The ASSA ABLOY SMARTair i-max Update-On-Card iCLASS Escutcheon (SNCB43SL2V648DI) turns a standard mortice lock door into a credential-controlled access point without running a cable through the door or frame. It pairs an HID iCLASS card reader with a DDA-compliant lever handle, controls the outside lever through an electromechanical clutch and runs on three AAA batteries. This model also takes a mechanical key override - a Lockwood oval cylinder, supplied separately - so the door can still be opened with a key.
In Update-on-Card mode, access rights travel on each user's card. You manage users in SMARTair TS1000 software, each card collects its latest rights whenever it is presented at an online updater (an update point or wall updater), and the escutcheon reads those rights at the door. Nothing is wired to the door and there is no app or Wi-Fi on this tier. Update-on-Card also brings automatic cancellation of lost or stolen cards (Standalone cancels them by hand) and activation and expiry dates and times (not offered on Standalone) - the four management systems are compared on page 4 of the SMARTair Product Overview.
The escutcheon mounts over a compatible mortice lock, and the mortice lock is sold separately - the Lockwood 3782ENOHDSS, Lockwood 4782ENOHDSS and Lockwood 6782ENOHDSS bodies are built to suit SMARTair escutcheons (the Lockwood 5782ENOHDSS is the narrow option; see the Mortice Options tab). It suits doors 30-120 mm thick and is tested to EN 1906 Grade 4 for busy commercial doors. SMARTair i-max escutcheons are tested to EN 1906 Grade 4 and designed for medium to high traffic doors - offices, meeting rooms, laboratories, education campuses and healthcare buildings - where access has to be managed centrally but the doors cannot be wired. Supplied with a DDA-compliant lever handle, shaped to help people with limited grip strength. Compliance relates to the handle itself - the finished door (hardware heights, clearances and opening force) still has to be assessed as a complete system. The i-max escutcheon has been fire tested to EN 1634, the European fire-resistance test. It carries no Australian fire-resistance level of its own - in Australia, fire compliance belongs to the certified doorset (door, frame, mortice lock and hardware together). The Lockwood 782-series mortice bodies it suits are separately fire rated to AS 1905.1 on compliant fire door assemblies. The standard mortice lock body is not included - the Lockwood 3782ENOHDSS, Lockwood 4782ENOHDSS and Lockwood 6782ENOHDSS bodies suit this standard configuration (see the Mortice Options tab or the mortice locks for smart locks range). The Lockwood oval key override cylinder is supplied separately. Running Update-on-Card also needs HID iCLASS credentials, the SMARTair USB encoder, a SMARTair portable programmer (or PC-TO-LOCK) to set up each door, TS1000 software and online updaters where cards refresh.

Power Supply and Battery System

The escutcheon checks the card's rights at the door. You need the TS1000 software, a card encoder, a portable programmer (or PC-TO-LOCK) and at least one updater - see page 3 of the Product Overview.
The LED warns you well before the batteries run out. If they do go completely flat, the key override cylinder (Lockwood oval, supplied separately) opens the door so you can change them. More in what happens when the batteries die.
No. The Lockwood 3782ENOHDSS, Lockwood 4782ENOHDSS and Lockwood 6782ENOHDSS bodies are built to suit SMARTair escutcheons; pick the backset your door needs. Tubular latches are not suitable. Check your backset and ask us if you are unsure.

