing. The procedure is on page 4 of the DX Digital Service Manual. What digits can I use in the code?
Any four, five or six digit combination where each digit appears only once - digits 1 through 10 (10 is the zero key), plus X, Y, Z and C. The C button is the clear key and cannot form part of the code. Because the chamber is order-independent, pressing 1-3-5-7 is the same as 7-5-3-1; the lock detects the combination, not the sequence. Fire Doors and Egress

Why can't this be used on a fire door?
A fire door must allow free, single-action egress at all times. With a keypad on both faces, the inside face requires the code to exit - that is code-controlled egress, which is prohibited. The 530 family's 2-hour fire rating (AS 1905.1) belongs to the single keypad 530DXSC, where the inside handle always turns freely. What doors IS the double keypad set suitable for?
Any commercial or internal door where movement in both directions needs to be code-controlled and a fire/escape rating is not required: server rooms, medication stores, pharmacy dispensaries, cash handling areas, stock-shrinkage doors, and back-of-house access areas. Does it suit my door thickness?
The standard spindle suits doors 33-45mm thick. For doors 46-55mm, order the SP10000-1227ZP extended double-digital spindle alongside the lock. Doors thicker than 55mm need a different solution - Contact Us before ordering. How to measure: Chapter 02 of the Buyer's Guide.
Is the 530 PADSX2 handed?
No - the 530 DX entrance set suits both left-hand and right-hand doors, opening inwards or outwards, with no handed ordering. This is different from the mortice DX range (3572DX, 5572DX) which must be specified left or right at order time. What if the standard 60mm latch doesn't match my door preparation?

What spares are available if a keypad wears out?
Replacement keypads - SPDX-20SC and SPDX-50SC - suit the DX range; check the 530 exploded view to confirm which part suits your specific assembly before ordering a non-returnable replacement. The knob turns but the latch doesn't retract - what's wrong?
A freewheeling knob is almost always the clutch doing its job, not a fault. The DX knob freewheels until a valid code engages it for one turn; if it freeweheels after you've entered what you believe is the correct code, suspect a mis-entry first (try again from a fresh C press), then consider whether the code may have been accidentally changed. If the knob engages but the latch still sticks, check for latch-bolt binding against the strike and that the door hasn't swollen in the frame. The most common genuine fault is a worn or damaged coding chamber - the fix is a replacement keypad, not a new lock.

What's the difference between the 530DXSC and the 530DXSC/PADSX2?
One keypad vs two. The 530DXSC has a code pad on the outside only - you unlock with the code from outside, and the inside knob always turns freely. The 530DXSC/PADSX2 (this product) adds a second code pad on the inside face, so both directions require the code. The PADSX2 adds bidirectional control but removes free egress - which rules it out for fire doors and escape routes.
How does this compare to the Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD dual keypad set?

Why choose a mechanical keypad over an electronic smart lock for bidirectional control?
Zero electronics to fail, charge or update. High-traffic doors like server rooms and medication stores can cycle dozens of times a day - a mechanical lock is indifferent to that load where an electronic lock needs battery management, firmware updates and sometimes connectivity. Thicker doors need an additional spindle. If your door is 46-55mm thick, you will need to order the SP10000-1227ZP extended double-digital spindle separately. For 70mm or 127mm backset requirements, the matching latch kits (530-222SC or 530-225SC) are also sold separately.

Lockwood branded products are covered by manufacturer warranties issued by ASSA ABLOY Australia Pty Ltd. Warranty periods vary by product type, with separate cover for mechanical components, electrical and electronic parts, keys, and finishes.

The summary below sets out the standard warranty structure. All warranty claims are handled by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries. Full terms and exclusions are set out in the official Lockwood warranty document linked at the base of this page.

Finish Coverage Guide

  • Everbrass finishes: up to 25 years against corrosion, tarnishing and discolouration.
  • Stainless steel, polished stainless steel, chrome plating and anodised finishes: typically up to 10 years.
  • PVD and VIVID finishes: typically up to 10 years.
  • Symmetry range finishes: typically up to 5 years.
  • Decorative finishes (Antique Copper, Architectural Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Aged Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass and related variants): typically up to 2 years against corrosion.
  • Unlacquered brass finishes naturally age and change appearance over time. This is not considered a defect.
  • Tea staining of stainless steel is not covered where the required cleaning and maintenance have not been followed.

  1. Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries with your proof of original purchase.
  2. Keep the product securely packed and clearly identified, ready for assessment.
  3. Where a claim is escalated to the manufacturer, ASSA ABLOY may issue a case number before goods are returned.
  4. ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim and determines repair, replacement with the same or closest equivalent product, or refund of the purchase price.

Exclusions

  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Misuse, abuse, accidental damage or use outside published specifications.
  • Improper maintenance or failure to follow care instructions.
  • Unauthorised modification, repair or use of non-genuine parts.
  • Exposure to corrosive environments including coastal air, salt spray, chemicals or pollution.
  • Removal, refitment or associated labour charges.
  • Products not originally sold in Australia through authorised channels.
Australian Consumer Law
These manufacturer warranties apply in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
