McGrath 7.6mm Spindle Kit - 8mm to 7.6mm Step Down - Suits 35-60mm Doors
This McGrath split step-down spindle kit converts a standard 8mm spindle to suit commercial mortice locks that use a 7.6mm follower (lock hub). It is used when a McGrath digital lock is fitted to a commercial mortice lock body whose hub is 7.6mm rather than the more common 8mm, allowing the digital lock to drive the mortice correctly.
The kit is a passive mechanical accessory with no electronics, battery, or lock mechanism of its own. It is supplied as a split (two-part) spindle set so the external and internal handles can be matched independently to the door thickness. Three spindles are included to cover the 35mm to 60mm door thickness range in the configurations shown below.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays)
For 35mm to 47mm doors:
F35-47 (external handle) plus B35-60 (internal handle)

Frequently Asked Questions
It lets a McGrath digital lock, which drives an 8mm spindle, operate a commercial mortice lock body that uses a smaller 7.6mm follower (hub).
Fit one external (F) spindle matched to your door thickness - F35-47 for 35mm to 47mm doors or F48-60 for 48mm to 60mm doors - together with the single internal B35-60 spindle.
Doors from 35mm to 60mm thick. Confirm the finished door thickness before selecting the external spindle.
This usually means the wrong spindle length was fitted for the door thickness, or the split spindles were not matched correctly. The common DIY installation mistakes guide covers spindle and hub engagement.
Additional Information
- Commercial mortice lock bodies vary in follower size. A 7.6mm hub is common on certain commercial mortice ranges, where a standard 8mm spindle will not seat correctly.
- Because this is a split spindle set, the external and internal handles can be sized independently, which is useful when the digital lock and the mortice furniture sit at different depths.
- Correct spindle selection is essential for reliable operation - too long and the handles bind, too short and the hub does not fully engage.
- For commercial or complex mortice retrofits, Terry's offers a site survey and installation service.
