The Carbine CDL7100-HBSC-HD is the holdback variant of the CDL7100 Heavy Duty mechanical digital lockset. It shares every specification and certification with the standard CDL7100SC-HD, and adds one genuinely useful function: a holdback button on the internal lever. Press it while turning the lever and the latch retracts and stays retracted - the door swings freely with no code needed - until you operate the lever again to release it. The Holdback Function
The holdback button sits on the internal (secure side) lever. Press the button while turning the lever and the latch bolt retracts and holds in the retracted position - the door opens and closes freely without the latch engaging the strike, and nobody needs the code in either direction. To return to normal code-controlled operation, operate the internal lever again and the latch springs back into service. The holdback can only be engaged and released from the internal face, so control of the door's mode stays on the secure side.
This is the only difference from the standard CDL7100SC-HD - every other spec, rating, and certification is identical. Salt spray tested to 240 hours per AS4145.2-2008 and rated C7 (High) - suited to moderate, tropical and industrial or marine environments roughly 100m to 10km inland. Finish degradation from salt and weather exposure is excluded from warranty, so on coastal sites plan on wiping the finish down regularly. The internal lever handle meets BCA accessibility requirements, with 35-45mm grip clearance at the centre section per AS1428.1. The lever always operates the latch freely - exit is single-action, no code needed to leave. Note the external face is a knob, not a lever - accessibility compliance applies to the internal side.

Code Control
Entry is by code on the external keypad, then turning the knob; the internal lever always operates the latch freely, so exit never needs a code. Changing the code is a genuinely simple job on the HD series: the back cover of the external pad lifts off without tools, and the code is set on slider switches - slide each switch to expose the red indicator to include that digit. One behaviour worth knowing: after pressing the clear (C) button, digits can be entered in any order - any combination containing the set digits unlocks the lock. Carbine recommend 4-5 digit codes for higher security.

Gate Installations
The CDL7100 platform is a proven gate performer - the Installation Gallery tab includes a narrow stile gate install at Carrara, and the knob external face suits gates better than a break-point lever ever could. The C7 High salt spray rating handles exposed mounting, and the holdback is handy on service gates that stay open during work periods. One rule never changes: on a pool barrier, the gate must still self-close and self-latch to meet barrier requirements - never leave the holdback engaged on a pool gate. Fire Rating - and the Holdback Caution
The lock itself is fire rated: FRL -/120/30 with the supplied 60mm tubular latchset on a tested Firecore or E-Core doorset, and the internal lever's free operation gives the single-action egress fire doors require. Frequently Asked Questions
The holdback button sits on the internal lever handle. Press the button while turning the lever and the latch retracts and holds in the retracted position - the door then opens and closes freely without the latch engaging the strike. Operate the internal lever again to release it and return to normal code-controlled operation. The holdback can only be engaged from the internal face.
This needs care. A fire door must be able to latch and hold closed in a fire event - engaging the holdback so it cannot latch compromises exactly that. If a fire door needs holding open, use a fire-rated door retainer or electromagnetic hold-open device designed for the purpose instead, and confirm requirements with your building certifier before specifying holdback on any fire door. Only the internal lever handle. This model includes the holdback button that can retract and hold the latch open; the CDL7100SC-HD does not. All other specs, fire ratings, and certifications are identical.

Additional Information
Holdback and fire doors: If this lock is installed on a fire door, the holdback must not be used to prop the door open - a fire door must self-latch to achieve its rated performance. Code change before installation: The factory default C13579 must be changed and tested before fitting - test with the door open. Salt spray rating context: The 240-hour C7 result is a laboratory test - continuous direct salt spray in a closed booth, far more aggressive than an installed lockset sees in the field. C7 indicates suitability under categories C2.3 (moderate/tropical) and C2.4 (industrial/marine, 100m-10km from coast). Finish degradation is excluded from warranty regardless of rating; a regular freshwater wipe-down keeps the satin chrome presentable, and the mechanism stays covered for the full 10 years.
Warranty
Carbine is a Davcor Group brand, and Davcor backs its mechanical digital locks with one of the longest warranties in the category: 10 years against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of original purchase. There are no electronics or batteries in this lock to shorten the cover - the whole product is warranted for the full term.
On a valid claim, Davcor will repair the lock, replace it, or supply an equivalent product. Keep your proof of purchase, and make the claim as soon as a defect becomes apparent.
What the warranty does not cover: fair wear and tear; damage caused by faulty installation, misuse, or modification of the product; and tarnishing or change to the finish from weather, salt, or chemical exposure. On coastal and exposed sites, regular cleaning of the finish is the practical answer - the lock mechanism itself remains covered.

You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. Carbine CDL7100-HBSC-HD - Deeper Questions
When a door genuinely lives in two modes. Loading docks during delivery windows, reception doors at opening time, staff corridors at shift change, storerooms during stocktake - anywhere the door would otherwise be propped with a wedge (which wrecks closers and hinges) or left swinging on a code every pass. If the door stays code-controlled all day, save the difference and take the CDL7100SC-HD - our holdback mode guide helps you decide.
Two different things. The lock body and latchset are assessed at -/120/30 on tested doorsets, and with the holdback released the door self-latches exactly as a fire door must. But the holdback's whole job is to hold the latch retracted - a fire door that cannot latch cannot perform in a fire event. So the lock may go on a fire door; the holdback function must never be engaged on one. Where a fire door needs holding open, a fire-rated retainer or electromagnetic hold-open (which releases on alarm) is the compliant tool. The code lives in mechanical slide switches behind the external pad, so it can only be read or reset with the lock accessible - normally with the door open. Since the inside lever is always free, you can still get out; getting back in without the code is a locksmith visit. Record the code somewhere secure the day it is set.
A competent DIYer with the right tools can: the instructions call for a chisel, a 25mm spade bit, an 8.5mm drill bit, and a Phillips head screwdriver, and the box includes the drilling template. The bevelled latch bolt must face the direction the door shuts - the instructions (PDF) diagram it. If the door is a fire door, installation must not compromise the fire-rated doorset - that is a job for a competent installer. In most cases, cleanly - the 58.75mm body covers the standard fixing holes both leave behind. Check the existing hole pattern against the supplied template before committing, and check your backset (how to measure) - this variant is 60mm.
No - this is a pure keypad lock: PIN entry outside, free lever inside, no key cylinder. No keys to cut, lose, or control; the discipline is guarding the code. If your application genuinely needs a key path, talk to us before ordering.
Gates yes - the gallery includes a narrow stile gate at Carrara, and the Gate Guard mounting box adapts the lock to gate frames. On a pool gate, the barrier must self-close and self-latch to meet barrier rules - which means the holdback must never be left engaged on a pool gate. How to Make a Claim
- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd (the place of purchase) in writing as soon as the defect becomes apparent - and no later than 14 days after the end of the applicable warranty period.
- Include in your written claim: a description of the defect, the date of supply, your contact details, and satisfactory proof of purchase.
- Do not return the product until a return authorisation number has been issued by Davcor. If return is required, the product must be in its original, complete, and saleable packaging.
- Davcor will test and assess the product. No claim is valid unless Davcor has confirmed a defect is present.
- Once a valid claim is confirmed, Davcor will - at its discretion - repair the defect, replace the product, or supply an equivalent product. If repair or replacement cannot be completed within a reasonable time, you may request a full refund, provided the product has been returned.
Delivery inspection: If you believe a product is defective or incorrectly supplied at the time of delivery, telephone notice must be given within 72 hours of receipt, with written notice (including full particulars) within 14 days of the invoice date.
