The Carbine CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD is the dual keypad model of the CDL7200 Heavy Duty series. It carries a mechanical digital keypad on both the external and internal faces, along with BCA-compliant lever handles on both sides, so a valid code must be entered to operate the lever from either side of the door. That gives you keyless, code-controlled access and exit in both directions - without a battery, an app, or a single electronic component. Bidirectional code control suits rooms where movement in and out both need restricting: server and data rooms, pharmaceutical storage, cash-handling areas, and restricted zones in institutional buildings. Like every CDL7 HD series lock, it runs stainless steel cryptographic elements, exceeds 100,000 tested cycle openings, and is salt spray tested to 240 hours (C7 High). The standard unit is 60mm backset, satin chrome, reversible for left and right hand doors, and suits doors 32 to 54mm thick. The 59mm-wide body covers the fixing holes of common NK2000 and Lockwood 530 installations, which makes it a tidy retrofit upgrade. One design point to understand before you buy: the external lever carries a security break point - see the caution below.

Important - External Lever Security Break Point
The external lever on this lock features a security break point: it will shear off under excessive pull force. This is deliberate - it stops the lever being used to force the lock - but it means the lever must never be used as a pull handle on a heavy door. If real pull force is needed to open the door (a strong closer, wind load), fit a separate pull handle rated for the job. For heavy-door applications, the knob-external Carbine CDL7100SC-HD is often the better pick.

Weather Resistant - 240 Hour Salt Spray Tested (C7 High)
Salt spray tested to 240 hours per AS4145.2-2008 and rated C7 (High) - a genuine tested figure, not a marketing line. Finish degradation from salt and weather exposure is excluded from warranty, so on coastal sites plan on wiping the finish down regularly. BCA Compliant - Dual Lever Both Sides (AS1428.1)
Both lever handles meet BCA accessibility clearance requirements (35-45mm grip clearance per AS1428.1). Note the flip side: because a code must be entered before either lever will operate, this model needs assessing against any DDA or egress requirements that apply to the specific doorway before it is specified.

Code Control - Both Sides of the Door

Both keypads use the same code. It is set once, via slide code-select switches behind the external pad, and applies to both faces - there is no separate internal code. Enter the code, turn the lever, and the latch withdraws; on the other side of the door, exactly the same. This is what separates the KDSC from the single-keypad CDL7200LL-HD, whose internal lever always operates freely.

Changing the code is a bench job: the lock comes off the door, the slide switches at the rear of the external assembly are set to the new combination, and the CLEAR (C) button must always be pressed before a code is entered. The factory default is C13579 and must be changed - and tested from both sides with the door open - before the door is closed on it. On pool gates, one thing matters above all: the lock controls access, but the pool barrier itself must still self-close and self-latch to meet barrier rules - fitting a keypad lock never substitutes for that. Fire Doors and Egress - Read Before Specifying

This dual-keypad model must never be fitted to a fire door or any regulated egress door. A double-sided keypad requires a code to exit, and Australian building codes require occupants to exit fire-rated egress doors without operating a key, code, or similar device. That rule applies to every double-sided keypad setup, regardless of how the lock body itself is fire assessed.

The distinction matters, so here it is plainly: the CDL7200 lock body has genuine fire assessment behind it. But the body assessment never rescues the dual-keypad configuration: code-controlled egress rules it off fire and egress paths full stop. Frequently Asked Questions

Do both keypads use the same code?
Yes. Both the external and internal keypads use the same code. It is set once, via the slide switches behind the external pad, and applies to both sides - there is no separate internal code. See Code Control above for how changes work.

Can this lock be used on a fire door?
No. Because a code must be entered to open the door from the inside, this model cannot go on any door that forms part of a fire egress path - the lock body's fire assessment does not change that. The full explanation, with the certification documents, is in Fire Doors and Egress above.

Why does the external lever have a break point, and what does that mean in practice?
The break point is a security feature: the lever shears off if excessive lateral or pull force is applied, so it cannot be used to force the lock. In practice it means the lever is not a pull handle - on heavy doors, or doors with strong closers, fit a separate pull handle rated for the load.

What is the difference between the CDL7200LL-KDSC-HD and the CDL7200LL-HD?
The CDL7200LL-HD has a keypad on the external face only - its internal lever operates freely, no code needed to exit. The KDSC adds a keypad to the internal face as well, so a code is required from both sides. Free internal egress also makes the single-keypad model the one to discuss for fire doors.

Can this lock be supplied in a 70mm backset?

Additional Information

Egress compliance: This lock requires code entry to open from the internal face. It must not be specified on any door forming part of a regulated egress path under the National Construction Code - fire exits, stairwell doors, or any door occupants must pass through to reach safety in an emergency. Certain occupancies and door positions carry mandatory free-egress requirements. Confirm suitability with your building certifier before specifying.

External lever and pull handles: The security break point means the external lever must not be used to pull heavy doors open. Where a closer or wind load needs real pull force, install a separate pull handle rated for the door.

Code change before installation: The factory default code C13579 must be changed and tested before the lock is fitted. The single code applies to both keypads - test both sides with the door open before closing it. Our code change guide's test-five-times rule exists because of exactly this moment.

Retrofitting older locks: The 59mm body width covers the fixing holes of NK2000 and Lockwood 530 installations, so most swaps need no door patching. Coastal sites: The C7 High salt spray rating is strong, but finish tarnish from salt exposure is excluded from warranty across the industry - Carbine included. A regular freshwater wipe-down keeps the satin chrome presentable; the mechanism itself stays covered for the full 10 years.

Carbine 10 Year Warranty - Mechanical Digital Locks
Carbine is a Davcor Group brand, and Davcor backs its mechanical digital locks with one of the longest warranties in the category: 10 years against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of original purchase. There are no electronics or batteries in this lock to shorten the cover - the whole product is warranted for the full term.

On a valid claim, Davcor will repair the lock, replace it, or supply an equivalent product. Keep your proof of purchase, and make the claim as soon as a defect becomes apparent.

What the warranty does not cover: fair wear and tear; damage caused by faulty installation, misuse, or modification of the product; and tarnishing or change to the finish from weather, salt, or chemical exposure. On coastal and exposed sites, regular cleaning of the finish is the practical answer - the lock mechanism itself remains covered.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
