BDS Mortice Magnetic Gate Latch Body to suit BORG Mech-Digital Keypad Series 2000 Or 4000 (Trencab)
The TML25DGT is a face fixed mortice magnetic latch body for keypad gates, made by Trencab and listed in our BDS range. It is made to suit Borg 2000 series and 4000 series mechanical digital keypads, such as the BL2000KSCNEW knob keypad and the BL4401KMGPRO lever keypad, and it pairs a 25mm backset latch body with a magnetic strike plate. Either part can go on the gate or the post, on metal or timber gates, doors and access panels in homes and light commercial sites.
Mortice magnetic latches tend to be chosen for narrow gate stiles, where a standard 60mm latch will not fit. If your gate is keyed rather than keypad operated, the TML25E is the euro cylinder version of this latch.
Magnetic Latches Need a Steady Gate
This latch will not stop a swinging gate, so a gate stop has to be fitted, but a stop is not a fix for a gate that moves. A small amount of gate or post movement is enough to put the latch pin out of line with the strike, and about half of our own magnetic latch installations needed a return visit to realign. On most narrow keypad gates we now fit Borg's 28mm latch instead, sold for the 2000 series as the BLS272000RH and BLS272000LH.
This latch will not stop a swinging gate, so a gate stop has to be fitted, but a stop is not a fix for a gate that moves. Installation Notes
Marking Out and Drilling the Latch Body
- Decide whether the latch body goes in the gate or the post, then run painter's tape along the faces and edges of both at the height you are working. The marks are easier to see and the finish is less likely to scratch.
- Start with a level reference line 40mm below the centre of the keypad lever, marked on the faces and edges of both the gate and the post. Every other measurement is taken up from it.
- The latch body gets a vertical centreline down the edge, and the keypad hardware gets vertical centrelines on both faces, 25mm in from the front edge.
- Sit the bottom of the template on the reference line, line it up with your centrelines, mark the holes and check your measurements before drilling. Trencab suggests an adjustable set square and a centre punch for accurate marking.
- Pilot holes keep the step drill or holesaw from walking off your marks, and a file takes off the sharp points so the latch body slides in.
- If your keypad hardware has a coil spring around its spindle, take it off and fit the coil spring from the box, and make sure the codepad locating pin is fitted so the codepad lines up with the latch body.
- Do not use power tools to attach the latch body or the strike. The full steps are on page 1 of Trencab's installation sheet.
Fitting the Magnetic Strike
- Fit the strike only once the latch body is fully installed, and make sure the gate is hanging true first, because misalignment left unaddressed is a common installation mistake.
- Mark the latch pin centreline 61mm up from the reference line, or take it from the template.
- Close the gate, measure exactly where the centre of the latch pin sits, then mark and centre punch that point. A pin that sits even slightly out of line will not throw into the strike.
- Drill a pilot hole, then open it up to 25mm.
- Clean away every metal shaving before you take the strike out of its plastic bag, because shavings collect inside the magnetic cup.
- Where the gap between the gate and the post is larger than 8mm, use the 2.5mm strike plate packers.

Additional Information
- Alignment and movement: A magnetic latch only works while the pin and the strike stay in line. Sag, hinges, ground movement and wind all shift a gate over time, so look for the signs that call for caution before choosing this style of latch, and see common gate latch problems.
- Our field experience: After the return visits our magnetic latch jobs needed, we now strongly prefer Borg's 28mm latch and rarely fit a TML25. There are still a few situations where one makes sense, and other gate factors can change the answer for your gate.
- Care: Trencab says not to lubricate the latch body, and there are no serviceable parts inside. Removing the latch case screws or using other fixings voids the warranty. If the latch stops catching, check whether the gate has moved rather than reaching for a lubricant.
