The Carbine CEL2-BT Digital Bluetooth Deadbolt (CEL2-BT-DBSNKIT) is the Bluetooth-enabled deadbolt in Carbine's CEL2 range. It combines touchscreen PIN code entry, Bluetooth access through the Carbine Connect App, and a mechanical key override for guaranteed backup entry. It stores up to 200 user PIN codes and pairs with up to 10 Bluetooth users per lock, all managed on the keypad or in the app.
Unlike the CEL2-3IN1 deadbolt, the Bluetooth deadbolt does not read RFID cards, fobs, wristbands, stickers or NFC phones. If RFID access is what you need, the CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT (PIN + RFID + key, same Satin Nickel finish) is the deadbolt to choose; for Bluetooth and RFID together, the CEL2-BT leverset supports all three.
The Carbine Connect App works over Bluetooth only - there is no gateway, hub or internet connection, so the lock cannot be operated from outside Bluetooth range. For short-stay rental automations that need remote access, see Airbnb smart locks - do you really need WiFi? This deadbolt is also available in a Matte Black finish (CEL2-BT-DBMBKIT), and sits within the wider Carbine CEL & CDL digital lock range.
Usually ships same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excludes weekends and Queensland public holidays).
This lock does not support RFID cards, key fobs, wristbands, stickers or NFC-enabled smartphones. If RFID access is required, choose the CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT (PIN + RFID + key, Satin Nickel). For RFID + Bluetooth + PIN together, choose a CEL2-BT leverset. See Buyer's Guide Ch03: RFID access methods.
Available Finish Options
Finish selection does not affect functionality, compliance, or performance.

Suitable Uses
- A secondary deadbolt on a door with an existing primary latch, where Bluetooth app management is preferred over RFID credentials. See secondary locks and the one-penetration principle.
- Investment properties and short-stay rentals where the host wants app-based user management - sharing access by QR code or app invitation - without needing RFID cards. See Airbnb smart locks - do you really need WiFi?
- Residential entry where the occupant wants auto-unlock (the phone unlocks the door as they approach). See Carbine Connect: auto-unlock.
- Applications where a cloud-free, no-gateway Bluetooth solution is preferred. See Buyer's Guide Ch08: what a gateway does.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The Carbine Connect App communicates via Bluetooth only, so you must be within roughly 10 metres of the lock to control it from the app. There is no cloud connection, gateway or internet integration. To let someone in while you are away, share a PIN code in advance, or choose a lock that supports remote access via a gateway. See Carbine Connect: no remote access explained · Buyer's Guide Ch08: what a gateway does.
It is a hardware difference between the deadbolt and leverset variants of the CEL2-BT range. The Bluetooth leverset models support PIN, RFID, Bluetooth and key; the Bluetooth deadbolt supports PIN, Bluetooth and key only. If you need RFID on a deadbolt, use the CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT (PIN + RFID + key, no Bluetooth). See Buyer's Guide Ch03: RFID access methods.
Pair the lock to the Carbine Connect App by scanning the QR code inside the battery compartment. Once the owner account is set up, add users by sharing a QR code, SMS or email invitation through the app, and assign each one permanent, time-limited or scheduled access. Up to 10 Bluetooth users can be active per lock, and you must be within Bluetooth range to add or change them. See Carbine Connect: user management.
No. The CEL2-BT deadbolt does not carry fire door certification and is not suitable for fire-rated door assemblies. For fire door applications, use a CEL2-3IN1 or CEL2-BT fire-rated leverset. See Buyer's Guide Ch05: fire door smart locks.
Yes. An adapter collar is included for 38mm bore hole installation. Remove the screw post and adapter collar from the assembly before fitting, as shown in the installation instructions. See Buyer's Guide Ch02: door preparation.
Additional Information
The QR code in the battery compartment is the only way to pair a new device to the lock. If it is removed or damaged, pairing is no longer possible from the app. Photograph it immediately after installation and keep it somewhere safe. For commercial or short-stay rental use, Carbine recommends removing the QR code label from the lock after photographing it, to prevent unauthorised re-pairing. See Carbine Connect: the security audit.
The CEL2-BT deadbolt automatically detects its handing (the direction the bolt throws) after a factory reset, but the lock must be fully installed on the door for this to work. Do not test handing off the door. If the bolt behaviour is reversed after installation, perform a factory reset with the lock on the door and let the self-calibration cycle complete. See understanding door handing in Australia.
The cable connecting the exterior and interior modules must sit correctly in the designated channel of the mounting plate. Incorrect routing pinches the cable and can leave the keypad unresponsive, the battery cover unable to close, or the Set button held down permanently. If the keypad stops responding once the battery cover is installed, suspect the cable first. See three common DIY smart lock installation mistakes.
Auto-unlock uses GPS and Bluetooth to unlock the door as you approach. It needs Location permission set to "Always" (iOS) or "All the time" (Android) with the app running in the background, and it uses a 200-metre departure threshold and a roughly 10-metre Bluetooth activation range; GPS accuracy and phone settings affect reliability, so test it thoroughly before relying on it (it is disabled by default). When you change phones, the app includes a transfer-to-a-new-phone process so you can move your access across. See Carbine Connect: auto-unlock.

