Borg BL5051 Mechanical Digital Lock – Back-to-Back Lever/Lever – Multiple Finishes – Including Marine Grade Pro
The Borg BL5051 is a medium-heavy duty fully mechanical digital lock in a back-to-back (BTB) lever/lever configuration. Both sides of the door carry a full keypad and lever — a code is required to operate the door from either direction. There is no free inside lever; access from inside requires entering the correct PIN. Each keypad has an independent coding chamber, allowing a different code to be set on each side if required.
The BL5051 is fire rated to AS 1905.1-2005 (up to 4 hours depending on doorset) and cycle tested to 100,000+ operations. It is available in three finishes. The BL5051MGPRO (black) is not simply a colour variant — it carries Marine Grade Pro construction with 316 stainless steel internal components and MG Pro marine coating, 1,000hr salt spray tested. The BL5051MG and BL5051SC use standard external grade or PVD coatings and are not rated for coastal environments.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
Successfully tested up to 4 hours (depending on doorset) on fire door assemblies in accordance with AS 1905.1-2005 Fire Resistant Doorsets.
The black finish variant (BL5051MGPRO) is built with 316 stainless steel internal components and MG Pro black marine external coating, tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray with corrosion resistance warranted for 12 months. This is a fundamentally different specification to the BL5051MG (chrome plate external grade) and BL5051SC (satin chrome PVD). Choose BL5051MGPRO for coastal, beachside, pool, and marine environments. Choose BL5051MG or BL5051SC for sheltered or interior applications.
This external grade lock is designed for weather-resistant external use but is not rated for coastal, beachside, or saltwater-adjacent environments. For marine-grade construction, see the BL5051MGPROECP.
Borg warrants corrosion resistance for 12 months from date of sale under specified conditions.
This model uses a tumbler-based code system. To change the PIN, the lock must be removed and the cover plate removed (4 red screws). Hold the C tumbler depressed and use the supplied tweezers to reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers. For on-door code change, see the BL5051MGPROECP or BL5051MGECP.
Full keypads on both sides of the door. A code must be entered to open the door from either direction. There is no free egress from the inside — confirm this suits your application and complies with fire egress or building regulations.
Each keypad has its own independent coding chamber. Both sides can share the same code, or each can be set to a different code independently. The free passage function can also be engaged or disengaged per side independently.
The inside keypad requires the correct PIN before the lever operates. Confirm this complies with any fire egress or building regulations before purchasing.
After entering the code and rotating the lever, press F to engage free passage mode – that side's lever becomes free-turning without requiring the code on each use. To exit free passage: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. The free passage function can be permanently disabled using the included plug.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For maximum heavy duty: consider the Lockwood DX, Borg 7701, or Carbine CDL7000 Series.
Each keypad accepts one active PIN code at a time (codes can differ between sides).

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this lock require a code from the inside?
The BL5051 is the back-to-back version of the BL5001. Unlike the BL5001 where the inside lever is always free to turn, the BL5051 has a full keypad on both sides — a code is required from whichever side you are on. This provides controlled access in both directions. If you need free egress from the inside (no code to exit), see the single-sided BL5001 range instead.
Can each side have a different code?
Yes. Each keypad has its own independent coding chamber. Both sides can share the same code, or each side can be set to a completely different code. The free passage function can also be engaged or exited independently per side.
How does the free passage function work on the BL5051?
Enter the correct code on one side, rotate the lever, then press the F button while the lever is still rotated. That side's lever is now free-turning. To exit free passage: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. Free passage can be engaged and exited independently on each side. If free passage is never needed, insert the included plug behind the F button slot to permanently deactivate the function on that side.
Why is the BL5051MGPRO (black) better than BL5051MG or BL5051SC for coastal use?
The BL5051MGPRO uses 316 stainless steel internal components and MG Pro 2 black marine external coating, tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray. The BL5051MG (chrome plate) and BL5051SC (PVD satin chrome) use standard external grade or decorative finishes which are designed for normal weather conditions only. In coastal environments, salt air accelerates corrosion in standard finishes — the MG Pro 2 coating and 316 SS internals are specifically engineered to resist this.
What latch do I need for a narrow frame?
The standard 60mm backset tubular latch (which is 80mm long behind the faceplate) fits comfortably into a 100×50mm door frame. If the frame is narrower, a 28mm backset narrow stile latch (BLS275000) is available separately. Confirm the frame dimensions before ordering.
Which spindle do I use for my door thickness?
Two spindles are supplied (80mm and 90mm). Use the longest that fits. The general rule is: door thickness + 30mm = minimum spindle length (15mm must seat into each lock body). For example, a 50mm door needs at least an 80mm spindle. Do not cut the spindle shorter than necessary. Spindles can be cut from the inside handle end only.
Can I reverse the handing on site?
Yes. All BL5051 units are factory set for right-hand doors. To change to left-hand: remove the rubber grommet at the base of each keypad handle, use the included hex wrench to remove the grub screw, rotate the handle 180° and refit. Handing is determined from the outside of the door: right hand = hinges on the right; left hand = hinges on the left, regardless of swing direction.
Additional Information
For the tumbler code system, codes can be set with the lock on or off the door. Set and verify both side codes on the bench before installation. This avoids removing a fitted lock for the first code change and lets you confirm both sides work correctly before mounting.
Monthly: apply a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (GT85 or equivalent) to both keypad and lever surfaces; wipe off excess. Do not use oil-based lubricants. Annually: remove the lock and spray internally through the button holes; test all buttons and levers. Refer to the Borg Servicing Guide PDF for full maintenance instructions.
The BL5051 is fire rated to AS 1905.1-2005. When specifying for fire door use, confirm that all other hardware in the assembly is also fire-rated and compatible with the doorset certification. The fire rating depends on the doorset tested — confirm with the doorset manufacturer. Also note that the BTB configuration requires code entry from inside — confirm this complies with emergency egress requirements for your specific application.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled.
