Carbine CEL2-BT Digital Bluetooth Deadbolt with Key Override – Matte Black Kit with Batteries
The Carbine CEL2-BT-DBMBKIT is the Bluetooth-enabled deadbolt in the CEL2-BT range. It provides touchscreen PIN code entry, Bluetooth access via the Carbine Connect App (iOS and Android), and mechanical key override. It stores up to 200 user PIN codes and supports up to 10 Bluetooth users per lock — all managed through the app or directly on the keypad.
Important — RFID is not available on this model. Unlike the CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt, the BT deadbolt does not support RFID cards, FOBs, wristbands, stickers, or NFC phones. If RFID access is required, select the CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT instead. For Bluetooth and RFID together, use the CEL2-BT leverset models which support all three access types.
The Carbine Connect App does not require an internet connection or gateway — it communicates directly with the lock via Bluetooth. This means remote access (unlocking from outside Bluetooth range) is not possible. For short-stay rental automations requiring remote access, see: Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi?
A Satin Nickel variant (CEL2-BT-DBSNKIT) is also available.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
This lock does not support RFID cards, key FOBs, wristbands, stickers, or NFC-enabled smartphones. If you need RFID access, select the CEL2-3IN1-DBMBKIT (PIN + RFID + Key) or the CEL2-BT-SL8MBKIT leverset (PIN + RFID + Bluetooth + Key). See: Buyers Guide Ch03: Access Methods
Available Finish Options
Finish does not affect function, compliance, or performance.
Key Features
- Three access methods: touchscreen PIN code, Bluetooth via Carbine Connect App, and mechanical key override.
- Stores up to 200 user PIN codes (4–8 digits) and up to 10 Bluetooth users per lock.
- Carbine Connect App (iOS and Android) — manage users, set time-restricted access, view event log, and use auto-unlock.
- Three user access types via app: permanent, time period (limited duration), or scheduled (specific times of day).
- Auto-unlock feature — phone unlocks the door automatically within Bluetooth range without opening the app (GPS-dependent; optional).
- Event log records all access activity — viewable in the app when connected to the lock.
- Carbine Connect App has completed independent penetration testing with a “Low Risk” rating.
- Guiding code, single-use PIN codes, vacation mode, double authorisation, auto-lock 10–900 seconds.
- ANSI Grade 2: mechanical 150,000 cycles, electronic 250,000 cycles, salt spray 240 hours. (The deadbolt achieves 150k mechanical / 75k electronic.)
- IP54 rated exterior. Fits 54mm or 38mm bore; door 35–51mm; backset 60–70mm adjustable.
- RFID not supported on this model. Not fire rated.
The Carbine Connect App (iOS and Android) pairs to the lock by scanning a QR code inside the battery compartment. Once paired, the app owner can add up to 10 Bluetooth users by sharing access via QR code, SMS, or email. Users can be set with permanent, time-limited, or scheduled access. The event log shows all entry activity. The auto-unlock feature automatically opens the lock as you approach, using your phone’s GPS and Bluetooth — enable this only in appropriate contexts. The app communicates via Bluetooth only — it does not connect to the internet or require a gateway. You must be within Bluetooth range (approx. 10 metres) to control the lock via app. See: Buyers Guide Ch08: Smart Lock Gateway Comparison
Access Methods
Suitable Uses
- Secondary deadbolt on a door with an existing primary latch, where Bluetooth app management is preferred over RFID credentials.
- Investment properties and short-stay rentals where the host wants app-based user management (share access by QR code or app invitation) without needing RFID cards. See: Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi?
- Residential entry where the occupant wants auto-unlock (phone unlocks the door as they approach).
- Applications where a cloud-free, no-gateway Bluetooth solution is preferred. See: Buyers Guide Ch08: Gateway Comparison

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I unlock this lock remotely from anywhere?
No. The Carbine Connect App communicates with the lock via Bluetooth only. You must be within approximately 10 metres of the lock to control it via the app. There is no cloud connection, gateway, or internet integration. For remote access (e.g. letting in a tradesperson while you are away), you would need to share a PIN code in advance or choose a lock that supports remote access via a gateway. See: Buyers Guide Ch08: Gateway Comparison and Airbnb smart locks — do you need WiFi?
Why doesn’t this deadbolt support RFID when the leverset BT models do?
This is a hardware design difference between the deadbolt and leverset variants of the CEL2-BT range. The BT leverset models (CEL2-BT-SL8SNKIT / SL8MBKIT) support PIN, RFID, Bluetooth, and key. The BT deadbolt models support PIN, Bluetooth, and key only. If you need RFID on a deadbolt, use the CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT (no Bluetooth).
How do I add Bluetooth users to this lock?
Pair the lock to the Carbine Connect App by scanning the QR code inside the battery compartment. Once the Owner account is set up, additional users can be invited by sharing a QR code, SMS, or email via the app. Users can be assigned permanent, time-limited, or scheduled access. Up to 10 Bluetooth users can be active per lock. You must be within Bluetooth range to add or modify users.
Is this lock fire rated?
No. The CEL2-BT deadbolt does not carry fire door certification and is not suitable for fire-rated door assemblies. For fire door applications, use the CEL2-3IN1 or CEL2-BT fire-rated leverset models. See: Buyers Guide Ch05: Fire Door Smart Locks
My door has a 38mm bore hole — will this lock fit?
Yes. An adapter collar is included for 38mm bore hole installation. Remove the screw post and adapter collar from the assembly before fitting, as shown in the installation instructions. See: Buyers Guide Ch02: Measuring Your Door
Additional Information
The QR code in the battery compartment is the only way to pair a new device to the lock. If it is removed or damaged, the lock must be factory reset and the QR code cannot be regenerated — pairing will no longer be possible via the app. Take a photo of the QR code immediately after installation and keep it in a safe place. For commercial or short-stay rental applications, Carbine recommends removing the QR code label from the lock (after photographing it) to prevent an unauthorised person from resetting the lock and pairing it to their own app.
The CEL2-BT deadbolt automatically detects its handing (the direction the bolt throws) after a factory reset, but the lock must be fully installed on the door for this to work correctly. Do not test handing off the door. If the bolt behaviour is reversed after installation, perform a factory reset with the lock on the door and allow the self-calibration cycle to complete.
The cable connecting the exterior and interior modules must be seated correctly in the designated channel of the mounting plate. Incorrect routing — the most common installation error — results in a pinched cable that can cause an unresponsive keypad, a battery cover that won't close, or the Set button being held down permanently. If the keypad stops responding after the battery cover is installed, suspect the cable first. See: 3 common DIY smart lock installation mistakes
The auto-unlock feature uses your phone’s GPS and Bluetooth to automatically unlock the lock as you approach. It requires Location permission set to “Always” (iOS) or “All the time” (Android) and the app running in the background. GPS accuracy and phone settings can affect reliability. The lock uses a 200-metre departure threshold and a 10-metre Bluetooth activation range. Test thoroughly before relying on it. Auto-unlock is disabled by default.
