Borg BL2620MGBC Mechanical Digital Lock – Knob/Knob Back-to-Back – External Grade – Polished Chrome
The Borg BL2620MGBC is a fully mechanical digital lock in a knob/knob back-to-back (BTB) configuration with an external grade polished chrome finish. Both sides of the door have an identical knob keypad — the correct PIN must be entered to operate the knob from either side. There is no free inside egress; code is required from both the outside and inside.
The external series finish uses special layers of polished chrome with 316 grade stainless steel internal components, warranted to resist corrosion for up to one year in normal weather conditions. This makes it suitable for sheltered external doors and external-grade applications but not suitable for coastal or saline environments — for coastal or marine applications, see the Borg Marine Grade Pro range. Fully mechanical — no batteries. Suits doors from 35mm to 80mm thick. Code change uses the traditional Borg tumbler system (lock removal required); over 8,000 combinations available.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
The BL2620MGBC has a knob keypad on both sides of the door. Both knobs are clutched — free-turning only after the correct PIN is entered. There is no free inside egress: the correct code must be entered from whichever side you are on. The same code operates both sides. Confirm this suits your application before purchasing — if free egress from inside is required, this is not the correct product.
The BL2620MGBC uses an external grade polished chrome plate finish — not a marine grade or MG Pro 2 coating. It is warranted for corrosion resistance in normal weather conditions only. Do not specify this lock for coastal, beachside, poolside, or salt-laden environments. For marine grade construction, see the Borg Marine Grade Pro range.
Special layers of polished chrome finish with 316 grade stainless steel internal components. Warranted to resist corrosion in normal weather conditions for 12 months from date of sale. Not suitable for coastal or saline environments.
This model uses a tumbler-based code system. To change the PIN, the lock must be removed from the door. Remove the 4 red screws, carefully lift the cover plate (springs attached), hold the C tumbler depressed, and use the supplied tweezers to reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers. Over 8,000 combinations; code length adjustable 3–7 digits.
The BL2620MGBC includes a holdback facility. Once the knob has been turned to retract the latch, the holdback can be engaged to keep the knob (and latch) in the retracted position — allowing free passage without code entry. To exit holdback, turn the knob and release. Useful when the door needs to remain open for extended periods.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For heavy duty: consider the Borg BL7701, Lockwood DX, or Carbine CDL7000.
Accepts one active PIN code at a time. The same code operates both sides.
The inside knob requires the correct PIN before it will retract the latch. Confirm this suits your application and complies with any applicable fire egress or building regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BL2620MGBC a Marine Grade lock?
No. The BL2620MGBC is an external grade lock, not Marine Grade Pro. It uses special layers of polished chrome finish with 316 stainless steel internal components, warranted to resist corrosion in normal weather conditions for 12 months. It is not suitable for coastal, beachside, poolside, or saline environments. For Marine Grade Pro construction (MG Pro 2 coating, 1,000hr salt spray tested), see the Borg Marine Grade Pro range such as the BL2601MGPRO or BL2601MGPROECP.
Can I open the door from inside without the code?
No. The BL2620MGBC has knob keypads on both sides. Both knobs are clutched and require the correct PIN to retract the latch. There is no free inside egress. If you need free egress from inside (inside lever always free), see the single-sided BL2600MGBC, or a BL5001/BL2601 series with a free inside lever. Confirm BTB code-required-both-sides suits your application and complies with any fire egress requirements before purchasing.
What is the holdback facility and how do I use it?
The holdback facility allows the latch bolt to be held in the retracted position, keeping the door able to open and close freely without entering the code each time. To engage: enter the code, turn the knob to retract the latch, then press the holdback button (or turn and hold in the open position, depending on model configuration). To exit holdback: turn the knob to release. Useful during periods of high through-traffic when repeated code entry is inconvenient.
How do I change the PIN code?
The lock must be removed from the door. Remove the 4 red screws, carefully lift the cover plate (springs are attached), hold the C tumbler depressed at all times, then use the supplied tweezers to reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers. All square cut-outs must face outward; coloured marks must face upward. Test the new code before reinstalling. The code is non-sequential — the buttons can be pressed in any order. Spare tumblers allow code length to be adjusted from 3 to 7 digits.
What door thickness does this lock suit?
The BL2620MGBC suits doors from 35mm to 80mm thick using the spindles supplied. This is a wider door thickness range than many BL5000 series locks (which typically go to 54mm). Confirm your door thickness before ordering and select the appropriate spindle length from those supplied.
What is the difference between BL2620MGBC and BL2600MGBC?
The BL2600MGBC is single-sided — one knob keypad on the outside, a free-turning inside handle. The inside can always be opened without a code. The BL2620MGBC is the back-to-back version — knob keypads on both sides, code required to exit as well as enter. Choose BL2620MGBC where code control in both directions is required; choose BL2600MGBC where free inside egress is needed.
Additional Information
This lock is not rated for coastal or saline use. The polished chrome external grade finish will corrode in environments with airborne salt, high humidity, poolside chemicals, or direct saltwater exposure. For any installation near the ocean, a canal, a pool using salt chlorination, or a beachside location, specify Borg Marine Grade Pro products instead. Fitting an external grade lock in a marine environment will void the corrosion warranty.
The tumbler code can be set on the bench before installation. Set and verify both sides' codes before mounting. This avoids removing a fitted keypad for the first code change and lets you confirm both sides work correctly before the lock is installed in the door.
Select the spindle length based on door thickness. General rule: door thickness + 30mm = minimum spindle length (15mm must seat into each keypad). For a 44mm door, use a minimum 74mm spindle. Do not cut the spindle shorter than necessary. An undersized spindle may disengage if the door is slammed.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