Update-on-Card Explained
Think of each card as carrying its own permission slip. When you add a user or change what they can open in TS1000, the change is written to that person's card the next time they present it at an online updater. At the door, this escutcheon reads the permissions off the card and decides whether to engage the outside lever. The door never needs a cable, a network point or a Wi-Fi signal. ASSA ABLOY sets out the tier on page 3 of the Product Overview.
Besides the door devices you need: a TS1000 software licence, a card encoder (the SMARTair USB encoder), a SMARTair portable programmer or PC-TO-LOCK to initialise each door, at least one online updater where cards pick up changes, and HID iCLASS cards or tags. The 10-door management kits are no longer sold as a bundle, so ask us to price the parts your site needs.
Not instantly. A change takes effect at the door once the user's card has been refreshed at an updater, so place updaters where people pass every day (the main entry or the lift lobby is typical). If you need changes to land the moment you make them, or want live door status, that is the Wireless + Openow tier.
Update-on-Card supports automatic cancellation of lost or stolen cards, where Standalone has to be cancelled by hand at each door. You cancel the card in TS1000 and issue a replacement - no lock changes and no rekeying. The feature comparison is on page 4 of the Product Overview.
Yes. Update-on-Card cards can carry activation and expiry dates and times, and TS1000 lets you build time zones and calendar schedules - handy for contractors, casual staff or a room that should only open during business hours. Standalone escutcheons do not offer activation and expiry dates (Product Overview p4).
TS1000 is the SMARTair management software - a Windows client/server package with its own database, used to configure the installation and initialise the doors. Web Manager is the browser-based front end that runs once TS1000 is set up, so users, doors, time zones, access rights and events can be handled from any device. The server needs a public IP address for Web Manager to work (Product Overview p6).
Yes - it stores approximately 1,200 events in its own memory. How those events are collected depends on the management system, so tell us how you plan to use the audit trail when we quote. Sites that want events reported as they happen, with email alerts, should look at Wireless Online.
Yes. SMARTair management systems can be combined on one site, so a building can run Update-on-Card on office doors and Wireless Online on the doors that need real-time control (system architecture, Product Overview p5). The same i-max hardware family covers every tier - compare the Standalone, UOC + Openow and Wireless + Openow equivalents of this model.
Credentials and Access Methods
HID iCLASS credentials at 13.56 MHz - cards and key-ring tags encoded by your SMARTair system. The i-max family is built for other RFID technologies too, but every i-max escutcheon we list is the iCLASS version, so order iCLASS credentials to match. Possibly. SMARTair stores its data in free memory space on the credential, so one card can also carry other services such as vending or canteen payments (Product Overview p8). Whether your existing cards have the room and the right format has to be checked, so send us the card details before you plan around them.
No - the keypad is part of the outside escutcheon on the keypad model, so choose the keypad version from the start if any user will need PIN or card + PIN entry. It reads the same HID iCLASS cards.
Not on this tier. Update-on-Card is a card-based system with no app. For phone keys, the UOC + Openow escutcheon has Openow built in; this escutcheon can also be upgraded with the BLE module, and phone keys need the Openow mobile access licence. See Bluetooth access explained.

