The Lockwood 3572DX is a fully mechanical keypad mortice lock for commercial doors that need coded entry without any wiring, batteries or electronics. At 60mm backset it is the standard-depth member of Lockwood's Mortice Digital DX family - the version that fits the majority of commercial timber doors without any modification to the existing door preparation.
The lockset pairs a Lockwood 3572 cylinder mortice lock with the Digital DX keypad on the outside face, and is matched with Lockwood 1800 or 2800 series door furniture on the inside. Enter the code, turn the keypad knob, and the latch retracts; from the inside, the handle opens the door freely at all times with no code required.
Because the whole mechanism is mechanical, there is nothing to charge, pair or replace. Decoding Lockwood Model Numbers
Lockwood's DX model numbers look cryptic, but they follow a simple pattern once you know it. Reading a code like 3572DXLSC from left to right:
One caveat: the short backset families count differently (3782, 4782, 5782 and 6782 step through 23, 25.4, 30 and 38mm backsets), but the idea is the same - the first digit steps through the backset options. Code Control - How the Code Works and How to Change It
The 3572DX ships with a factory-set 4 digit code, which you can change to any 4, 5 or 6 digit code of your own. The code lives in a mechanical tumbler chamber behind the keypad - there is no memory chip and nothing to reset electronically. Because it is a chamber rather than a sequence, each digit can be used once per code and the digits can be pressed in any order; the C button always clears a wrong entry and cannot be part of the code. Changing the code is a bench job, and an honest word: it is a fiddly one - the tumblers are small and the sequence matters - but it is entirely doable with the kit and the instructions in front of you. Handing and Ordering
The Lockwood mortice DX platform is not field-reversible: the orderable models are 3572DXLSC (left hand) and 3572DXRSC (right hand), and the correct one must be selected when you order. Stand on the outside (keypad side) of the closed door: if the hinges are on your left, you need the left-hand unit; hinges on your right, the right-hand unit. Mortice DX locksets are commonly specified on commercial fire door assemblies, and the 3572DX suits that egress logic: entry is code-controlled, but exit through the inside handle is always free and single-action. Even so, no lock should be described as automatically fire compliant on its own. Fire performance belongs to the complete tested doorset - the door leaf, frame, lock, furniture, latch preparation and the installer's compliance - not to the lock in isolation. For Digital DX fire door applications, the rubber mounting pad must not be fitted where the manufacturer's instructions require its omission.
Before fitting this lock to a fire door, always confirm suitability against the approved fire door schedule, the door manufacturer's requirements and the complete tested hardware combination. No - the 3572DX is PIN-only from the outside, with a free handle inside. If you need a keyed override cylinder (for fire brigade access, a master key system, or simply peace of mind), choose the 3572DXKO instead.

Codes and Everyday Use
Press C to clear anything already entered, press your code digits in any order, then turn the keypad knob. The latch retracts, the door opens, and the code cancels automatically as the knob is operated. From the inside, the handle always opens the door freely - no code, no key needed.
That is the clutching mechanism doing its job. Until a valid code is entered, the knob freewheels and is not connected to the latch - so forcing or wrenching it transmits nothing to the lock's internals. Enter the code and the knob engages for one operation. It is one of the reasons these locks survive decades on high-traffic commercial doors. It is a bench job with small parts - fiddly but doable. The keypad comes off the door and the code tumblers are repositioned with the supplied kit. The factory procedure is on page 4 of the Service Manual; our plain-English version is the Lockwood DX section and bench method of the code-changing guide. Golden rule: test the new code five times before you close the door.
Any 4, 5 or 6 digit code - with one mechanical rule: each digit can be used only once per code, because the code lives in a physical tumbler chamber rather than a memory chip. The digits can be pressed in any order. The C button is always the clear key and can never be part of the code. The pillar guide explains why order does not matter.
On this PIN-only model there is no key fallback - a forgotten code means the keypad comes off the door and goes to the bench for a re-code. That is why we always recommend testing the new code thoroughly before shutting the door, and noting it down somewhere secure. If a guaranteed emergency key path matters to you, choose the 3572DXKO with its keyed override cylinder instead.

The 3572DXKO adds a keyed override cylinder (60mm backset), and the 3572DXKONCYL is the same lock without the cylinder for sites fitting their own to suit an existing key system. Not as supplied. On the Lockwood mortice DX platform, hold-back is a key-operated option tied to a cylinder - the standard 3572DX (no cylinder) does not ship with it. Installation and Door Prep
On a fresh timber door with the manual in hand, a confident DIYer can do it: mounting instructions and full-size drilling templates are on pages 19-20 of the Service Manual, covering all three backsets. The 3572DX suits doors from 32mm to 50mm thick. Standard Australian commercial timber doors sit comfortably inside that range. If your door is outside it - very thin aluminium infill or an unusually thick solid-core leaf - talk to us before ordering.

Its behaviour is right for it: exit through the inside handle is single-action and never needs a code, which is the pattern egress paths demand. What the lock cannot do is make the doorset compliant by itself - that certification belongs to the whole tested assembly. Fire performance is tested and certified against complete door assemblies - leaf, frame, lock, furniture, prep and installation together - and it is the approved fire door schedule for your building that says what may go on your door. The 25 year mechanical warranty excludes corrosion damage from coastal air, salt spray and high humidity, so near the water a regular fresh-water wipe-down of the keypad, knob and furniture - and following Lockwood's published care guidance at lockweb.com.au - is what keeps both the finish and the claim alive. Lockwood branded products are covered by manufacturer warranties issued by ASSA ABLOY Australia Pty Ltd. Warranty periods vary by product type, with separate cover for mechanical components, electrical and electronic parts, keys, and finishes.

- Everbrass finishes: up to 25 years against corrosion, tarnishing and discolouration.
- Stainless steel, polished stainless steel, chrome plating and anodised finishes: typically up to 10 years.
- PVD and VIVID finishes: typically up to 10 years.
- Symmetry range finishes: typically up to 5 years.
- Decorative finishes (Antique Copper, Architectural Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Aged Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass and related variants): typically up to 2 years against corrosion.
- Unlacquered brass finishes naturally age and change appearance over time. This is not considered a defect.
- Tea staining of stainless steel is not covered where the required cleaning and maintenance have not been followed.
