Carbine CEL2-3IN1 Digital Deadbolt with RFID and Key Override – Matte Black Kit with Batteries
The Carbine CEL2-3IN1-DBMBKIT is the deadbolt variant of the CEL2-3IN1 range, providing touchscreen PIN code, RFID/NFC access, and mechanical key override in a compact escutcheon format. It stores up to 100 user codes or RFID credentials in a shared pool, with no hub, gateway, or internet connection required.
The deadbolt is suited to secondary security on doors that already have a primary latch lock — such as an entry door with a tubular latch leverset. The deadbolt bolt throw provides a solid independent locking point separate from the latch. See: What is bolt throw and why does it matter? and Deadbolts and fire-rated doors — what you need to know.
Important: This deadbolt model is not fire rated. For fire door applications, use the CEL2-3IN1 fire-rated leverset models. A Satin Nickel variant (CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT) is also available. For the leverset version, see the CEL2-3IN1-SL8SNKIT. For Bluetooth deadbolt access, see the CEL2-BT-DBSNKIT (note: that model does not include RFID).
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
Available Finish Options
Finish does not affect function, compliance, or performance.
Key Features

- Stores up to 100 user codes or RFID credentials in a combined pool.
- Compatible with Mifare 13.56MHz RFID cards, FOBs, wristbands, stickers, and NFC-enabled smartphones.

- Guiding code (anti-shoulder-surf), double authorisation mode, vacation mode, auto-lock 10–99 seconds.
- Single-use PIN codes supported (4-digit, up to 4 sets) — ideal for one-time tradesperson access.
- IP54 rated exterior. ANSI Grade 2 certified.
- Fits standard 54mm or 38mm lockset hole (adapter collar included); door thickness 35–51mm; backset 60–70mm adjustable.
- Not fire rated — for fire door use, specify the CEL2-3IN1 fire-rated leverset models.
- Retrofit plates available (CEL2-DB-RP) for upgrading from original CEL-3IN1 deadbolt.
Access Methods
Works on 13.56MHz Mifare NFC (ISO14443 Type A) — RFID cards, FOBs, wristbands, stickers, and most NFC-enabled Android phones. Australian Mifare transit cards (Go card, Opal, Myki, SmartRider, MyWay, metroCard) are compatible. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are NOT compatible (ISO14443 Type B). Check your phone's NFC chip before installing — if incompatible, a Mifare RFID sticker adhered to the back of your phone is the recommended workaround. See: Carbine CEL RFID Application List (PDF) · Buyers Guide Ch03: Access Methods
Suitable Uses
- Secondary locking point on a door already fitted with a primary latch mechanism (leverset or knobset).
- Short-stay rental properties and investment properties requiring keyless access. See: Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi?
- Home entry doors where a deadbolt bolt throw is preferred for security. See: What is bolt throw and why does it matter?
- Applications requiring multiple user credentials without cloud access or a gateway device.
- Upgrade from original CEL-3IN1 deadbolt — retrofit plates available to cover old screw holes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this lock fire rated?
No. The CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt does not carry fire door certification. It is not suitable for installation on fire-rated door assemblies. For fire door applications, refer to the CEL2-3IN1 fire-rated leverset models in the product family table above. See also: Deadbolts and fire-rated doors and Buyers Guide Ch05: Fire Door Smart Locks.
Will my NFC phone work as an RFID credential?
Most NFC-enabled Android phones with Mifare support work. Test your specific device before installation. If incompatible, adhere a Mifare RFID sticker to the back of your phone as a workaround. Visa PayWave and Mastercard PayPass are not compatible. See: Carbine CEL RFID Application List (PDF).
My door has a 38mm bore hole — will this lock fit?
Yes. The CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt includes an adapter collar that enables installation into a 38mm bore hole. Remove the screw post and adapter collar before installation as shown in the installation instructions. See: Buyers Guide Ch02: Measuring Your Door.
I replaced an original CEL-3IN1 deadbolt — will the screw holes align?
The CEL2 escutcheon is a new lower-profile design and screw hole positions may not align with the original CEL. Retrofit plates (CEL2-DB-RP-SS or CEL2-DB-RP-MB) are available to cover old screw holes on the external face. The spec sheet for retrofit plates is available as a PDF download below.
What happens if I enter the wrong code too many times?
After 4 consecutive incorrect entries, the lock temporarily disables the keypad. If you forget the programming code, a factory reset is required — this erases all stored codes and resets the programming code to the factory default (12345678). See the troubleshooting guide for the factory reset procedure. See: Buyers Guide Ch12: Installation & Troubleshooting.
Additional Information
Unlike the leverset models, the CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt automatically detects its handing (which direction the bolt throws) after a factory reset. This process requires the lock to be fully installed on the door before performing the reset. Do not test handing off-door. If the bolt direction appears reversed after installation, perform a factory reset with the lock on the door and allow it to complete its self-calibration cycle.
The connecting cable between the exterior and interior modules must be routed correctly into the designated channel in the mounting plate. Incorrect routing is the most common installation issue — a pinched or misrouted cable can cause the keypad to be unresponsive, the battery cover to not fit correctly, or the Set button to be held down unintentionally. If the keypad stops responding after the battery cover is installed, the cable is almost certainly pinched. See the troubleshooting guide PDF for correct and incorrect cable routing photographs. See also: 3 common DIY smart lock installation mistakes.
Auto-lock is off by default on this deadbolt model. When enabled, the bolt will extend automatically after 10–99 seconds (you set the delay via the programming sequence). This is different to the leverset models, which have a 5–99 second range. If you rely on auto-locking, always test it after programming to confirm it is operating correctly.
The factory default programming code is 12345678. This code can unlock the lock as well as access programming mode. Change it to a private code immediately after installation. Do not share the programming code with tenants or regular users — create separate user codes for day-to-day access. See: The realities of electronic door locks.
A deadbolt does not include a latch — it cannot hold a door closed passively. It must be used alongside a separate latch mechanism (such as a leverset) for the door to function correctly. Confirm the door already has a working primary latch before specifying a deadbolt-only installation. See: Deadbolts, peepholes and fire-rated doors.
