ABUS Key Garage KG777C - Padlock-Style, Push Button Combination
The ABUS Key Garage KG777C is a portable padlock-style key and card storage unit secured by a resettable push button combination of up to ten digits. Unlike wall-mounted Key Garage models, the KG777C uses a padlock shackle to attach to gates, fences, railings, door furniture, or any suitable fixed bar - no drilling required.
The rubber-coated shackle and body help prevent surface marking on the fixture it attaches to. With the optional ABUS KG777AD automotive window adaptor, the KG777C can also be used for vehicle-based key access. For a dial combination padlock alternative, see the ABUS KG797C. No battery, app, or connectivity is required - the KG777C operates entirely mechanically.

Suitable Uses
- Gates, fences, railings, and door furniture: The shackle design attaches to any suitable bar or loop fitting, giving portable shared access without any permanent installation.
- Temporary key access where wall mounting is not possible: Suited to rental properties, construction sites, or locations where drilling or permanent hardware is not permitted.
- Holiday rentals and short-stay accommodation: Attach to a gate or door handle for keyless guest access, then reset the code between stays. For how key safes work in short-stay access management, see our guide to key safe use cases beyond the beach.
- Vehicle access when used with the KG777AD adaptor: The optional automotive window adaptor secures the KG777C to a vehicle window for use as a vehicle key safe.
- Residential and light commercial use: Suited to low key volumes (up to 5 keys) where portability is the primary requirement.
ABUS Key Garage - Item Code Family
The KG787BTC is the only model in this family with Bluetooth connectivity and an access audit trail. All other models use mechanical access only.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the KG777C be mounted on a vehicle?
Yes, when used with the optional ABUS KG777AD automotive window adaptor. This adaptor is sold separately and allows the KG777C to be attached to a vehicle window frame for vehicle-based key access. Assess the risk profile of the installation location before fitting - vehicle window mounting exposes the unit to a different risk environment than indoor or gate mounting.
Is this model suitable for fully exposed outdoor installation?
No. The KG777C is intended for indoor or protected outdoor use only. It should not be installed in a position where it is directly exposed to rain. For exposed outdoor padlock-style key storage, confirm the weather rating requirements of your application before selecting this model.
Can the push button code be changed?
Yes. The push button combination is fully resettable following the instructions supplied. The combination should be changed whenever access is handed between users - for example between guest stays or after a trade visit.
Is there a dial combination version of this padlock model?
Yes. The ABUS KG797C is the padlock-style dial combination equivalent in the Key Garage range. It uses a rotating dial mechanism rather than push buttons and also supports vehicle mounting via an automotive adaptor.
Additional Information
When to choose the KG777C over a wall-mounted model: The KG777C is selected where portability is the primary requirement - locations where wall mounting is not available, not permitted, or where the unit needs to be moved periodically. For fixed permanent installations, wall-mounted models such as the KG747LC (push button, 25 keys / 41 cards) offer greater capacity and a more stable installation. For a practical guide to working out which key storage option suits you, see our smart padlock and key safe guide.
Rubber coating: The rubber coating on the shackle and body exterior is intended to reduce marking on the fixture the unit is attached to - gates, door handles, and railings in particular. It does not add weather resistance or increase the security rating.
Capacity in practice: Key and card capacity figures assume standard flat keys and standard-sized access cards without bulky attachments. Oversized keys, fobs, or tagged key rings will reduce usable capacity. The internal cavity (63 mm W x 95 mm H x 40 mm D) is the same size as the KG767C wall-mounted model - only 5 keys fit in this depth alongside standard items.
