Borg BL2201SCECP Mechanical Digital Lock - Knob Keypad - Satin Chrome - Easicode Pro - Holdback
At A Glance
The Borg BL2201SCECP is a light duty fully mechanical digital lock with a knob keypad on the outside and an inside paddle handle with holdback. Easicode Pro (ECP) lets you change the PIN while the lock stays installed on the door - no removal, no lock case to pull apart. Finished in satin chrome and cycle tested to 50,000 operations, it is the entry-level Easicode Pro model in Borg's BL2000 knob keypad range.
Single-sided: the outside knob is clutched and needs a PIN to turn; the inside paddle handle is always free, so anyone inside can walk straight out without entering a code. The holdback facility lets you retract the latch and hold it open for free passage during busy periods, and the holdback device itself can be permanently removed if you never need it. Suitable for light duty internal and sheltered external timber and composite doors.
Fully mechanical - no batteries, no wiring, nothing to charge or replace. See our MG Pro and Easicode Pro explained guide if you are comparing Borg's naming across the range, or browse the wider Digital Mechanical Locks category for other pushbutton options.
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes Queensland public holidays).
Change the PIN in seconds while the lock is still fitted to the door. Insert the code change key into the star button, press and hold, press C to clear, enter the new code, confirm, then release - no lock removal required. A code change deactivation plug is included to stop unauthorised code changes. See the full step-by-step Easicode Pro walkthrough for the complete procedure and video.
This model has no mechanical key override - the code pad is the only way in from outside. If you want a physical backup key as well as the keypad, the Borg BL2701 ECP range is the same Easicode Pro platform with a built-in key override.
Enter the code, turn the knob, then engage the holdback to keep the latch retracted for free passage without entering a code every time. Release it any time by operating the inside paddle. The holdback device can also be permanently removed if you never want free passage. Not sure whether passage or holdback mode suits your gate or door - see Passage Mode vs Holdback Mode, including the fire-door and pool-gate rules.
The BL2201SCECP is the light duty Easicode Pro model in the BL2000 knob keypad range, cycle tested to 50,000 operations - suited to low-frequency internal applications such as offices, storage rooms and amenities. For medium duty with a higher cycle rating, see the BL2501SSECP (100,000 cycles, satin stainless). For genuinely heavy duty commercial doors, see Lockwood 3572DX, Borg BL7701 or Carbine CDL7100SC-HD.
Installing on a narrow aluminium gate frame?
This lock ships with a standard 60mm backset tubular latch. If you are mounting it on an external gate with a narrow aluminium frame - commonly 50mm x 50mm or similar - the standard latch will not fit.
Borg makes a shorter 28mm backset latch specifically for this situation: BLS272000LH (Left Hand) and BLS272000RH (Right Hand). Measure your gate post before ordering - see Gate Post Too Narrow for a 60mm Latch? for how to measure and which Borg locks suit narrow stiles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Both are ECP on-door code change knob keypads with holdback. The BL2201SCECP is light duty - cycle tested to 50,000 operations - in satin chrome. The BL2501SSECP is from the Codestar range - medium duty, cycle tested to 100,000 operations - in satin stainless. Pick BL2201SCECP for light duty internal residential and small office use; pick BL2501SSECP where a higher duty rating or a satin stainless finish is needed.
Both are 60mm, satin chrome, holdback, light duty knob keypads. The BL2201SCECP has Easicode Pro on-door code change - no removal needed. The BL2200SC uses the traditional tumbler system, changed at the bench. Pick BL2201SCECP where you will change codes on the door yourself; pick BL2200SC where the code is rarely changed.
No - this model has no mechanical key override, so the keypad is the only way in from outside. If you want a physical backup key as well as the keypad, look at the Borg BL2701 ECP range, which shares this platform but adds a built-in key override.
With the door open, enter the current code. Insert the code change key into the star button and press and hold it fully. Press C to clear, enter the new code digits, then press them all again to confirm. Release and remove the key, then test the new code at least five times before closing the door. The code is non-sequential, so buttons can be pressed in any order. See the full Easicode Pro code change walkthrough for the video demonstration.
To engage holdback: enter the code, operate the knob to retract the latch, then engage the holdback device on the inside paddle. To release it: operate the inside paddle. To remove it permanently: the holdback device can be taken off the inside paddle handle at any time without affecting normal lock operation. Read Passage Mode vs Holdback Mode before engaging holdback on a pool gate or a fire door exit path - there are compliance rules either way.
Additional Information
The BL2000 ECP series uses the star button to initiate a code change - different from the BL5000 ECP series, which uses the Phi button. Always test the new code at least five times before closing the door, and fit the deactivation plug afterwards if you want to lock out further on-door changes.
