Borg BL5000KMG Lever Keypad Only - External Grade - Chrome Plated

The Borg BL5000KMG is the external-grade chrome plated lever keypad from the BL5000 series, supplied as a keypad-only unit. It is the replacement or retrofit keypad for BL5201MG family installations - the front-of-door pushbutton code chamber and lever without the latch, internal handle, or any other door hardware.

Chrome plated finish gives limited corrosion resistance for sheltered external use on non-coastal sites. The clutching lever protects the mechanism from forced rotation. Code change is the standard Borg bench method - the keypad is removed from the door, tumblers repositioned, and reinstalled. Like all Borg mechanical digital products, it is fully mechanical with no batteries, no wiring, and nothing to charge. See the full Digital Mechanical Locks range or what is a mechanical digital lock? for background.

Estimated Warehouse Dispatch
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
Keypad Only - Not a Complete Lock
This product is the external keypad unit only. No inside handle, latch, strike plate, or lock case is included. It must be used with a compatible Borg lock body - either as a direct replacement on an existing BL5201MG installation, or paired with a compatible adaptor kit and host lock. For a complete ready-to-install lock see the BL5201MG full lockset.
External Grade - Sheltered External Use
Chrome plated finish is suitable for sheltered external applications - covered entrances, carparks, protected doorways - where the keypad is not exposed to direct rain or driving weather. The chrome plating provides limited corrosion resistance for normal external conditions. See environment grades for mechanical digital locks.
Not Suitable for Coastal or Saline Environments
Chrome plated finish is not rated for salt air, coastal exposure, or direct marine environments. For coastal applications within approximately 1km of salt water, specify the Marine Grade Pro range instead - see MG Pro salt spray ratings and AS4145.2 corrosion grade C explained.
Designed for light to medium usage areas
Not suitable for high-traffic commercial use
For heavy duty applications consider the Lockwood 3572DX, Borg BL7701, or Carbine CDL7200LL-HD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a complete lock?
No. This is the external keypad lever unit only - no latch, inside handle, or lock body. It is a replacement or retrofit keypad for BL5201MG family installations, or pairs with an adaptor kit and Lockwood host lock for a retrofit conversion. The BL5201MG is the complete lockset version.
Can this be used outdoors?
Yes for sheltered external applications - covered entrances, protected doorways, carparks under shelter. It is not suitable for direct rain exposure or coastal salt air. For coastal environments within 1km of salt water, you need the Marine Grade Pro range. See environment grades for mechanical digital locks.
How is the code changed?
At the bench using the standard Borg non-ECP tumbler method. The keypad is removed from the door, the chamber opened, and the coloured tumblers repositioned to set the new code. All square cut-outs face outward, coloured marks face upward. See the Borg standard chamber code change guide and the bench method step by step. Spare tumblers are listed in the 5000 Series spare parts sheet.
Does it need batteries?
No. The entire mechanism is mechanical - no batteries, no wiring, no electronics. Nothing to charge, nothing to go flat, no lockout during a power cut. See what is a mechanical digital lock? for the full picture.
What lock bodies does this keypad fit?
Directly onto the BL5201MG, BL5201SC, and BL5001 Borg full locksets (see the Compatible Host Products table above). Via adaptor kits, it also converts Lockwood LW002, LW3572, and LW3582 host locks to code entry. The 8mm square drive spindle suits a wide range of leading lock brands; always confirm compatibility before ordering.

Additional Information

  • Buying the keypad on its own is typically the economical fix for a damaged or worn keypad face - the latch and internal hardware inside the door rarely wear at the same rate as the exposed external chamber.
  • Chrome plated finish does not match Marine Grade Pro (black), satin chrome, or satin stainless finishes. If replacing a keypad, confirm the finish code on the existing installation before ordering.
  • The BL5000 series is the non-Easicode chamber - code changes happen at the bench, not on the door. If on-door code changing is a requirement, see the Easicode Pro (ECP) range.
  • For the wider picture on how Borg, Lockwood, and Carbine mechanical digital ranges compare, see Chapter 16 of the Buyer's Guide - Three Brands and Chapter 10 - Brand Profiles.
  • Borg's genuine spare parts advantage: tumblers, spindles, gaskets, and code change tools are available as separate items - the hardware store imitations often are not. See the 5000 Series spare parts sheet for the full list.
