Borg Mechanical Digital BL2005SC – Knob Keypad – Rim-Fixed Deadbolt – Satin Chrome
The Borg BL2005SC is a fully mechanical digital lock with a knob keypad outside and a rim-fixed deadbolt. Unlike mortice or tubular latch locks which require a pocket to be cut into the door edge, the BL2005SC deadbolt is surface-mounted on the door face — no door edge drilling or morticing required. The bolt throws 22mm into a strike plate fixed to the door frame.
Operating logic: enter the code on the outside keypad to retract the bolt and open the door. Turn the inside knob to throw the bolt and lock the door. The inside knob can also retract the bolt from inside without entering a code — providing free inside egress. Satin chrome finish. Over 8,000 combinations with the tumbler code system (lock removal required to change code). Suits doors from 35mm to 80mm thick. Both open-in and open-out strike plates are supplied. No batteries.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
The BL2005SC uses a rim-fixed deadbolt that is surface-mounted on the door face. No pocket needs to be cut into the door edge. The bolt throws 22mm horizontally into a strike plate fixed to the door frame or jamb. This makes it suitable for doors where morticing is not possible — such as hollow-core doors, glass-framed doors, or thin-section doors where cutting a mortice would compromise structural integrity. Both an open-in and an open-out strike plate are supplied.
To open: enter the correct code on the outside keypad. The bolt retracts and the door can be opened. To lock: turn the inside knob to throw the bolt into the strike. To open from inside: turn the inside knob in the opposite direction to retract the bolt — no code required from inside. The door stays locked until either the code is entered from outside or the inside knob retracts the bolt.
The inside knob can be turned to retract the deadbolt without entering a code. Free inside egress at all times.
Tumbler-based code system. To change the PIN, the lock must be removed. Remove the 4 red screws, carefully lift the cover plate (springs attached), hold the C tumbler depressed, then use the supplied tweezers to reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers. Over 8,000 combinations; code length adjustable 3–7 digits.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For heavy duty: consider the Borg BL7701, Lockwood DX, or Carbine CDL7000.
Accepts one active PIN code at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a rim-fixed deadbolt and how is it different from a mortice or tubular latch?
A rim-fixed deadbolt is surface-mounted on the door face — the bolt mechanism sits on the surface of the door rather than being inserted into a pocket cut into the door edge. This means no morticing is required. The bolt throws horizontally into a strike plate fixed to the door frame. It is different from a tubular latch (which is spring-loaded and retracts automatically) — the BL2005SC bolt must be actively thrown (by turning the inside knob) and retracted (by code from outside or knob from inside).
Which strike plate should I use — open-in or open-out?
Both are supplied. Select based on how your door opens: open-in if the door opens towards you (inward-opening); open-out if the door opens away from you (outward-opening). When viewed from the keypad (outside) side: an inward-opening door swings towards the inside of the room; an outward-opening door swings away. If in doubt, fit the lock and test both strike plates to confirm which provides correct bolt engagement with your frame.
Can I open the door from inside without entering a code?
Yes. The inside knob operates the deadbolt freely without code entry. Turning the inside knob in one direction throws the bolt (locks); turning it in the other direction retracts the bolt (unlocks). Code entry is only required from the outside.
How do I change the PIN code?
The lock must be removed from the door. Remove the 4 red screws, carefully lift the cover plate (springs attached), hold the C tumbler depressed, then use the supplied tweezers to reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers. Test before reinstalling. Codes are non-sequential — buttons can be pressed in any order. Spare tumblers allow code length adjustment from 3 to 7 digits.
Can this be used externally?
The BL2005SC is listed for internal use. The satin chrome finish is not rated for outdoor weather exposure or coastal/marine environments. For an external rim-fixed deadbolt in a marine grade finish, see the BL2601MGPROECP (marine grade, ECP) or the BL2615MGPROECP (horizontal rim deadbolt, marine grade, ECP).
Additional Information
The strike plate must be positioned precisely so the bolt engages cleanly and fully when thrown. Mark the bolt position on the door frame before drilling. The bolt should engage at least 15mm into the strike keep when fully extended. If the bolt binds or doesn't engage fully, adjust the strike plate position. Ensure the door closes squarely before fitting the strike to avoid misalignment.
The tumbler code can be set on the bench before installation. Set and verify the code before mounting the lock. This avoids removing a fitted lock for the first code change.
The BL2005SC suits doors from 35mm to 80mm thick — a wider range than the 35–54mm of tubular latch models in the BL2000 family. The 120mm spindle supplied accommodates this full range. If the spindle needs to be trimmed, cut only from the inside knob side.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
