The Borg BL4401KMGPROECP is the keypad-only version of the BL4401 Marine Grade Pro gate lock - a fully mechanical digital keypad in black Marine Grade Pro finish. It supplies the external keypad unit only - no inside handle, no latch, no lock case. It is designed for fitting onto a compatible Borg gate lock body, making it the right choice when the inside handle or an existing lock body is already in place and only the keypad needs replacing or upgrading.

The keypad features Easicode Pro (ECP) on-door code changing - the code is changed in under 30 seconds on the door without removing any hardware. The Marine Grade Pro external coating and 316 stainless steel internal components provide 1,000-hour salt spray resistance, making it suitable for coastal environments, marinas, gates exposed to salt air, and external timber gates and sheds. No batteries are required at any point in the product's life.

For the complete lock with inside handle, latch and all fixings, see the BL4401MGPROECP (full lock). For a back-to-back gate installation, see the BL4441MGPROECP.

Estimated Warehouse Dispatch
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
Keypad Only - Lock Body Required Separately
This product is the external keypad unit only. It does not include an inside handle, latch, strike plate, or lock case. It must be fitted onto a compatible Borg gate lock body. If you need a complete ready-to-install gate lock, see the BL4401MGPROECP (full lock with lever, latch and all fixings). See the Compatible Locks section below for the full-lock hosts this keypad fits onto.
Marine Grade Pro - 1,000 Hour Salt Spray Tested
Marine Grade Pro 2 (MG Pro 2) construction - black external marine grade coating and 316 stainless steel internal components. Tested to 1,000 hours salt spray, making it appropriate for direct coastal and marine environments within approximately 1km of salt water - marinas, waterfront gates, exposed external gates and sheds near the ocean. For further detail on what MG Pro means in practice, see MG Pro salt spray ratings explained and Lockwood vs Borg vs Carbine corrosion comparison.
Easicode Pro - On-Door Code Change in Under 30 Seconds
Easicode Pro (ECP) allows the access code to be changed while the keypad remains installed on the gate - no tools, no lock removal. You need to know the current code and have the supplied code change key (a small pin that inserts into the star button). The process takes under 30 seconds. Over 4,000 non-sequential code combinations. See the full step-by-step procedure at Changing Codes - Borg ECP method and ECP steps in detail. For a comparison of ECP vs the standard tumbler method, see ECP explained.
Designed for medium duty gate and external applications in coastal and marine environments
Not suitable for high-traffic commercial use
For maximum heavy duty, consider the Borg BL7701 or the full Digital Mechanical Locks range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a complete lock?
No. This product is the external keypad lever assembly only. It does not include an inside handle, latch, strike plate, or lock body. If you need a complete ready-to-install gate lock, see the BL4401MGPROECP full lock.
How does Easicode Pro code change work?
Enter the current code, then insert the code change key (pin) into the hole in the star button and hold it fully depressed. Press C to clear the old code, press the new digits, press them all again to confirm, then release the code change key. Press C or rotate the lever to set. The whole process takes under 30 seconds on the door - no lock removal required. Always test the new code five times before leaving the gate unattended. See the full ECP step-by-step.
Is this suitable for coastal and marine environments?
Yes. Marine Grade Pro 2 construction with black marine grade external coating and 316 stainless steel internals gives 1,000-hour salt spray resistance. It is appropriate for gates within approximately 1km of salt water - marinas, waterfront properties, coastal suburbs. See MG Pro salt spray ratings explained.
What happens if the code is forgotten?
If the code is lost, the lock body must be removed from the gate. With the lock removed, turn the keypad over to reveal the 12 portholes on the back. Press C to reset any depressed buttons. Look through each porthole - coded buttons show a red line closest to the centre; uncoded buttons show a blue line. This identifies the current code without needing to break the lock. See the bench method for lost code recovery.
Will this keypad fit my existing Borg gate lock?
The BL4401KMGPROECP is designed for the BL4400 series gate lock bodies. It shares the same keypad footprint as the BL4401, BL4441 and BL4409 full locks. It should also fit the BL2601 series (knob/lever configuration) which shares the same keypad design and spindle. If you are unsure whether your existing lock is compatible, contact us with the model number on the lock body before ordering.

