Borg Mechanical Digital BL5701 – Lever with Built-In Key Override – Easicode Pro – Satin Chrome and Marine Grade Pro Black
The Borg BL5701 ECP is a medium to heavy duty fully mechanical digital lever lock with a key override cylinder built directly into the keypad lever handle. Unlike locks where the key cylinder is mounted below the keypad, the BL5701's key override is integrated inside the lever handle body itself — inserting and rotating the key directly engages the lever and 8mm spindle drive, bypassing the code without any additional mechanism. This makes it straightforward to operate under key even with a heavily sprung lock case.
Easicode Pro (ECP) allows the PIN to be changed on the door. The inside handle is a flat bar lever (unlike the BL5001's round bar inside handle), which is always free to turn for immediate inside egress. The lock is available in Satin Chrome (BL5701SCECP) for internal and sheltered external use, and Black Marine Grade Pro (BL5701MGPROECP) for coastal, marine, and harsh external environments including ISPS-compliant applications. The Marine Grade Pro variant is not a colour choice — it carries a fundamentally different construction specification.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
The key override cylinder on the BL5701 is integrated directly inside the keypad lever handle body. To operate by key: insert the key into the cylinder in the handle and rotate it away from the door edge (clockwise for right-hand door; anti-clockwise for left-hand door). The key rotation directly engages the lever with the spindle drive, opening the door without entering the code. This approach eliminates the need for a separate external cylinder and provides clean, direct key override operation. Key cylinder is pre-fitted — keys are supplied.
The BL5701 inside handle is a flat bar lever, unlike the BL5001 which uses a round bar inside handle. The inside lever is always free to turn for immediate egress without entering the code. This flat bar profile is a lower-profile ergonomic design suited to the applications this lock targets.
The black variant uses MG Pro black marine external grade coating with 316 stainless steel internal components and 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray resistance. It is ISPS compliant for marine and port facility applications. This is a fundamentally different specification to the BL5701SCECP (satin chrome) which is rated for internal and sheltered external use only. Choose BL5701MGPROECP for coastal, beachside, marine, and harsh external environments. Choose BL5701SCECP for internal and sheltered external installations.
BL5701MGPROECP: Borg warrants corrosion resistance for 12 months from date of sale under specified conditions.
The satin chrome finish is designed for internal and sheltered external use in normal weather conditions. For coastal, beachside, or marine environments, see the BL5701MGPROECP variant on this page.
The PIN code can be changed while the lock is installed using the included code change key. Insert the key over the Φ button, rotate 90° clockwise, hold, press C to clear, enter the new code digits, confirm, then release. No lock removal required. A code change deactivation plug is included.
After entering the correct code and rotating the lever, press F to engage free passage mode. The lever becomes free-turning without code entry on each use. To exit: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. Free passage is permanently deactivatable using the included plug.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For genuine heavy duty high-traffic: consider the Borg BL7701, Lockwood DX, or Carbine CDL7000.
Accepts one active PIN code at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the key override work on the BL5701?
The key cylinder is integrated directly inside the keypad lever handle body. To operate by key: insert the key into the cylinder in the handle and rotate it away from the door edge — clockwise for a right-hand door; anti-clockwise for a left-hand door. The rotation engages the lever with the clutch and spindle drive, allowing the door to be pulled open without entering the code. Keys are supplied with the lock; the cylinder is pre-fitted and keyed.
What is the difference between BL5701 and BL5001?
The BL5001 uses a round bar inside handle that is always free to turn, with no key override. The BL5701 adds a key override cylinder integrated into the keypad lever handle, and replaces the inside round bar handle with a flat bar lever. If you do not need a key override, the BL5001 is a simpler and typically more economical choice. If you need supervisor or emergency key access, the BL5701 is the correct selection within the BL5000 range.
What is the difference between BL5701 and BL7701?
The BL5701 uses the medium to heavy duty BL5000 series body. The BL7701 uses the heavier duty BL7000 series body with an SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) cylinder format and shares the Unican 1000/5000 footprint. For very high traffic commercial applications or Unican retrofits, the BL7701 is the correct upgrade path. For most standard commercial and external applications requiring code-plus-key access, the BL5701 is appropriate.
How do I change the handing on the BL5701?
The BL5701 keypad handle handing is changed differently from the BL5001. Remove the grey grommet on the top and bottom of the keypad handle to expose two grub screws. Use the included hex wrench to remove both screws, lift the handle off, rotate 180°, refit and retighten both grub screws, then replace both grommets. The inside handle is changed the same way as BL5001 (one grommet and grub screw at the base).
How do I change the PIN code?
With the door open, enter the current code. Insert the Easicode Pro code change key over the Φ button at the top centre of the keypad, rotate it 90° clockwise and hold. Press C to clear, enter the new code digits, press all digits again to confirm, then release and remove the key. Press C or rotate the lever to finalise. Test the new code at least 5 times before closing the door. The code is non-sequential — the buttons can be pressed in any order.
Is the BL5701MGPROECP suitable for coastal or marine environments?
Yes. The BL5701MGPROECP uses MG Pro black marine external grade coating with 316 stainless steel internal components, tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray. It is ISPS compliant for marine and port facility applications. The BL5701SCECP (satin chrome) is not rated for coastal or saline environments — it is designed for internal and sheltered external use only.
Does this lock have a free passage function?
Yes. Enter the correct code and rotate the lever, then press F while the lever is rotating. The lever becomes free-turning without requiring code entry. To exit free passage: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. The free passage function can be permanently deactivated using the included plug if it is not required for the installation.
Additional Information
Unlike the BL7701 where the SFIC cylinder is not supplied, the BL5701 comes with the key override cylinder pre-fitted and keys included. There is no additional sourcing required for the key override to function. If additional key copies or re-keying to a master system is required, contact a locksmith to specify a compatible cylinder to replace the factory-fitted one.
Monthly: apply a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (GT85 or equivalent) to keypad and lever surfaces; wipe off excess. Do not use oil-based lubricants. Annually: remove the lock and spray internally through the button holes; test all buttons and lever operation. Refer to the Borg Servicing Guide PDF for full maintenance instructions.
Two spindles are supplied (80mm and 90mm). Use the longest that fits. The general rule is door thickness + 30mm = minimum spindle length (15mm must seat into each lock body). If the spindle is too short it may disengage if the door is slammed. Do not cut the keypad side of the spindle — trim from the inside handle side only, to ensure the key override continues to function correctly from the keypad.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
