Borg Mechanical Digital BL7701 Heavy Duty Lever/Lever – SFIC Key Override – Easicode Pro
The Borg BL7701 is Borg's heavy duty mechanical digital lock, designed specifically for high traffic commercial and institutional applications where the medium-duty BL5001 series is not sufficient. It uses a lever/lever configuration with a built-in SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) key override cylinder inside the lever handle itself — not mounted separately below the keypad. Rotating the key directly engages the lever clutch and 8mm spindle drive, bypassing the code. This mechanism is specifically engineered to operate even with heavily sprung third-party lock cases.
Easicode Pro (ECP) allows the PIN to be changed on the door without removing the lock. The internal coding chamber uses stainless steel components for longevity and is suitable for internal and external applications on timber, composite, and steel doors. The lock is available in two finishes: Satin Stainless (BL7701SSECP) for internal and sheltered external use, and Black Marine Grade Pro (BL7701MGPROECP) for coastal, marine, and harsh external environments. The Marine Grade Pro variant is not simply a colour choice — it carries a fundamentally different construction specification.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
The BL7701 is Borg's heavy duty specification lock, designed for high traffic areas where the medium-duty BL5000 series is insufficient. It shares the same footprint as the Unican 1000 and 5000 series, making it a direct retrofit upgrade option for existing Unican installations.
The key override on the BL7701 uses an SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) cylinder integrated directly inside the lever handle body. Rotating the key physically engages the lever with the clutch and 8mm spindle drive — bypassing the code and operating the lock. This approach is specifically designed to work with heavily sprung third-party lock cases where a conventional external key override may not provide sufficient torque. The SFIC cylinder is not supplied with a key from the factory; a compatible SFIC key must be ordered separately or supplied by your locksmith.
The black variant uses MG Pro 2 black marine external grade coating with 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray resistance. This is a fundamentally different specification to the BL7701SSECP (satin stainless) which is rated for internal and sheltered external use only. Choose BL7701MGPROECP for coastal, beachside, marine, and harsh external environments. Choose BL7701SSECP for internal and sheltered external installations.
BL7701MGPROECP: Borg warrants corrosion resistance for 12 months from date of sale under specified conditions.
The PIN code can be changed while the lock is installed using the included code change key. No lock removal required. An optional code change deactivation plug is included.
After entering the correct code and rotating the lever, press F to engage free passage mode. The lever becomes free-turning without requiring code entry on each use. To exit: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. The free passage function can be permanently disabled using the included plug.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
Accepts one active PIN code at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SFIC and how is the key override different from other Borg locks?
SFIC stands for Small Format Interchangeable Core — a type of cylinder format used in commercial master keying systems. On the BL7701, the SFIC cylinder is built directly into the lever handle body rather than mounted as a separate cylinder below the keypad. When the key is inserted and rotated, it physically engages the lever clutch mechanism and spindle drive, allowing the door to be opened by key without entering the code. This direct engagement makes it particularly effective with heavily sprung lock cases where a conventional externally mounted key override might not generate sufficient torque to retract the latch. The SFIC cylinder itself must be sourced separately — contact your locksmith to supply and fit a compatible cylinder.
Can this lock replace my existing Unican lock?
Yes. The BL7701 ECP was specifically designed to share the same door drilling footprint as the Unican 1000 and 5000 series. In most cases it is a direct bolt-on replacement — no new drilling or filling of existing holes is required. Confirm your existing Unican model and door preparation before ordering to verify compatibility.
How do I change the PIN code?
With the door open, enter the current code. Insert the Easicode Pro code change key over the Φ button, rotate 90° clockwise and hold. Press C to clear, enter the new code, press all digits again to confirm, then release and remove the key. Press C or rotate the lever to finalise. Test at least 5 times before closing the door. The code is non-sequential — the buttons can be pressed in any order.
Is the BL7701MGPROECP (black) better for external use than the BL7701SSECP?
Yes — and the difference goes beyond colour. The BL7701MGPROECP uses MG Pro 2 black marine external grade coating with 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray resistance and increased UV protection. The BL7701SSECP (satin stainless) is designed for internal and sheltered external use in normal weather conditions. For any coastal, beachside, or harsh external installation, the MG Pro variant is the correct specification.
Why choose the BL7701 over the BL5001?
The BL7701 is Borg's heavy duty specification — designed for genuinely high-traffic commercial doors where the medium-heavy duty BL5001 may reach the limits of its service interval. Additionally, the BL7701 has a built-in SFIC key override mechanism in the lever handle, where the BL5001 does not include a key override at all. If you need a key override and high cycle durability, the BL7701 is the correct choice. If you need a lighter-duty lock without key override, the BL5001 is more economical.
Does this lock have a free passage function?
Yes. After entering the correct code and rotating the lever, press the F button to engage free passage mode. The lever becomes free-turning without requiring code entry on each use. To exit free passage: rotate the lever and press C until an audible click is heard. The free passage function can be permanently deactivated using the supplied plug if it is not required.
Additional Information
The BL7701 is supplied without the SFIC key cylinder and key. Contact your locksmith to supply and fit a compatible SFIC cylinder. If you are integrating into an existing master keying system, have your locksmith confirm the correct SFIC profile before ordering the lock.
The BL7701 ECP shares the Unican 1000 and 5000 series door footprint. Before installing as a replacement, confirm the spindle drive size (8mm square), the backset (60mm or 70mm), and the door thickness are compatible. If existing Unican drilling is present, a cover plate may be available to conceal any paint marks or unused holes.
Monthly: apply a light spray of silicon-based lubricant (GT85 or equivalent) to keypad and lever surfaces; wipe off excess. Do not use oil-based lubricants. Annually: remove the lock and spray internally through the button holes; test all buttons and lever operation. Refer to the Borg Servicing Guide PDF for full instructions.
If you are fitting the BL7701 to a third-party lock case with a heavy spring on the latch bolt or deadbolt, the SFIC key override mechanism in the lever handle is specifically designed for this application. The key directly drives the clutch rather than relying on a separate clutch engagement mechanism, providing greater torque at the spindle. Always confirm the lock case spindle engagement is correct before relying on key access in an installed application.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