Additional Information

When would I choose this keypad-only unit over the full lock?
The keypad-only is the right choice when you are replacing a worn or damaged keypad on an existing BL4400 series lock body where the inside handle, latch and body are still in good condition. It is also used in installations where the builder or locksmith is sourcing the lock body separately (for example, a paired back-to-back installation where two keypads are needed on one lock body). If you are starting from scratch, always order the full lock rather than trying to piece together the components separately. See our guide to retrofit kits and keypad-only units.
Gate stile width considerations
The BL4400 series keypad is 41mm wide - designed for standard timber and aluminium gate stiles. If your gate post is a narrow aluminium extrusion (50x50mm or 65x65mm), the keypad may still fit depending on the exact stile profile and how the lock body is fixed. See how to measure your gate stile and why narrow gate posts cause problems before ordering. For a back-to-back installation (keypads on both sides of the gate), see why double-sided gate locks are worth considering.
4,000+ vs 8,000+ combinations
The ECP keypad (this product) offers 4,000+ combinations. The non-ECP tumbler-based BL4401KMGPRO sibling offers 8,000+ combinations because it uses a different code-setting mechanism. The trade-off is that on-door code change (under 30 seconds with ECP) is not available on the tumbler model - the lock must come off the gate. For most gate applications, 4,000+ combinations is more than sufficient. See ECP vs tumbler code change methods compared.
Warranty
Borg Locks Warranty - 12 Months (Australia)
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled - doing so will invalidate the warranty.

In-Depth Q&A - Borg BL4401KMGPROECP

Installation and Compatibility

What tools are needed to install this keypad onto an existing lock body?
Standard installation onto an existing BL4400 series lock body requires a screwdriver only. The keypad uses M4 stainless steel machine screws that thread into the existing lock body. No drilling is required if replacing a keypad on an existing BL4400 installation. If installing onto a new lock body for the first time, a drill with an appropriate hole saw is needed for the keypad bore and the spindle hole. The keypad is non-handed and can be oriented for either left or right hand gates without any modification - just position the lever in the correct direction before tightening the fixings.
Does this keypad fit aluminium gates as well as timber gates?
Yes. The BL4400 series keypad is designed for wooden, timber, and aluminium gate and shed applications. The M4 stainless steel fixings suit gate posts and door stiles up to 85mm thick. For narrow aluminium extrusions (50x50mm or 65x65mm), the stile width itself is usually sufficient for the 41mm-wide keypad, but you need to confirm the latch/lock body has a suitable fixing depth. See the four narrow-stile answers explained.

Marine Grade and Environment

What does 1,000-hour salt spray tested mean in practice?
The 1,000-hour salt spray test exposes the lock to a continuous fine mist of sodium chloride solution (similar to concentrated sea air) for 1,000 hours. Passing this test means the lock can resist the level of salt air corrosion typically found within approximately 1km of the ocean coastline, including direct coastal environments and marina berths. It does not mean the lock is waterproof or submersible - the test is about corrosion resistance from airborne salt, not immersion. For comparison, the standard (non-MG Pro) Borg finish is rated for sheltered external use only and is not suitable for coastal conditions. See MG Pro vs standard salt spray ratings in detail.
Will this keypad hold up to direct rain exposure?
The BL4400 series keypad is designed for external use. It handles normal rain on a gate without issue. The buttons are mechanical push-buttons (not electronic), so there is no water ingress risk from rain getting into a keypad circuit. The main long-term concern in wet conditions is keeping the lock body and latch mechanism lubricated with a dry PTFE lubricant annually to prevent corrosion in the spindle area. Avoid using oil-based lubricants which attract dust and grit.

Code Change and Security

What is the code change key and where should I keep it?
The code change key is a small metal pin (included) that inserts into the hole in the star button to initiate the ECP code change process. It is essential for changing the code - without it, the code cannot be changed. Store it in a secure location separate from the gate, such as a lockbox, key safe, or locked office. If the code change key is lost, a replacement pin of the same diameter can sometimes be sourced from a locksmith. The supplied disabling plug can be inserted into the star button hole at installation to permanently prevent any further code changes - only use this if you are certain the code will never need to change.
Are codes truly non-sequential on this lock?
Yes. Like all Borg mechanical digital locks, the BL4400 series is non-sequential - the digits of the code can be pressed in any order and the lock opens. If the code is set to 1-3-5, pressing 5-1-3 or 3-5-1 also opens it. This by design reduces visible wear patterns on commonly pressed buttons that would reveal the code. For a full explanation, see non-sequential any-order codes explained.

Gate Applications and Holdback

What is the holdback function and when would I use it?
Holdback (also called free passage or passage mode) allows the lever to be held in the open position so the gate can swing freely without needing a code. It is activated by entering the code, rotating the lever, and then pressing a button while the lever is still rotating. This is useful for deliveries, events, or tradesperson access during working hours when you want the gate open. Holdback can be deactivated by rotating the lever and pressing C. The holdback function can be permanently disabled at installation by inserting the supplied disabling plug - relevant for pool barrier gates where self-latching is mandatory. See passage mode vs holdback mode explained.
