The ASSA ABLOY SMARTair Wall Reader PIN/Prox is a standalone electronic access control reader designed for use with electric locks, automatic doors, gates and other controlled access points.
This model combines PIN keypad authentication with HID iCLASS RFID credential support, allowing users to unlock doors using a code, an RFID credential, or a combination of both depending on system configuration.
Operating in Standalone SMARTair mode, the reader stores user permissions locally and can control connected locking hardware through its integrated relay output.
This type of reader is commonly installed in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, education campuses and other locations where reliable credential-based access control is required without complex network infrastructure.

How the SMARTair Standalone Reader is Used
In standalone mode the reader stores user credentials and PIN codes directly within the device. When a valid credential or PIN is presented, the reader activates its relay output to unlock the connected door or access control device.

- Program authorised PIN codes and RFID credentials.
- Users gain access by presenting a credential or entering a PIN.
Standalone readers are ideal for locations where a simple and reliable electronic access solution is required without connecting to a centralised access control network.
Specifications & Reader Operation
- System architecture: Standalone (offline). Upgradeable to Update-on-Card and then Wireless Online by adding an RF module and firmware upgrade (R4 circuit required).
- Credentials: HID iCLASS, MIFARE Classic and Ultralight, SKIDATA and DESFire, plus PIN entry via the integrated keypad; read/write distance approx. 2-4 cm.
- Capacity: Normal mode 1500 users and 600 events; High-traffic mode with an unlimited number of users filtered into 48 groups and 1000 events.
- Time management: real-time clock and calendar; 30 time zones with 5 time periods; up to 20 operating-mode changes per door per day; yearly calendar; automatic daylight-saving change; clock/calendar retained for 48 hours without power (internal backup battery).
- Operating modes: Standard, Standard ADA (double opening time), Passage, Double-user and First-user.
- Power: cabled 12-24 VAC / VDC through the relay board; maximum consumption (reader + relay board) 500 mA @12V or 250 mA @24V. Combine with an electric strike, electromagnetic lock or other electromechanical device; cabling required, power supply not included.
- Emergency and service: jack connection for the portable programmer and emergency kit; LED (green / red) and buzzer for access-authorised / denied signalling; upgradeable firmware.
- Openow (optional): Openow smartphone access can be added by fitting the Openow BLE 4.2 module and a firmware upgrade.
- Environmental: IP55 (wall reader); operating temperature -20 C to +80 C (reader) and -10 C to +80 C (relay board); up to 85% humidity; high traffic volume.
- Certifications: CE (EMC, R&TTE), RoHS, REACH, WEEE, RCM and R-NZ.

ASSA ABLOY branded products sold in Australia are covered by manufacturer warranties issued by ASSA ABLOY Australia Pty Ltd. Warranty coverage varies depending on mechanical components, electronic components, cylinders and finish categories.

- Stainless steel does not mean stain-free. Tea staining is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
- Cosmetic, decorative and appearance damage is not covered.
- Battery failure or battery leakage damage is not covered.
What the Warranty Covers
- Defects in material and workmanship within the applicable period.
- Assessment by ASSA ABLOY to determine repair, replacement with the same or closest equivalent product, or refund of purchase price.
- Remedy determined at ASSA ABLOY’s discretion.
Common Exclusions
- Normal wear and tear.
- Misuse, abuse or installation outside published technical specifications.
- Improper maintenance or neglect.
- Unauthorised modification or repair.
- Use of non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or substitute components.
- Exposure to corrosive environments including coastal air, salt spray, chemicals, contamination or high humidity.
- Removal, refitment, freight or labour charges.
- Second-hand or imported products not sold through authorised Australian channels.
Warranty Claim Process
- Retain proof of original purchase.
- Return the product to the original authorised retailer where applicable.
- If claiming directly, obtain a case number before returning goods.
- Securely package returned goods and clearly reference the case number.
- Warranty assessment determines repair, replacement or refund.
Australian Consumer Law
ASSA ABLOY warranties operate in addition to rights available under the Australian Consumer Law. Goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. Customers may be entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
Where a product fails to meet acceptable quality standards and the failure does not amount to a major failure, the customer is entitled to repair or replacement.
