Borg Mechanical-Digital BL5001 Lever/Lever 8mm Drive - Fire Rated. Multiple Finishes – Including Marine Grade Pro
The Borg BL5001 is a medium-heavy duty fully mechanical digital lever/lever lock from the BL5000 series. The external lever is clutched until the correct PIN is entered; the inside lever is always free to turn for immediate egress. The lock is fire rated to AS 1905.1-2005 (up to 4 hours depending on doorset) and cycle tested to 100,000 operations.
The BL5001 is available in five finishes. The BL5001MGPRO (black) is not simply a colour choice — it carries Marine Grade Pro construction with 316 stainless steel internal components and MG Pro external coating, 1,000hr salt spray tested, and corrosion resistance warranted for 12 months. The remaining four finishes (SS, SC, MG, PB) use standard PVD or external grade coatings and are suited to sheltered or internal applications. See the variant table below for full comparisons.
Code change on all BL5001 models uses the tumbler system — the lock must be removed from the door to rearrange the internal red coded and blue uncoded tumblers. For on-door ECP code change combined with Marine Grade Pro construction, see the BL5001MGPROECP.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
Successfully tested up to 4 hours (depending on doorset) on fire door assemblies in accordance with AS 1905.1-2005 Fire Resistant Doorsets.
The black variant of the BL5001 uses 316 stainless steel internal components with MG Pro marine external coating, tested to 1,000 continuous hours of salt spray. This makes it a fundamentally different product to the other BL5001 finishes, which use standard PVD or external grade coatings. Choose BL5001MGPRO for coastal, beachside, pool, and marine environments. Choose SC, SS, MG, or PB for sheltered or interior applications.
Borg warrants corrosion resistance for 12 months from date of sale under specified conditions.
This model uses a tumbler-based code system. To change the PIN, the lock must be removed from the door. Remove the 4 red screws, lift the cover plate, hold the C tumbler depressed, then reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers using the supplied tweezers. For on-door code change without removal, see the BL5001MGPROECP.
After entering the correct code and rotating the lever, press the F button to engage free passage mode – the lever becomes free-turning without requiring code entry for each use. To exit free passage mode: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. The free passage function can be permanently deactivated using the supplied deactivation plug if not required.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For maximum heavy duty: consider the Lockwood DX, Borg 7701, or Carbine CDL7000 Series.
Accepts one active PIN code at a time.

Borg BL5001 – Item Codes and Finish Variants
The BL5001 is available in five finish variants. The BL5001MGPRO (black) is NOT simply a colour option — it carries Marine Grade Pro construction with 316 stainless steel internals and 1,000hr salt spray testing. All other variants use standard PVD or external grade coatings.
The black finish variant (BL5001MGPRO) is built with 316 stainless steel internal components and MG Pro black external marine grade coating. It is tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray and corrosion resistance is warranted for 12 months. This is a fundamentally different specification to the other colour variants which use standard PVD or external grade coatings. Choose BL5001MGPRO for coastal, beachside, and marine environments. Choose other variants for sheltered or interior applications.
All BL5001 variants use the tumbler code system (lock removal required to change code) and suit doors 35–54mm thick. For on-door ECP code change and Marine Grade Pro construction in a single unit, see the BL5001MGPROECP.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change the PIN code?
The code must be changed with the lock removed from the door. Turn the keypad face-down, remove the 4 red screws and lift the cover plate carefully (springs are attached). Hold the C tumbler depressed at all times. Using the included tweezers, reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers to set your new code. All square cut-outs must face outward and coloured marks must face upward. Replace the cover, tighten the screws, and test the new code before refitting. The code is non-sequential – 1234 can be entered as 4321, 3412, etc. You can set 3 to 7 digit codes using the spare tumblers provided.
Is the BL5001MGPRO (black) the same as other BL5001 variants?
No. The BL5001MGPRO has 316 stainless steel internal components with MG Pro marine external coating, tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray. The other BL5001 variants (SS, SC, MG, PB) use PVD or standard external grade coatings and are not built to the same marine grade specification. If the installation is in a coastal, beachside, pool, or saltwater-adjacent environment, the BL5001MGPRO is the correct choice within this range — or consider the BL5001MGPROECP if on-door code change is also required.
What is the difference between BL5001 and BL5001MGPROECP?
The BL5001MGPROECP has Easicode Pro (ECP) on-door code change (no lock removal required) and suits doors up to 80mm thick. The BL5001 requires lock removal to change the code and suits doors up to 54mm thick. Both are fire rated and both have Marine Grade Pro options. If frequent code changes are needed without a locksmith, the ECP model is the better choice.
How does the free passage function work?
Enter the correct code, rotate the lever, then press F while the lever is rotated. The lever is now free-turning. To exit: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. To permanently remove the free passage function: remove the 4 red screws on the back of the keypad, depress the F tumbler with a finger, lift it out with the tweezers, replace the cover and screws.
Additional Information
For the tumbler code system, the code can be set with the lock on or off the door. It is highly recommended to set and verify the new code on the bench before installation. This avoids having to remove a fitted lock for the first code change and lets you test the code thoroughly before the lock is in place.
The BL5001 is fire rated to AS 1905.1-2005. Confirm that all other hardware in the fire door assembly (hinges, seals, closers) is also fire-rated and compatible with the doorset certification before specifying. The fire rating is door assembly dependent — confirm with the doorset manufacturer.
Monthly: apply a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (GT85 or equivalent) to the keypad and lever surfaces; wipe off excess. Do not use oil-based lubricants. Annually: remove the lock and spray internally through the button holes; test all buttons and lever operation. Refer to the Borg Servicing Guide PDF for full instructions.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.

How a Warranty Claim Works
Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor for Borg Locks. A detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
Contact Terry’s Locksmiths first — we will assess the issue and manage the warranty process with LSC on your behalf. You do not need to contact LSC or Borg Locks UK directly.