Access & Credentials
Three: a touchscreen PIN code, the Carbine Connect app over Bluetooth, and a mechanical key. The lock holds up to 200 user PIN codes (4-8 digits) and up to 10 Bluetooth users. It does not read RFID cards, fobs or NFC phones - that is the deadbolt's one deliberate limit versus the CEL2-3IN1 RFID deadbolt. See Buyer's Guide Ch03: PIN access.
No. RFID is a hardware feature the Bluetooth deadbolt does not have, and it cannot be added afterwards. If RFID matters, choose the CEL2-3IN1-DBSNKIT deadbolt (PIN + RFID + key), or for RFID and Bluetooth together, a CEL2-BT leverset. See Buyer's Guide Ch03: RFID access methods.
Up to 200 user codes of 4-8 digits. A guiding code lets you type random digits before or after your real PIN so anyone watching cannot read your code from the screen - useful for shared entrances and short-stay rentals. Single-use codes and vacation mode (which disables all user codes) are also supported.
Remote Access & the Carbine Connect App
No. Carbine Connect is Bluetooth only - there is no gateway, hub or cloud - so you must be within about 10 metres of the lock to operate it or change users. To let a visitor in remotely, issue a PIN code in advance. If remote unlocking is essential, you need a gateway-capable smart lock on a different platform. See Carbine Connect: no remote access explained · Buyer's Guide Ch08: gateway comparison.
Download Carbine Connect on iOS or Android, then pair by scanning the QR code inside the battery compartment - this creates the owner account. Invite users via QR code, SMS or email in the app, and give each one permanent, time-limited or scheduled access. Up to 10 Bluetooth users can be active, and you must be within Bluetooth range to add or change them. See Carbine Connect: user management · the three app user roles.
Auto-unlock uses GPS and Bluetooth to unlock the door as you arrive. It needs Location set to "Always" with the app in the background, and uses a 200-metre departure threshold and a roughly 10-metre Bluetooth activation range. Because it relies on GPS and phone settings, treat it as a convenience feature and test it before you depend on it - it is off by default. See Carbine Connect: auto-unlock.
The Carbine Connect app has been independently penetration-tested and rated "Low Risk". Because the lock has no internet connection, its attack surface is limited to Bluetooth range. See the Carbine Connect security audit.
Fit, Installation & Handing
It suits doors 35-51mm thick with a 54mm bore hole (or 38mm using the included adapter collar) and an adjustable 60-70mm backset. A 127mm backset is not supported. Measure your door before ordering. See Buyer's Guide Ch02: measuring your door · how to measure your backset.
No. The deadbolt auto-detects its handing after a factory reset, provided it is already installed on the door. Do not test handing off the door. If the bolt runs the wrong way after fitting, reset it on the door and let the self-calibration cycle finish. See understanding door handing in Australia.
The CEL2 generation uses a different fixing pattern to the original CEL-3IN1, so old screw holes may show. Carbine makes retrofit plates for exactly this - CEL2-DB-RP-SS (satin steel) or CEL2-DB-RP-MB (matte black) cover the external face. See the retrofit plate spec sheet in PDF Downloads.
Power, Safety & Troubleshooting
4 x AA alkaline batteries (Duracell Procell recommended) - not lithium or rechargeable, which can damage the lock and void warranty. A low-battery warning sounds and shows on the LED before the batteries are exhausted, and the mechanical key always opens the door regardless of battery state. See how long digital door locks last.
Almost always a pinched connecting cable. The cable between the exterior and interior modules must sit in its channel in the mounting plate; if it is trapped it can leave the keypad dead, the Set button held down, or the cover unable to close. Re-seat the cable before anything else. See three common DIY smart lock installation mistakes · the CEL2 troubleshooting guide (PDF).
No - the CEL2-BT deadbolt is not fire-rated. Fire doors need a certified fire-rated lock; in this range that is a CEL2-3IN1 or CEL2-BT fire-rated leverset. See Buyer's Guide Ch05: fire door smart locks.
The external module is IP54-rated for everyday outdoor exposure, and the finish is salt spray tested to 240 hours (a laboratory cabinet test, not a warranty for coastal service). The internal module houses the battery compartment and is for interior use only. For a fully exposed, rain-facing position, shelter helps. See Buyer's Guide Ch02: screen clearance.
Suitability
Yes, where you want app-based user management without RFID cards - issue a time-limited or scheduled PIN, or a Bluetooth invitation, for each guest. Remember there is no remote access, so codes are set on site or shared ahead of a stay. For automations that need remote control, a gateway platform is the better fit. See Airbnb smart locks - do you really need WiFi?
A deadbolt adds a bolt as a secondary lock alongside an existing latch or handle - it does not retract a latch, so the door still needs a separate way to stay closed. A leverset replaces the handle and latches the door itself. If you want one lock that does both jobs, look at a CEL2-BT leverset; if you are adding security to a door that already latches, this deadbolt is the simpler fit. See secondary locks and the one-penetration principle.
