Burg-Wächter Key Safe 10 – Wall-Mount Combination Key Safe, 7cm Capacity
The Burg-Wächter Key Safe 10 is a compact, battery-free wall-mount key safe designed for secure storage of one or two short keys. Built from die-cast zinc with a 4-digit resettable mechanical combination lock, it provides 10,000 possible access codes and fixes to any solid wall using the included screws and plugs.
The Key Safe 10 is the smallest model in the Burg-Wächter key safe range. Its internal hook holds keys up to 7cm in total length — suitable for standard house keys, padlock keys, and small car keys without large remote fob heads. It does not include a sliding shutter flap over the dials; where the unit will be exposed to direct rain or sun, the Key Safe 30 or Key Safe 40 are better suited.
No power source is required at any point. The mechanical combination operates completely independently of Wi-Fi, batteries, and apps, making the Key Safe 10 reliable in long-term unattended installations where connectivity cannot be guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the factory-set combination?
The Key Safe 10 ships with the combination set to 0-0-0-0. Change the combination to a personal code before putting the unit into service.
Can the combination be changed?
Yes. Open the safe using the current code, remove the small black plastic cap from around the reset pin on the inside of the lid, slide the pin left and down as shown in the instruction diagram, rotate the dials to your new combination, return the pin to its original position, replace the cap, then test the new code with the lid closed. The Key Safe 10 and 20 have this additional cap-removal step that is not present on the Key Safe 30, 40, and 50.
What if the combination is forgotten?
There is no override or emergency access method. If the code is lost, the safe cannot be opened. Record the combination and store it in a separate, secure location before the unit is placed into service.
What key types and sizes fit?
The internal hook holds keys up to 7cm in total length. Standard house keys, padlock keys, and small vehicle keys without large remote fob heads typically fit. Keys with plastic or rubber grips that bring the total length beyond 7cm will not. For longer keys, the Key Safe 20 (magnetic holder, 12cm) or Key Safe 30 (hook and magnetic pad, 9cm) are suitable alternatives.
Does the Key Safe 10 need a sheltered location?
Yes. This model has no sliding shutter flap over the dials, so prolonged direct exposure to rain or sun will accelerate dial wear. Mount under an eave, inside a doorway niche, or in any position protected from direct weather. For permanently exposed outdoor positions, the Key Safe 30 or Key Safe 40 include a sliding shutter flap.
Additional Information
The Key Safe 10 and Key Safe 20 use an older reset mechanism that requires removing a small black plastic cap from around the silver reset pin on the inside of the lid before the pin can be moved. After setting the new combination, the cap must be replaced. This extra step is not present on the Key Safe 30, 40, or 50, which use a simpler slide-pin mechanism. Follow the included instruction sheet carefully and do not proceed without reading it first.
Fix to a solid masonry, brick, or timber wall using all four corner holes on the back plate. Drill Ø8mm holes, insert the supplied plugs, and secure with the supplied screws. Choose a location that is discreet from public view but has enough light for the authorised user to read the dials clearly. Keep the lid closed when not in use.
Rotate all four dials weekly to keep them moving freely. Wipe the body with a dry cloth periodically. If dials become stiff, apply a small amount of dry graphite lubricant sparingly to the dial spindles. Do not use oil-based lubricants as these attract dust and can cause the mechanism to seize.
The Key Safe 10 suits a single short key in a compact, low-profile installation. For longer keys, multiple keys on a ring, or a position exposed to weather, see the other models in this range. See also our guide to secure key storage for practical advice on key safe placement and use.
