Lenlok SP-300 Extended Spindle - 300mm x 7.6mm Square

The Lenlok SP-300 is a 300mm extended square spindle manufactured to the standard 7.6mm square profile used across a wide range of Australian lock hardware. It is designed for installations where the supplied or standard-length spindle is too short — typically arising on thick doors, aluminium-framed doors, gates, or retrofits where the door thickness or hardware stack-up pushes beyond what a factory spindle can bridge.

The SP-300 is a cut-to-length spindle, meaning it can be trimmed on-site to match any specific door thickness or hardware configuration. This makes it a practical stock item for locksmiths and tradies who regularly work across varied door profiles. It is a mechanical, passive accessory with no electronic or smart lock platform dependency — it suits any lever set, latch mechanism, or smart lock internally that accepts a standard 7.6mm square drive.

Key Features

  • 300mm length — substantially longer than standard factory spindles, accommodating thick doors, gate applications, and non-standard hardware configurations where standard spindles are too short.
  • 7.6mm square profile — matches the dominant Australian square spindle standard used across lever sets, latch mechanisms, and the majority of smart lock internals.
  • Cut-to-length — the spindle can be cut on-site to the exact length required, avoiding the need to stock multiple fixed-length variants.
  • Steel construction — provides the rigidity and longevity expected of a spindle under regular operating loads.
  • Universal fit — compatible with any lock mechanism accepting a standard 7.6mm square spindle drive, regardless of brand or electronic vs mechanical type.

What's in the Box

  • 1 x SP-300 extended spindle (300mm x 7.6mm square, steel)

Suitable Uses

  • Thick timber or engineered doors where door thickness exceeds standard spindle reach
  • Aluminium-framed doors where the hardware assembly pushes the spindle requirement beyond 60-80mm
  • Gate installations requiring an extended spindle to bridge the gate frame and latch housing
  • Smart lock retrofits on non-standard doors where the supplied spindle is insufficient
  • Commercial or strata door retrofits where door thickness or hardware configuration varies from residential standard
  • Locksmith and trade applications requiring a field-adjustable spindle stock item

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this spindle be cut to a shorter length?
Yes. The 300mm length is intentionally oversized so it can be trimmed on-site to match your exact door thickness and hardware setup. A clean cut with a hacksaw or angle grinder is sufficient — allow for correct engagement depth into both sides of the lock mechanism before marking your cut length.
Is 7.6mm square the standard Australian spindle size?
Yes — 7.6mm square is the dominant standard in Australian lever sets, latch mechanisms, and the majority of smart lock internals that use a square drive. Some European hardware specifies 8mm square; always verify your lock's spindle bore before ordering.
Will this work with smart locks?
Yes, for any smart lock that uses a square 7.6mm spindle drive internally. This is common in smart lever sets and some deadbolt-style smart locks. Check your lock's installation guide to confirm whether it uses a square spindle and what the bore size is. If you are retrofitting a smart lock onto a thick door and the supplied spindle falls short, the SP-300 is the typical solution — see also our guide on wrong spindle position as a common install mistake.
What tools are needed to cut the spindle to length?
A hacksaw or angle grinder is sufficient for most steel spindles. Use a vice to hold the spindle securely during cutting. File or deburr the cut end to remove sharp edges before fitting, and ensure the cut face is square so the spindle seats cleanly in the lock hub.
How do I calculate the correct cut length?
Measure your door thickness, then add the depth each end of the spindle needs to engage into the lock hub on each side (typically 8-12mm per side, but confirm against your lock's installation instructions). The spindle must engage both hubs fully — an under-length spindle will result in handle slip or latch failure under load.

Additional Information

Measure twice before cutting
Once cut, the spindle cannot be extended. Measure door thickness and hub engagement depth carefully before trimming. A spindle that is even a few millimetres too short will result in incomplete hub engagement and unreliable handle operation. It is better to leave the spindle slightly long and recheck than to cut short.
Verify the spindle bore before ordering
While 7.6mm square is the Australian standard, some European-origin locks and a small number of Australian commercial fittings specify 8mm square. Always confirm your lock's spindle bore size against the manufacturer's installation guide or datasheet before purchase.