The 50,000 cycle rating suits doors used a few times a day - a domestic or small office door used 10 to 20 times daily reaches 50,000 cycles in roughly 7 to 14 years. For doors with heavier daily use, the BL2501SSECP (100,000 cycles) or a lever-handle model gives a longer service life between overhauls.
This is the knob-keypad member of the family - the outside knob turns once the code is entered. If you would prefer a lever handle on the same Easicode Pro platform, satin chrome and 60mm backset, the BL2401SCECP is the direct lever-handle equivalent - same code change method, same holdback function, same duty class.
Standard fixings suit doors up to 60mm thick. For doors up to 85mm, order the optional XL fixing kit alongside the lock.
A worn or damaged outside keypad can be replaced on its own with the BL2201KSCECP keypad-only unit, and the 60mm tubular latch is available separately as BLS216. See the full Accessories and Spares table above for the complete list, including the change key and spindle kit.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, vandalism or improper installation. Do not dismantle the lock - doing so voids the warranty.

Borg BL2201SCECP - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is specific to the BL2201SCECP. For the wider mechanical digital lock category, see our Mechanical Digital Locks Buyer's Guide chapter and the Changing Codes on Mechanical Digital Locks guide.
Access and Credentials
As many as you like - the BL2201SCECP stores a single shared PIN code, so everyone with access uses the same code. There is no per-user code capacity on this model. If separate user codes matter to you, a smart lock with an app is a better fit than any mechanical digital keypad.
With no key override, a forgotten code on this model means calling a locksmith - there is no backup key to fall back on. If that risk worries you, the Borg BL2701 ECP range is otherwise identical but adds a built-in key override.
The outside knob is clutched - it spins freely against the mechanism until the correct code is entered, so applying force to the knob alone will not operate the latch. The overall security of the door still depends on correct installation, a sound door frame and a compatible strike.
Code Change
Just the Easicode Pro code change key supplied in the box - no screwdrivers, no removing the lock from the door. See the full Borg Easicode Pro walkthrough for the six-step method and video.
Fit the deactivation plug into the star button opening once you are happy with your code, and on-door code changes are locked out entirely - useful on a shared door where you do not want tenants or staff able to reset the code themselves.
No - Easicode Pro (star button, on-door) only applies to ECP-suffixed models like this one. Standard Borg tumbler models change code at the bench with the lock removed. See MG Pro and ECP Explained to understand Borg's naming, and Changing Codes on Mechanical Digital Locks for every brand and method side by side.
Holdback and Passage
No - holdback should never be engaged on a fire door or a required emergency exit path, because it defeats the self-latching function the door relies on for compliance. See the hard exclusion explained in Passage Mode vs Holdback Mode.
Handle this carefully - a self-latching pool gate generally must not be propped open with holdback while the pool is in use. See the pool gate holdback rule and the wider pool barrier treatment before fitting any Borg lock to a pool gate.
Holdback is entirely optional. The holdback device can be permanently removed from the inside paddle handle - the lock still operates normally with the code required to enter and the inside paddle always free to exit.
Installation and Fit
Yes - standard fixings suit doors up to 60mm thick, which covers the great majority of internal residential and light commercial doors. For a thicker door, up to 85mm, order the optional XL fixing kit alongside the lock.
No - the 60mm backset latch supplied is too long for a typical narrow aluminium gate stile. Order the 28mm backset BLS272000LH or BLS272000RH instead, and see Gate Post Too Narrow for a 60mm Latch? for how to measure your gate post first.
No - this model is reversible on site, so a single item code covers both left and right hung doors. Follow the reversal steps in the instructions before final fitting.
Suitability
It is rated for internal and sheltered external use only, not full weather exposure. For coastal or fully exposed applications, choose the marine grade BL2601MGPROECP instead, which is salt-spray tested to 1,000 hours.
No - at 50,000 cycles this is a light duty lock, not built for constant high-traffic use. For medium duty, step up to the BL2501SSECP; for genuinely heavy commercial doors, see Lockwood 3572DX, Borg BL7701 or Carbine CDL7100SC-HD.
Spares and Troubleshooting
Order a replacement BL2000ECPCK change key - you cannot change the code without it, but the lock keeps operating normally on the current code in the meantime. See lost change key options for more detail.
Yes - the BL2201KSCECP keypad-only unit is the direct replacement for a worn or damaged outside keypad on this exact model.

- Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor. Where an item is returned to LSC, freight charges must be prepaid and the item returned within the warranty period.
- If LSC finds the returned item to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced, and a detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