Credentials are written with the SMARTair USB encoder connected to TS1000. Sites using Web Manager can add a Web Encoder licence (SNCCLICWEBENC30 for up to 10 or 30 doors, SNCCLICWEBENCOD for 75 doors or unlimited) to encode from the browser - call us to quote.
Yes, SMARTair has wall readers for automated doors, gates and lifts, but check the card technology first. The SMARTair i-Reader R4N Slim wall reader for Update-on-Card we list reads MIFARE, not iCLASS, so it will not read the same cards as this escutcheon. Tell us what the second opening is and we will match a reader to your credentials.
Key Override, Power and Batteries
Three AAA LR03 alkaline batteries in the inside unit. ASSA ABLOY rates them at approximately 75,000-105,000 openings or up to 2 years, whichever comes first - a heavily used door will reach the opening count well before the 2 years. An LED at the escutcheon warns when the batteries are getting low. The clock and calendar are held for a short time while the batteries are swapped, so change them promptly and do not leave the unit sitting empty. Access rights live on the cards, so they are not affected by a battery change.
A Lockwood oval cylinder, supplied separately. We can supply one keyed to suit your existing master key system - send us the key number or system details when ordering. Learn more about how a key override works.
Use the override key to open the door, then fit fresh batteries. Keep the override keys under the same control as any master key, because they bypass the electronic audit trail. See when the batteries die.
The L1S model without key override has no cylinder hole, so there is no key to lose or copy and every entry from outside is by credential. The trade-off is that a door with flat batteries has to be opened with the SMARTair portable programmer. Choose it where key control matters more than a mechanical fallback.
Yes. The i-max internal panic function leaves the inside handle free, so the escutcheon never traps anyone in the room - it only controls the outside lever. Emergency egress requirements for your building still need to be checked by your certifier.
Fit, Mortice Lock and Installation
The Lockwood 782-series ENOHDSS bodies built for SMARTair escutcheons: Lockwood 3782ENOHDSS, Lockwood 4782ENOHDSS and Lockwood 6782ENOHDSS. Pick the backset your door needs; the lock body is sold separately. The Lockwood 5782ENOHDSS is the narrow body and pairs with the narrow mortice version of this escutcheon.
64 mm - the standard mortice configuration, measured between the lever spindle and the cylinder position on the mortice lock body. If you are fitting over an existing lock, measure the body (backset and centres) before ordering - our backset guide shows how to measure a lock.
No. The escutcheon drives the lock through a split spindle and clutch, which needs the spindle hub of a mortice lock body. See mortice lever and escutcheon hardware and the mortice locks for smart locks range.
Doors from 30 to 120 mm thick, depending on the spindle configuration. Measure the door itself, not the frame - measuring door thickness shows how.
It does not throw a bolt of its own. The 7.8 mm split spindle lets the inside and outside levers work independently, and the electromechanical clutch connects the outside lever only when a valid credential is presented. The mortice lock keeps doing the mechanical locking and latching. A wrong spindle is one of the common installation mistakes.
A competent locksmith or access control installer should fit it. The door has to be prepared to the drilling template, the mortice body fitted and the door initialised with the portable programmer. The template PDF carries no scale statement, so check it against the hardware before marking a door. Read when DIY makes sense, or book our installation service.
The escutcheon signals internal handle use, and door position can be reported with an optional door sensor (not included). Real-time door status alerts are a Wireless Online feature, so ask us which setup gives you the reporting you want.

The letter after SN gives the tier: A = Standalone, C = Update-on-Card, B = UOC + Openow, Z = Wireless + Openow. 43 is card only and 47 adds the keypad. SL2V takes a key override cylinder; SL1S is the blind model with no override. 648 is the standard mortice configuration and 908 the narrow one. Compatible Mortice Locks for SMARTair Escutcheons
SMARTair i-max escutcheons work with commercial mortice lock bodies - the escutcheon drives the lock through an electromechanical clutch and split spindle, which needs the spindle and case of a mortice lock. Tubular latches are not suitable. - Stainless steel does not mean stain-free. Tea staining is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
- Cosmetic, decorative and appearance damage is not covered.
- Battery failure or battery leakage damage is not covered.
What the Warranty Covers
- Defects in material and workmanship within the applicable period.
- Assessment by ASSA ABLOY to determine repair, replacement with the same or closest equivalent product, or refund of purchase price.
- Remedy determined at ASSA ABLOY’s discretion.
Common Exclusions
- Normal wear and tear.
- Misuse, abuse or installation outside published technical specifications.
- Improper maintenance or neglect.
- Unauthorised modification or repair.
- Use of non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or substitute components.
- Exposure to corrosive environments including coastal air, salt spray, chemicals, contamination or high humidity.
- Removal, refitment, freight or labour charges.
- Second-hand or imported products not sold through authorised Australian channels.
Warranty Claim Process
- Retain proof of original purchase.
- Return the product to the original authorised retailer where applicable.
- If claiming directly, obtain a case number before returning goods.
- Securely package returned goods and clearly reference the case number.
- Warranty assessment determines repair, replacement or refund.
Australian Consumer Law
ASSA ABLOY warranties operate in addition to rights available under the Australian Consumer Law. Goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. Customers may be entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
Where a product fails to meet acceptable quality standards and the failure does not amount to a major failure, the customer is entitled to repair or replacement.
