Burg-Wächter Key Safe 20 – Wall-Mount Combination Key Safe, 12cm Capacity
The Burg-Wächter Key Safe 20 is a wall-mount, battery-free key safe designed for secure storage of keys up to 12cm in length. Built from die-cast zinc with a 4-digit resettable mechanical combination, it provides 10,000 possible access codes and installs on any solid wall with the included screws and plugs.
The distinguishing feature of the Key Safe 20 is its magnetic key holder, which holds keys horizontally across the bottom of the interior rather than hanging from a hook. This accommodates longer keys and fobs that would not fit in the hook-based Key Safe 10. Like the Key Safe 10, this model does not include a sliding shutter flap over the dials; for installations exposed to direct rain, the Key Safe 30 or Key Safe 40 are better suited.
No power source is required at any point. The mechanical combination operates independently of Wi-Fi, batteries, and apps, making the Key Safe 20 reliable in long-term installations without connectivity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the factory-set combination?
The Key Safe 20 ships with the combination set to 0-0-0-0. Change this to a personal code before putting the unit into service.
How does the magnetic holder work?
The magnetic insert sits at the base of the interior and holds keys horizontally by magnetic attraction. This is more accommodating than a hook for keys with thicker or longer profiles. The magnetic holder is removable; with it removed, the interior can hold small valuables instead of or alongside keys.
Can the combination be changed?
Yes. Open the safe using the current code, remove the small black plastic cap from around the reset pin on the inside of the lid, slide the pin left and down as shown in the instruction diagram, set your new combination, return the pin, replace the cap, and test the new code before closing. This cap-removal step is specific to the Key Safe 10 and 20 and is not required on the Key Safe 30, 40, or 50.
What if the combination is forgotten?
There is no override or emergency access method. If the code is lost, the safe cannot be opened. Record the combination and keep it in a separate, secure location before placing the unit into service.
Does the Key Safe 20 need a sheltered mounting location?
Yes. This model has no sliding shutter flap, so the dials are exposed to the elements when the lid is closed. Mount in a sheltered position protected from direct rain and prolonged sun. For permanently exposed outdoor positions, the Key Safe 30 or Key Safe 40 include a sliding shutter flap.
Additional Information
The Key Safe 10 and Key Safe 20 use an older reset mechanism that requires removing a small black plastic cap from around the silver reset pin on the inside of the lid before the pin can be operated. After setting the new combination, the cap must be reseated flush with the pin. This extra step is not present on the Key Safe 30, 40, or 50. Follow the included instruction sheet carefully.
Fix to a solid masonry, brick, or timber wall using all four corner fixing holes. Drill Ø8mm holes, insert the supplied plugs, and secure with the supplied screws. Choose a discreet location with enough light for the authorised user to read the dials. Keep the lid closed when not in use.
Rotate all four dials weekly to keep them moving freely. Wipe the body with a dry cloth periodically. If dials become stiff, apply a small amount of dry graphite lubricant sparingly to the dial spindles. Do not use oil-based lubricants.
The Key Safe 20 is the right choice when keys exceed 7cm but a weather-protected installation position is available. If the mounting position is exposed to rain, or if you need to store multiple keys, the Key Safe 30 or 40 provide a shutter flap and greater interior space. See our guide to secure key storage for practical placement advice.
