The Austyle Extended Striker Plate (125mm) is jamb hardware. It mounts on the door frame at the strike, where the latch and the deadbolt engage, and it is pressed from a single piece of 304 stainless steel. It carries two openings - the upper one for the latch, the lower one for the deadbolt - and three countersunk fixing holes.
What makes it an extended plate is the 100mm side extension: the plate continues well past the strike openings to cover the face of the jamb. That matters on a rebated frame, on a jamb carrying an old cut-out from previous hardware, or anywhere the original striker no longer covers what it needs to. The 125mm overall width is the larger of the two Austyle sizes - the 85mm plate extends 60mm, and is the one to choose where the jamb is too narrow to take this plate.

Installation and Fit
Three measurements decide whether this plate suits the door. Take them off the frame, not off the lock.
- Bolt positions. The distance between the latch and the deadbolt on your lock has to line up with the two openings. Measure from the centre of one to the centre of the other with the door open and the bolts thrown.
- Jamb face available. The 100mm extension has to land on flat frame, and this is the measurement that most often rules the 125mm out. On a narrow jamb, a deeply rebated frame, or where an architrave sits tight to the strike, there may not be 100mm of flat face to land on - the 85mm plate is the one to use then.
- Existing cut-out. If you are covering old hardware damage, measure the damage itself - the point of an extended plate is that it reaches past it.
A door that needs a shove, a deadbolt that grinds, a latch that will not hold - these are striker problems far more often than lock problems. Doors drop on their hinges and frames move, and the bolt stops meeting its opening squarely. Replacing the striker and resetting its position is the correct fix; filing the old plate open is the one that comes back. Misalignment and the three common DIY mistakes both cover the diagnosis.

When a smart lock starts failing to lock reliably, the striker is worth checking before anything else. It costs a fraction of a lock, takes twenty minutes, and solves a large share of the complaints we hear. The auto-lock feature on a digital lock makes this worse, not better - it will try to throw the bolt into a misaligned opening every time the door closes, and eventually something gives.
A deadbolt only does its job if it throws fully into the frame. A partially engaged bolt looks locked and is not, and a striker opening that has shifted a few millimetres is enough to cause it. Deadbolt projection and why it matters explains what full engagement actually buys you.
If you are fitting a new Austyle set to an older frame, replace the striker while the door is apart. The old plate will rarely line up perfectly with new hardware, and doing it later means taking the door out of service twice. - Damage caused by water entering from the inside of the door (the exterior is rated IP55; internal water ingress is not covered)

- Prolonged direct exposure to sunlight or rain - the lock must be positioned under an eave or in a sheltered area
